Chapter 17 - Calamity

In a spacious room decorated with tall bookshelves and a flying chandelier, a youth with brown hair and purplish eyes is sitting on a chair writing on a book with a quill pen. He is Luceran's friend, Kellen. He is frowning and looks focused. As he laid his eyes on the book, a transparent owl came and landed on the table in front of him.

The owl then stepped on his shoulder and was absorbed into his body. He closed his eyes, as if deeply contemplating something. 'Teacher wants me to deliver a message to Grand Marshal Lex Ragnar?'

He then waved his hands, and a parchment appeared on the table. It is a map of Primordia. He put his hand on his chin while still looking at the map. 'If I remember correctly, he is stationed at Ironmarch. That city is quite close to Hall of Heroes, which is where the Grand Marshal is stationed.' He mused to himself.

'I guess it is time to meet him again. How long has it been again? Over half a year I guess.' The map of Primordia then vanished; he closed the book and then headed outside of the room.

Far above the Cosmic Spire Tower of the Immortal Academy, on the clouds, two people are sitting on wooden chairs playing chess. One of them is an old man with white hair and a long white beard, wearing a blue robe with intricate white runes engraved on the robe. He is the principal of the Immortal Academy.

The sparring partner of the principal is an adult looking at his mid-thirties with a trimmed beard. He is wearing a clean brown tunic. He looks relaxed, as if enjoying the atmosphere and also the chess match.

"It has been a very long time since we last met." The principal said to the handsome middle-aged man while moving his chess piece.

"Old man, how have you been?" He takes a sip of a tea that out of nowhere suddenly materializes.

"Same as always." He looks at the horizon as he waits for his opponent to move. "What is your purpose here?" The principal asked calmly while sipping the tea.

"Nothing, I just want to visit some friends that I know since I passed Primordia." He said flatly while moving his chess piece.

"We have known each other for eras; not once did you come only for a small talk." The principal said.

"Why can't I? Maybe now I come for a small talk, right?" He replied, looking aggrieved, as if everytime he comes he always brings bad news. Hearing his reply, the principal response is silence.

The silence remains, and the game of chess continues until the sun sets on the horizon. The principal moves his chess piece and looks at the middle-aged man. "Checkmate."

The middle-aged man sighed deeply when he knew that he had lost the match. "I've practiced so many games, I really thought I had you this time." He shook his head. He stood and then looked at the horizon.

"A calamity is approaching Primordia." His voice broke the silence.

"What do you mean?" The principal eyebrows shot up. He looked at the middle-aged man, waiting for a real answer.

"What is considered acalamity for the whole of Primordia? It's not just another Beast Catastrophe like the one two hundred thousand years ago or the Gorgoloth Revolution from twenty thousand years ago. Even the Dark Prince wasn't a threat of this caliber." He mentioned every major event that happened far in the past that served as the history of Primordia.

"What calamity is approaching then?" The principal probed, "Are you, by any chance, talking about the Eldritch force?" The principal voice was slow and small.

The middle-aged man looked at the principal and nodded. "Mythralis, I have seen it in my vision. They are returning. They are waiting." He said gravely to Mythralis, the principal.

"Impossible, the Ten Paragons banished the Eldritch Gods to the void a million years ago, unable to enter Primordia. In fact, the seal is still intact now." Mythralis dismissed the possibility of his claim.

"Old friend, I have no reason to lie to you. You have been the guardian of Primordia for many eras. You should know more than me." He replied to the principal. "I was not known as The Oracle for nothing, old friend. I have divined many things and dreamed many visions. But nothing is as real as this one. The coming darkness devours worlds, not only Primordia." He said with a deep fear and grim face.

"But how? I constantly check the seal at the Realm Membrane; it is always fortified by every Celestial Master of Primordia." Still feels confused by his 'prophecy.'

"I've said what I foresaw. It is up to you whether you believe it or not. After all, you are the guardian of Primordia, not me. I am just a traveler between realms." He said melancholically as his body turned to ash and disappeared, leaving the principal alone looking at the horizon.

He reached out, and an ancient wooden staff materialized in his hand. Then he waved his staff, and a space crack appeared. He stepped into the tear and arrived in an empty void.

Behind him, Primordia could be seen floating in an empty void; it is so big that despite arriving thousands of kilometers in the sky, it still looks endless. a transparent halo of swirling seven-colored light circled the realm. It is the Realm Membrane that functions as a defense mechanism to protect the realm from invaders.

He reached into the void, his senses searching the perimeter. The Realm Membrane was still intact and had even grown a bit stronger from the baptism of a new Celestial Master a few months ago.

'If the problem isn't the Realm Membrane, what could it be?' he muttered to himself. 'Could it be... infiltration?' His face grew grave, his eyes searching the cosmic void around him for any sign of a coming disaster.

Back at Ironmarch, Kellen is flying with average speed to the mount station. 'I wonder when will Luceran install a teleportation gate in Ironmarch.' He mused while complaining in his mind about the long journey that he is about to experience.

When he arrived at the mount station, a middle-aged man with a brown robe saluted him, "Young Master Kellen!"

"Senior, are there any Silver Crown Eagles inside the stable?" Kellen asked the middle-aged man.

"There is, young master! This way, please." He then proceeded to lead Kellen. After a short walk, a twelve-meter-long and three-meter-tall silver crown eagle lay on the ground, a majestic and beautiful sight.

When it saw the approaching figures, the eagle stood, as if it already knew what to do. Kellen jumped gracefully onto its back, and the eagle soared into the sky with blinding speed, disappearing into the horizon.
