Chapter 97 - Chapter 91: A Nuclear Bomb Explodes Over New York

"Oh my God, what is that?!"

In bustling Manhattan, New York, during the daytime, people looked up in terror, as if a gate connecting to a monster World had opened. Countless alien space pirates swarmed down like sharks spotting prey.

The massive Leviathan, a biological weapon over a hundred meters long carrying combat units, cast a large, terrifying shadow.

"Help! Monsters! So many monsters!"

"Are they aliens? Aliens are invading Earth! Run!"

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Dark blue laser weapons ruthlessly fired at the crowds on the ground.

"Kill them all! Conquer this Planet for My Lord Sanos!"

The Chitauri's cold, low voices rang out.

Without warning, a massacre began in the bustling city. This was what they were best at. Under Thanos's leadership, as one of the two vanguard units of the Black Order, they had slaughtered thousands of Planets.

In their view, Earth would be no exception.

Small airships carrying Chitauri combat teams roared overhead in groups, initiating a massive disaster.

Smoke filled the air, debris flew everywhere, and screams and wails rose and fell.

"Jarvis, give this Bambi who illegally intruded into my company a taste of their own medicine."

In the sky, Iron Man roared in, giving an angry command. Below Stark Tower, windows suddenly shattered, and dozens of robots, similar in appearance to Iron Man, flew out.

On the rooftop, the Iron Legion, which Stark had worked day and night to create during this period, had begun to take shape, flying in with fiery jets.

"Don't move. You are all surrounded by me alone."

In the air from all directions, dozens of robots raised their hands, lighting up high-power palm cannons, aiming at Loki, who wore a horned helmet, and Black Dwarf, who carried a heavy pickaxe.

Several of them landed on the ground and rushed towards the device.

"Shut it down, Jarvis. I hope the citizens of New York won't think I caused this incident this time."

Stark muttered to himself.

There were all kinds of people in the World. Many conspiracy theories online suggested that he refused to hand over his Iron Man Suit and had even piloted it to the Middle East, secretly planning to establish an independent nation, like President Tony Stark.

With such absurd ideas, it wasn't impossible for them to label him a traitor to Earth.

"Don't be nervous."

Holding the Mind Stone and raising his hands, Loki smiled faintly, arrogantly showing no intention of stopping them: "The wormhole has opened, and everything is futile. Hundreds of thousands of Chitauri troops are continuously entering Earth."

"I think you should consider your future life… perhaps promptly paying respects to the future ruler of Earth?"

He offered a suggestion, advising Stark to be smart.

Sizzle! Sizzle!

Several robots approached the device, which used the Tesseract as its energy center, intending to dismantle it, but were blocked by a faint blue energy shield. They fired beam cannons, attempting to break through the energy shield and destroy the device, but were bounced back.

"Stark, how are things on your end?"

In the city, Captain America led the Avengers members in combat against the Chitauri, desperately trying to contain them in this area.

His blue, white, and red uniform was covered by a black symbiote suit. He constantly threw his shield, which defied the laws of physics, killing armed Chitauri.

"Get out of here, the streets are my domain."

Luke Cage, with his bulletproof skin, withstood several laser attacks, picked up a nearby motorcycle, and threw it, smashing a squad of Chitauri into a pulp.

Spider-Man Peter Parker, who was usually a friendly neighbor, also stopped holding back. He shot a web, pulling an airship from the sky, crashing it heavily to the ground where it exploded. He looked at the dead Chitauri's skull-like face and felt a chill under his mask.

"I guarantee your Planet's cosmetics industry must be very depressed."

This was even uglier and more terrifying than Dr. Lizard, whom he had dealt with a few months ago.

"It's a bit tough, Rogers. Do you know how to break through an infinite energy shield with almost no upper limit on its strength?"

Hearing the question, Stark flew to hover over his own building, his face grim as he replied. Jarvis had just controlled several Iron Man robots to try various attacks, and the energy waves from the triggered counterattacks had almost shaken the robots apart.

"That doesn't sound like good news."

Captain America punched away an incoming Chitauri, looking worriedly at the endless space pirates like locusts pouring out of the wormhole in the sky.

If the wormhole couldn't be closed, who knew how many high-tech troops this army had? With a continuous influx, it was only a matter of time before this country fell, and even the entire World wouldn't last much longer.

"An alien invasion has occurred in Manhattan. Should we use him?"

"Didn't S.H.I.E.L.D. assemble a team of super-powered individuals?"

