Chapter 23 - Can't Stop Thinking

"I'm happy to announce that Pratt Incorporated is now officially in partnership with Crestview Group. In addition to that, the company has come under new management. From this moment forward, I will be taking over as CEO of the company, for expansion, and innovation. My goal is to increase profits by at least eighty percent in the remaining quarter of the year."

"How do you plan on achieving this? Your family's company hasn't made a profit higher than ten percent for several years." A reporter asked and stepped forward, but was stopped by security.

"I know I can do this because I have done something similar before. If you check the reports I will release shortly to the media, the last time this company recorded a high profit percentage of twenty five percent, it was when I was CFO, handling all financial matters, and project assignments. I'm here again to handle all forms of mismanagement, and improve resource allocation. The results will speak for themselves." Eliza responded.

"Using this opportunity, a list of names will be released right after this, containing the other companies that made it to the short list for partnership. The final choices will be made by the CEO at the official opening ceremony of the Crestview Group's new headquarters in two weeks. Invitations will be sent out shortly." Gaya said, then Eliza took over.

More questions were thrown at Eliza about business, then one reporter went personal.

"Is it true you were disowned by your family?"

After that, all the questions being yelled were personal.

"Is your husband really a retard?"

"Did you sleep with an executive to get the partnership?"

"You were fired from here previously, how did you convince your family to take you back?"

"Are you pregnant?"

"Did you divorce your pauper husband?"

"Enough questions, especially since you're all more interested in gossip instead of business inquiries. That will be all." She turned and returned inside after watching Gaya and her team leave.

"You must revoke your statement this instant!" Henry Pratt snapped as soon as she returned to the top floor where they all were waiting after watching the press conference.

"You and I both know that ship has sailed, and is not returning to shore for a damn long time. So make sure Francis clears out his desk by the time I'm done with staff meetings, else, I'll have security throw him out of my office. I'm sure you want to avoid that kind of humiliation. Don't worry, the board will come up with a fancy new title for him, and you can keep your precious grandkids closer together." She replied dismissively.

"You cannot do this! You cannot take over my company like this. I refuse to accept it."

"There's nothing you can do, grandfather. And if you try to cause a ruckus now, it will only affect the company. How do you think it will look to others that you ruined a highly coveted partnership with such a big company because of your ego?" She asked with a tsk.

"Maybe it's better to watch the company crumble than let you take over it." He said and she laughed.

"You're too proud for that. Without this company, your status, and money will all vanish. You will have nothing to brag about, and nothing to steal from to fund your extravagance. You think I don't know that the company's profits are so low because you, your son and grandsons are too busy embezzling funds?""

"Be careful what accusations you speak of, especially when you have no proof." Gregory stepped in.

"Are you sure I don't have proof, father? I think you're the one who should be careful when you're not a hundred percent sure what I do, or don't have. For now, my priority is getting this company back on its feet, so if you stay out of my way, I'll stay out of yours. And friendly advice, I suggest you tell you pops to watch his blood pressure. His face is redder than a tomato, and his breathing is a bit accelerated."

She moved towards her office, and passed by the secretarial corner.

"I want all managers, and heads of departments gathered in conference room 2 in ten minutes. Anyone who's late should consider themselves fired. Pass that message along." She ordered, and two of the other secretaries immediately got up to start making calls and sending messages.

The rude secretary that had looked down on her that day was too shocked to move at first. She was wondering why she hadn't been fired yet, despite how disrespectful she had been to Elisa previously.

"Do you need a special memo?" She asked the rude secretary, and the woman finally snapped out of it.

She was grateful that she still had her job, but at the same time, terrified of what would happen next. Was she really off the hook, just like that?"
