Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The FBI Arrives

Chuck ignored his secretary Helen's suggestion.

Regardless of beauty, he couldn't possibly accept the girl his secretary wanted to introduce him to.

After all, with his unique situation, no normal woman could stand him.

The movie depictions of silent, loving, and devoted partners are just fantasies.

The reality is, few women can stand a partner so quiet, reserved, and unapproachable. Once the romantic veneer is stripped away, the reality becomes tedious and endlessly frustrating.

Helen was a decent secretary.

Like Sheldon, who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder and a need for routine, Chuck also values stability and doesn't want to be disrupted by something like this.

Alex's situation is unique...it's something you only encounter once in a lifetime.

Feeling a little irritated, he pulled out his phone and sent a text message. After a few seconds, the screen went dark, revealing a chess board.

Chuck moved the mouse and began playing. His restless mood slowly calmed as his mind engaged.

However, the mood swings inherent to his severe autism couldn't be completely eliminated.

Chuck quietly decided to go to the Andersons' farm tomorrow, two days before school started, to blow off some steam.

While he'd shot guns at his sister's house in Texas, thanks to Hayley's arrangements, the family was, after all, a normal household. Even for Texans, they only had ordinary firearms, which made Chuck, who preferred high-powered weapons, feel less than satisfied.

If he didn't vent his frustrations soon, he feared he might lose his composure once he entered the intensity of university life, something he couldn't accept and desperately wanted to avoid.

Just as Chuck was playing chess and thinking about his plans for the next two days, the door opened. Secretary Helen's voice, deliberately quiet, was filled with surprise, "Jane, you're here so early!"

Chuck frowned and glanced out. Through the glass window, he saw a blonde woman with a youthful face but a uniquely mature presence. Her features were delicate, and her smile was bright.

The sight of her startled him.

Because not long ago, he had said to himself, "He understands Vision's joy!"

Previously, there was Professor Alicia Harper, bearing the face of one of Vision's sources of joy, and now, suddenly, another face, also one of Vision's sources of joy, had appeared.

Was this the niece that Secretary Helen was about to introduce him to?

Chuck felt a sense of wonder, but his strong rationality quickly suppressed the strange feeling.

So, he stood up and walked out.

"Dr. Wolfe, let me introduce you. This is my niece, Jane Banner. Jane, this is my boss, Dr. Chuck Wolfe."

Seeing Chuck come out, Secretary Helen was stunned at first, then overjoyed and began to introduce them.

She figured that given Chuck's personality, he had already expressed his reluctance to be introduced, so even if her niece showed up, Chuck would definitely stay inside and not come out to see her.

But now, Chuck came out immediately after seeing her niece. How unexpected!

But looking at her niece's charming face and impressive figure, she felt a sense of satisfaction.

Even someone like her boss couldn't resist her niece's appeal.

This was wonderful!

In her eyes, despite his quiet nature and obsessive-compulsive disorder, her boss, Chuck, was not only a genius but also a kindhearted person.

Even hardworking people like the Andersons on the farm, he quietly offered his complete assistance.

She had witnessed this firsthand.

Of course, there had been cases where seemingly deserving individuals who needed help hadn't received such assistance, and she couldn't help but ask why.

The boss simply said, "Tax returns don't lie."

Her heart was instantly at ease.

Indeed, many bad people in this world are skilled in disguise, able to deceive ordinary people like her, but how could they possibly deceive a genius like her boss?

With such a talented young man so close to her, and her niece so outstanding, she naturally wanted to help them connect.

However, knowing Chuck's character, she could suggest it once, but if she continued to pester him after he refused, it would definitely not end well.

But now, she had an unexpected surprise.

"Hi."

Jane Banner smiled at Chuck.

She had heard her aunt talk about Chuck many times, and now that she had met him, he was very close to what she had imagined.

"FBI?"

Chuck looked at Jane and asked in a confident tone.

"Aunt, you told him?"

Jane looked at Helen in surprise.

"Told him what?"

Helen was confused: "What FBI?"

"Didn't you tell him?"

Jane narrowed her eyes and looked at Chuck warily: "How did you know I was with the FBI?"

"Everything about your posture and mannerisms shows that you are a rookie FBI agent who has just completed training."

Chuck took a business card from his pocket and handed it over: "If you encounter any difficult cases in the future, you can call me."

"Forensic Accountant?"

Jane took the business card and looked at it. Seeing the consulting detective listing, she felt a little relieved.

Chuck nodded at her, turned back to the inner office and closed the door.

"That's just how he is."

Helen couldn't help but explain when she saw her niece staring blankly at Chuck's departing figure, business card in hand. Then she turned her attention to the real issue: "Why did you become an FBI agent?"

"I just recently completed my training at Quantico and became a full-fledged FBI agent. I haven't had time to tell you yet."

Jane smiled, "I just came to see you before I got my assignment. Aunt, have you really heard nothing?"

"Of course I didn't know!"

Helen said indignantly. "You could have any good job, why did you choose to be an FBI agent?"

In her eyes, such a job was too dangerous and had a questionable reputation.

Just like before, her first reaction after learning about it was to explain to her boss, Chuck, that she really just wanted to introduce her beautiful niece to him, nothing more.

Because in the eyes of many people, including her, the image of the FBI kicking down doors and sending agents to investigate others has long been ingrained in people's minds, promoted by movies and TV shows.

Boss Chuck might not be afraid of the FBI, but he definitely didn't want to be treated like that.

"So he really could tell at first sight that I was a new FBI agent?"

Jane looked through the glass at Chuck, who was sitting at his desk in the inner room playing on the computer, her eyes full of curiosity.

A detective's observation skills are excellent, but can they really be this good?

Helen asked a few more questions, then asked her niece to go to her house to rest first, and then she would have a good chat with her after work.

"Dr. Wolfe, I really didn't know Jane became an FBI agent."

After sending her niece away, Helen knocked on the door and poked her head in to explain to Chuck.

"I know."

Chuck nodded, his eyes still fixed on the computer, playing chess.

High-intensity intellectual competition is a kind of relaxation and entertainment for him.

Helen breathed a sigh of relief and was about to close the door, but when she thought of something, she couldn't help but test it: "Why did you give Jane a business card?"