Behind a dark screen, there was low discussion among high-ranking U.S. Congress officials.

"You expect a few freaks to stop a brutal alien army?" someone scoffed.

"'He' isn't stable. What if he comes into contact with the outside World, discovers the abnormality of his life, and turns against us? That would be another disaster then," a worried voice said.

They had tried every method to brainwash that person, but that person's mental resistance was too strong. Repeated indoctrination and brainwashing had no effect.

"First, let that freak team try. If it doesn't work, use a nuclear bomb!"

Troop deployment takes time. They didn't expect a nuclear bomb to solve an alien army of unknown size, but perhaps a nuclear bomb could close the wormhole.

Although they weren't sure, they could try.

"Enough. I've seen enough of your futile actions. Since you don't intend to surrender, then die."

On the rooftop of Stark Tower, seeing Stark's uncooperativeness, Loki raised the Mind Stone and fired an energy ray at Stark in mid-air.

"Surrender to you?"

Iron Man dodged the attack and ordered the Iron Legion to take down Loki. He couldn't think of a solution for now, but perhaps Loki, who created this wormhole device, might have a way.

"Bambi, I've seen the video of your last visit to Earth. Perhaps your divine father has been too lenient with you. Your Uncle Stark doesn't mind teaching you a lesson for him."

He led the Iron Legion to attack.

"Foolish, lowly Midgardian, I have lived for over a thousand years!"

Mentioning Odin, this sentence completely enraged Loki. He ordered the Chitauri to call some airship units to deal with Stark.

He jumped onto one of them, and the two sides engaged in a fierce battle in the sky.

"Get out of here, I'm going to have some fun."

Black Dwarf looked disdainfully at what he considered a childish battle, jumped onto an airship, and gave a command. He wanted to find that bug who had beaten him away last time and smash him into a pulp!

"I suddenly thought of a solution."

On the public channel of the headset, on the streets of New York, Luke Cage smashed a Chitauri's head with his fist, then suddenly said.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

"What solution?"

Dodging attacks and exchanging fire with Loki in the air, Stark asked.

He now somewhat regretted making too few of the first experimental Iron Legion. He and his Iron Legion were almost overwhelmed by the human wave tactic.

"Blow up Stark Tower."

"What did you say?"

Under his faceplate, his eyes bulged. Make him blow up his own building?

"That device is maintaining the wormhole by pointing upwards. If it tilts and loses support, will the wormhole dissipate?"

Captain America, who was fighting the incoming Black Dwarf on the street, heard this and said, "Perhaps… it's worth a try."

He didn't understand much about this technology, but there was no other way now.

"It's not your building, so you don't feel the pain."

Stark was speechless and ignored these two uncultured guys, sarcastically saying, "Oh, right, I forgot you don't have buildings either."

With the energy shield protection, even if the device tilted, with the spatial coordinates fixed, a new wormhole would still be generated.

Moreover, the energy beam emitted by the Tesseract, during the tilting process, would sweep across the city like a laser cutting ray!

The Chitauri army appeared continuously. At first, Captain America and the others could hold on, but as their numbers grew, with tens of thousands of Chitauri combat units pouring into New York, they gradually faltered.

It looked like the alien army was about to spread to other parts of the city.

"Can't wait any longer. Launch the nuclear bomb."

The United States Government high command decided to launch a nuclear bomb after discussion.

The Space Agency had studied the Tesseract; its interior was actually a gem, which was the true energy source.

That gem was extremely difficult to destroy and could survive a nuclear explosion.

Hill, the acting Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., was also listening in on this online meeting. She tried her best to stop it, but unfortunately, she couldn't change the outcome. She immediately notified them.

"Avengers, listen up. The government wants to solve the problem with a nuclear bomb. A nuclear bomb is heading your way."

The plane carrying the nuclear bomb flew over New York and launched it. A several-meter-long, thick nuclear bomb with a white tail trailing behind it headed towards Manhattan.

"A nuclear bomb? Are those people crazy?"

Stark was utterly astonished, suspecting he was hallucinating. Could his own building not escape this disaster?

"That's really their style."

Hawkeye and Black Widow, who were dealing with enemies with their pistols and bows, raised an eyebrow upon hearing this news, not very surprised.

"Where?"

Captain America, who had suppressed Black Dwarf with his combat skills, disregarded everything else and urgently asked.

But Hill didn't know and couldn't answer.

He shot black symbiote tentacles, intending to go to a high place to check.

"Bug, where are you going!"

