OPTC Chapter 274: The Sky Priestess
Soon, the glow of the magic circle faded, and two small figures appeared on the deck—one was a blue-haired little girl in a green checkered skirt, and the other… was a small white cat?
So today's fishing trip hooked two fish, and even the summoning brought two newcomers at once? Zhang Da Ye didn't have time to dwell on it—both newcomers looked to be in bad shape.
They were lying motionless on the floor. Artoria and Rui Meng Meng quickly ran over, kneeling down to check on them—one holding the little girl, the other the white cat.
At that moment, Zhang Da Ye saw their information appear before him:
Name: Wendy Marvell
Alias: Sky Priestess, Sky Dragon Slayer
Profile: From the world of "Fairy Tail," raised by the Sky Dragon Grandine. Once a member of the guild "Cait Shelter." After its disappearance, Wendy joined "Fairy Tail."
During the battle on Tenrou Island against the Black Dragon Acnologia, Wendy and her guild suffered a crushing defeat. Fortunately, the First Guild Master, Mavis, used the super-magic "Fairy Sphere" to protect and seal them. Unless something unexpected happened, Wendy and her friends would remain sealed on Tenrou Island for seven years.
Name: Carla
Alias: Exceed
Profile: From the world of "Fairy Tail." Wendy's inseparable companion. During the Tenrou Island incident, she and Wendy held hands, their shared wish to protect each other causing an unexpected anomaly.
"Fairy Tail, Tenrou Island…" Zhang Da Ye remembered this part of the story—it was when Fairy Tail held their S-Class Wizard Exam, only to be attacked by the dark guild "Grimoire Heart."
After that brutal battle, they faced the Black Dragon Acnologia—an opponent so strong even plot armor couldn't save them.
No wonder these two were unconscious after all that. But… how did they sign a contract while in that state?
Zhang Da Ye asked, "How are they doing?"
Artoria replied, "Their injuries aren't serious. They seem to be recovering fast—it's more like exhaustion than wounds. They must have just gone through a tough battle."
Zhang Da Ye nodded. "Alright, let's carry them to a room to rest. Tonight—"
"Put them in my room!" Perona interrupted quickly. "I'll take care of them tonight."
The moment she saw Wendy, Perona had decided—she had to be friends with her. Everyone on the ship was nice, but she still wanted a friend her own age.
"You?" Zhang Da Ye looked doubtful. In the original story, she did take care of Zoro for a while, but honestly, Zoro probably survived on sheer luck.
"What's with that look?!" Perona puffed up angrily. "I can take good care of them!"
"Yes, yes, I'm counting on you," Zhang Da Ye said. "Meng Meng, help her out too."
"Alright," Rui Meng Meng replied, following Perona toward her room, with the others trailing behind.
"Hmph… so half-hearted…" Perona grumbled, puffing her cheeks as she followed.
In the end, only Tom was left on deck, holding his chest with a dreamy look on his face.
From both human and feline perspectives, Carla was an undeniably adorable little female cat—emphasis on female.
So Tom took out a small mirror, tidied his fur, tied a bow around his neck, and even curled his tail into a perfect spiral.
But as soon as he tried to go inside, Zhang Da Ye stopped him. "Tom, not now. They're still unconscious—let them rest first."
One look at Tom and Zhang Da Ye knew what he was thinking. If he didn't stop him, Tom would probably pull out a guitar and pretend to serenade her next. (And Zhang Da Ye still didn't understand why Tom faked it when he could actually play.)
Disappointed, Tom returned to his usual self and leaned beside Perona's bed, watching the sleeping Wendy and Carla.
Zhang Da Ye sighed. Tom fell for every cute female cat he met—chased one after another, got rejected every time. The guy was practically born to be single.
Strictly speaking, Carla's species, "Exceed," wasn't an ordinary cat anyway. Then again, Tom wasn't exactly ordinary either… Oh well, best not to think too hard about it.
While everyone was gathered, Zhang Da Ye gave a quick introduction about Wendy, Carla, and their world. He finished with, "Basically, Wendy's a Dragon Slayer mage—she specializes in healing and support magic, though she can attack too. I'm not sure how strong she is, though."
Perona gasped. "A wizard? That's amazing!"
Rui Meng Meng glanced at Wendy and whispered, "But she's so small… a magical girl?"
"Dragon Slayer Magic?" Artoria repeated, intrigued. She had felt an odd sense of familiarity ever since Wendy appeared.
Zhang Da Ye explained, "Dragon Slayer Magic was created to fight dragons. It transforms a human's body into that of a dragon's, letting them use dragon magic. As their mastery grows, they start showing draconic traits—eventually, they can fully turn into dragons."
Wait—didn't Artoria's magic resistance come from having dragon blood? Did that mean Wendy could potentially bypass it?
And hold on—the Sky Dragon Grandine, who raised Wendy and taught her Dragon Slayer magic—wasn't she still hiding inside Wendy to suppress her dragonization?
So… did she get brought along too? A stowaway hitching a ride?
As Zhang Da Ye looked at Wendy, a new window appeared:
Name: Grandine
Alias: Sky Dragon
Profile: From "Fairy Tail." Wendy's foster mother, who vanished years ago. In truth, she's hidden within Wendy's body to help resist dragonization. During the Tenrou Island incident, she was about to appear to face Acnologia but sensed the activation of "Fairy Sphere." Knowing her next appearance would mean her disappearance, she chose to remain hidden.
Then, a soft, ethereal voice echoed in Zhang Da Ye's mind.
"Young man, it seems you're the one who summoned us. You appear to know quite a lot about us."
