I opened my eyes slowly. My wrists burned where the cuffs had been. The metal was gone, but the sting stayed like a live wire under my skin. My head felt thick and fuzzy. When I tried to stand, a sharp shock ran through me and I had to sink back down.
A soft voice came from beside me. "Careful, Lia."
I turned. Rick was there, close enough that I could see the tired circles under his eyes.
His face was warm, but heavy ā like he carried a weight he didn't want to show.
Behind him Dorian, Eric, and Dean stood in a line, close together, their faces tight. The room felt small with them in it. The air hung heavy between us.
The mate bond pulsed in my chest. It was hot and heavy, pulling me toward them even though I was still scared and still angry. I didn't know why I wanted them and hated them at the same time, but the pull was real. I couldn't deny it.