But he was held back by Black Dwarf's heavy pickaxe attacks.

"It's over. Is the World going to end?"

Luke Cage and Spider-Man were also held back by a large number of Chitauri.

Among the Avengers, Stark had the strongest mobility, but his Iron Legion was almost wiped out by the swarm of airships. If not for the Vibranium armor on his body, he would have collapsed long ago.

"Is it too late to call the King now?"

Luke Cage suggested loudly. Although he had been defeated and captured by Ron, and was very displeased with Ron, at this moment, he desperately wished the King of Wakanda was here.

"I'm afraid it's too late."

In the Helicarrier, S.H.I.E.L.D. members used various methods to track the nuclear bomb's trajectory.

They finally found it, but Hill stared blankly at the screen. The S.H.I.E.L.D. members looked despairing, holding their breath, not daring to look at the impending tragedy.

The radar showed that the nuclear bomb was dozens of meters from the city, and the Avengers were all too far away to make it in time.

"How can they do this? We are still here, and there are many civilians who couldn't leave in time!" Spider-Man, the friendly neighbor, angrily and unfairly said, sticking a lamppost with his web and throwing away several rushing enemies.

The incident happened too suddenly for people to evacuate, and many were hiding in nearby buildings and structures.

"Those civilians will be said to have died in the alien invasion. Anyway, there will be no survivors under a nuclear bomb, including you and me."

Luke Cage's face was ashen. He didn't think he could withstand a nuclear bomb.

"Fury, I'm afraid I can't create the miracle you want." Captain America broke free from Black Dwarf's obstruction with a few punches and kicks, climbed a tall building with black webs, but seeing the nuclear bomb about to collide with the buildings on the edge of the district in the distance, he fell silent.

"Jarvis, call Potts." Stark was being tossed around by the airship's laser cannons. He struggled to order the call to Pepper.

He wasn't sure if his Vibranium armor could withstand a nuclear bomb.

Frightened crowds trembled, hiding in buildings and praying, while S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers fell into despair.

Whoosh!

A figure suddenly flew in at extreme speed, trailing a sonic boom cloud, and with one hand, supported the nuclear bomb, easily lifting it upwards.

Ron held the nuclear bomb with one hand and Audreyf in his arms with the other.

"I can fly myself."

Audreyf, clad in armor, frowned and struggled slightly while being held. She was no longer as reactive as she was initially with physical contact with Ron, having grown somewhat accustomed to it.

"You fly too slowly. By the time you arrived here, everything would have been too late."

He said, having deliberately chosen to leave at a leisurely pace.

"Ron is here! He intercepted the nuclear bomb!"

Seeing him from afar, Captain America let out a sigh of relief. He had forgotten about his leg being crippled in Wakanda at this moment.

"That's great!"

Inside S.H.I.E.L.D., including Hill and others, there was an unbelievable surge of joy and excited shouts.

"What, Ron is here?"

Stark was surprised. Could this mean the end of the matter?

"Ron is here?"

Hearing Stark's voice under his mask, Loki on the airship tensed up. His eyes uncontrollably showed fright and nervousness. He tightly clutched the Mind Stone and thought of Thanos, only then regaining a little confidence.

"Hide behind me."

Releasing Audreyf, Ron looked at the wormhole in the sky and reminded her. Holding the nuclear bomb with one hand, he moved his arm slightly like throwing a javelin. The several-ton nuclear bomb was rapidly thrown, breaking the sound barrier, and heading straight for the wormhole in the sky.

In the original plot, Black Widow, alerted by Selvig, closed the wormhole with the Mind Stone, while Stark carried the nuclear bomb and threw it to the other side, and New York City was not affected.

Now, the wormhole hadn't closed yet, but he was too lazy to bother. Holding this nuclear bomb was too foolish; he didn't want to hold it for too long.

"Oh no! Find cover quickly! The nuclear explosion is coming!"

The nuclear bomb thrown by Ron was too fast. Captain America only had time to shout a warning. He quickly swung into a building with his black tentacles to take cover.

"Stay away from Stark Tower!"

"What? Wasn't the nuclear bomb intercepted?"

The Avengers were startled and quickly took cover as well.

The nuclear bomb flew into the wormhole, instantly reaching the other end of the starry sky, colliding with the Chitauri mothership, which was several miles in size. An unimaginable burst of light and heat erupted!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

It was as if a giant Sun had risen and rapidly expanded.

The explosive energy swept and consumed everything.
