Chapter 27 - Ryan's Testimony

The courtroom fell silent as Ryan took the stand. His eyes darted around the room, and his voice trembled as he began to testify.

"Can you describe your relationship with Emily?" the prosecutor asked, her voice firm.

Ryan hesitated, his eyes dropping to the floor. "We were in a relationship, but it was complicated. I was obsessed with her, and I did some things that I regret."

The prosecutor nodded, her expression stern. "And can you tell us about the tracking device you implanted in Emily's arm?"

Ryan's face went white, and he nodded slowly. "I...I did it because I was worried about her safety. I thought it would help me keep her safe."

The prosecutor raised an eyebrow. "And did you have any involvement in Emily's murder?"

Ryan's voice cracked as he spoke. "I didn't kill her, I swear. But I know who did. It was Thompson. He found out that Emily was investigating him, and he was furious. He told me that he would take care of her, and I knew what that meant."

The courtroom erupted into murmurs, and Thompson's lawyers looked at each other in surprise. Detective Jameson watched intently, his eyes locked onto Thompson's face.

The prosecutor pressed on, her questions digging deeper into Ryan's involvement with Thompson. "And what did Thompson mean by 'taking care of' Emily?"

Ryan's voice was barely above a whisper. "He meant killing her. He said it was the only way to protect himself and his interests."

The courtroom fell silent again, the weight of Ryan's testimony hanging in the air. Thompson's face turned red with anger, and his lawyers looked like they were struggling to come up with a defense.

Detective Jameson felt a sense of satisfaction, knowing that Ryan's testimony could be the key to convicting Thompson. But he also knew that the trial was far from over, and that Thompson's lawyers would do everything in their power to discredit Ryan's testimony.