Zhang Da Ye replied, "Yes, that's me. You're Grandine, right? What exactly happened?"
Grandine explained, "When that mysterious magic contract appeared, Wendy had already lost consciousness, so I signed it in her place. Though Wendy's gifted, she's still immature compared to the other Dragon Slayers. I hope she can use this time—while her friends are sealed—to grow into a true Dragon Slayer."
"You can do that?" Zhang Da Ye was stunned. "Isn't that like a parent signing a legal contract for their kid without asking first?"
Grandine continued, "Wendy doesn't know I'm still within her. Please don't tell her."
"Why not? She's been looking for you, hasn't she? Wouldn't telling her help?"
"It wouldn't help her growth. A child must one day part from her mother. My strength is fading, and her time to mature is limited." Grandine's tone carried faint sorrow. She needed to conserve her power for the great dangers ahead—if not for this rare situation, she wouldn't even have spoken.
After thinking for a while, Zhang Da Ye nodded. "Alright, I'll respect your wishes. I won't tell her."
"Thank you. Though this is our first meeting, I can tell you're kind people. Please take care of Wendy for me…"
Her voice faded into silence—Grandine had returned to slumber, saving her strength for when it was truly needed.
Zhang Da Ye sighed. "Why do people keep calling us kind? That label's too heavy…"
Artoria asked, "Da Ye, were you just talking to someone?"
"You didn't hear that?" He blinked. Seeing their confused faces, he guessed, "It must've been some kind of telepathic magic—what do they call it, 'Mind Talk'? Anyway, I just confirmed the details of Wendy's contract."
Shark Chili spoke up, "So her goal is to become stronger—same as mine! I'll help her however I can!"
"Speaking of which, Mr. Shark Chili," Brook interjected, "you haven't done your treatment today."
"…" Shark Chili's expression turned nervous, but remembering his earlier words about becoming stronger, he straightened up. "No problem! Let's do it right now!"
As Shark Chili and Brook left, little Perona fell into thought. Wendy's goal was to become an excellent Dragon Slayer. What was her goal?
Her old dream was to collect all cute animals and turn them into undead pets that would never leave her. Now that sounded a bit cruel. So what was her dream now? To become… an excellent elementary schooler?
Perona shook her head furiously. "No way!"
After a while, seeing Wendy and Charle still unconscious, the others went off to do their own tasks, leaving only Rui Meng Meng and Perona to keep watch.
Tom wanted to stay too, but Zhang Da Ye dragged him out. Even when Tom tried locking the door, Zhang Da Ye pulled him out through the gap. That troublemaker would definitely cause chaos if left alone.
…
The next morning, Wendy slowly opened her eyes. The unfamiliar ceiling made her uneasy. "Where am I? Carla?"
Seeing Carla beside her brought a little comfort. "I remember… we were on Tenrou Island. Then we met…"
"Our friends!" Wendy suddenly sat up, panic flashing in her eyes as she looked around—but besides Carla, the only one there was a pink-haired girl sleeping by the bed.
"So noisy…" Perona yawned, rubbing her eyes. When she saw Wendy awake, she beamed. "You're finally up!"
"Um… uh…" Wendy hugged Carla tightly, shrinking to the corner of the bed before nervously asking, "Um, excuse me—where are we? Did you save us?"
"What's wrong, Wendy?" Carla stirred awake too. "Are we… still alive?"
"You're awake too, kitty. I'm Perona. You're on our ship now—it's safe here." She smiled shyly. "I was supposed to keep watch last night but… kinda fell asleep."
Just then, Rui Meng Meng entered with a breakfast tray. "You're awake! Hungry? Have something to eat first."
"Thank you," Wendy and Carla said softly as Rui Meng Meng set the tray down. From the looks of it, they'd been rescued. If they were fine, then maybe their friends were safe too.
Wendy asked timidly, "Did you see our companions? Are they alright?"
"They're fine, but… it's complicated," Rui Meng Meng replied. "I'll let our captain explain."
When Zhang Da Ye arrived, Wendy and Carla were nibbling gently at their food under Perona's watchful eye.
Knowing Wendy was shy and easily flustered, Zhang Da Ye smiled warmly. "Hello, I'm Zhang Da Ye. I used to run a small tavern. Now I'm traveling the world with everyone here."
Startled, Wendy swallowed too quickly and started choking, pounding her chest with tiny fists.
"You scared her!" Perona protested immediately.
Carla handed Wendy a cup of water.
After a few gulps, Wendy sat up straight. "I'm sorry! My name is Wendy Marvell, and this is Carla. We're wizards of Fairy Tail!"
Zhang Da Ye flinched instinctively, half-expecting background music to start playing. "Alright, let me explain the situation simply. During your fight with Acnologia, the entire Tenrou Island was protected by a powerful magic called Fairy Sphere. Everyone there is safe."
"Really? That's wonderful!" Wendy and Carla both lit up with relief.
"But," Zhang Da Ye continued, "because of that spell, everyone on the island will remain sealed for seven years. The reason you two ended up here is that you signed a magic contract that brought you to another world—this one."
The idea of being in another world didn't shock them much, especially since Carla herself came from one called Edolas.
"I don't remember signing any contract," Carla said firmly—her strongest wish was to protect Wendy.
"Me neither," Wendy added softly.
Zhang Da Ye explained, "It was Grandine who signed it for you."
"Grandine?! You've seen her? Where is she?!" Wendy's eyes filled with tears—she hadn't seen her dragon mother in years.
"I haven't met her directly," Zhang Da Ye said gently. "She only asked me to take care of you while your friends are sealed—to help you grow into a great Dragon Slayer."
