Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: You Don't Take My Words Seriously

While Kira was in the shower, she suddenly heard a knock on the door followed by the creaking sound of it opening. Then she heard a voice—her eyes narrowed, and her fists clenched tightly.

"Hello, ma'am, I am Kira's boyfriend," Davies announced confidently. Hearing his words, Kira's chest heaved with anger; fury burned inside her.

What she didn't expect was her mother's cheerful response. Mrs.. Samuels happily invited him inside. "Great, come in. Kira's in her room. She'll be out soon. Would you like a glass of juice or water?"

Davies replied politely, "Thank you, ma'am. I'd prefer a glass of water."

Kira grabbed her towel, slowly wiping herself dry. Once finished, she stepped out of the shower and quickly dressed. After slipping into her clothes, she opened her door and stepped out of her room.

On her way back to the sitting room, she overheard Davies asking, "Ma'am, I'd like to take Kira on a date—to see a movie."

She quickened her pace, but it was too late. Her mother already responded, "Come back in the evening and pick her up. I'll make sure she's ready."

Kira entered the sitting room and shot Davies an icy glare. He looked up at her, then quickly turned his gaze away with an expressionless face. Kira opened her mouth to speak, but her mother appeared from the kitchen, calling out, "Kira, come help me in the kitchen. Your dad will be home soon, and we'll have breakfast."

Kira knew her mother didn't really need her help in the kitchen; she was just calling her over because of Davies. She shot him a threatening look, whispering under her breath, "Fuck off before I get mad at you."

Without another word, she turned and headed into the kitchen.

When Mrs. Samuels saw Kira, she shot her a quick look. Kira immediately understood what she wanted to know and nodded subtly.

Mrs. Samuels touched her forehead in frustration. She had been hoping for a son-in-law, but now she had three—each more headache-inducing than the last. She hesitated before asking, "Does he know you have two others?"

Kira shrugged nonchalantly and replied, "I don't care."

Mrs. Samuels's lips twitched at her daughter's defiance. She gently advised, "Kira, no matter what, he's still your mate. You need to treat him well."

Knowing her mother would nag if she argued further, Kira changed the subject. "Dad will be home soon, and the dining table isn't set yet."

Mrs. Samuels quickly realized this too. She said hurriedly, "Let's get it done quickly. Your dad must be very hungry."

Suddenly, Kira heard the honking of a car and the barking of a dog. She had already noticed the engine sound from afar when Mr. Samuels's car was about a kilometer away.

"Your dad's here," Mrs. Samuels said happily, her face bright with a smile. Kira watched her mother rush out of the kitchen. Mrs. Samuels always acted like that when her father returned home, even if he had only been gone for a minute.

Kira turned to the dining table and began arranging it herself. As she worked, she overheard her father talking to Davies outside the kitchen. When her mother returned, she approached Kira and said, "Kira, this is a perfect chance for you to wear the dinner gown I bought last December. No excuses. You're going out on a date with him."

Hearing this, Kira grumbled, "Mom, I don't want to go anywhere. I just want to stay home with you and Dad."

Her mother replied softly, "I wish we could spend the whole day together, my dear. But you'll have to go out on this date."

Mrs. Samuels then left the kitchen, leaving Kira muttering under her breath. As she stepped out, she cast a cold glare at Davies, but he acted as if he hadn't noticed.

Kira walked over to the dining table. Mr. Samuels invited Davies, "Kid, come and eat with us."

Davies then stood up and moved to sit at the table, deliberately avoiding Kira's icy stare. He sat down and began eating breakfast, chatting happily with Kira's parents.

Kira sat silently, her expression cold, but Davies pretended to be oblivious to her demeanor. He continued talking cheerfully with her parents.

When she finished eating, Kira stood up and announced, "I'm done, Mom."

Without waiting for a response, she left the table and went straight to her room. Once inside, she locked the door and lay on her bed, feeling exhausted. She had been suppressing her anger all morning, and it was threatening to boil over.

Inside her room, she heard Mrs. Samuels talking to Davies after the door creaked shut. "I'll make sure she's ready for the date. Just come on time," her mother said softly.

"I will, Mrs. Samuels," Davies replied.

Kira got out of bed, moved over to her window, and watched as Davies walked toward his car and hopped in. Her fists clenched tightly, her face set with a stern expression, and her eyes dark with anger. She was annoyed and had already made up her mind to intercept him on his way and make him regret showing up uninvited at her home.

Just as she was about to leap out of the window, a knock sounded at the door. Kira froze, her eyelids drooping slightly. "Come in," she called softly.

The door creaked open, and Mrs. Samuels stepped inside with a gentle smile. She looked at Kira standing by the open window, suspicion flickering in her eyes.

She raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing there?"

Kira flashed her mother a quick, cheeky smile. "The flowers have blossomed, and soon it will start snowing. I wanted to see it before they lose their charm."

Mrs. Samuels's lips twitched, recognizing that Kira was lying—she was a terrible liar, after all.

Meanwhile, Davies was unaware that Kira was about to go after him. He was grinning from ear to ear as he drove home. On the way, he spotted someone standing in the middle of the road.

His eyes narrowed as he recognized the young man. He slowed the car and came to a halt. Pascal, standing in the street, looked up and said, "You don't take my words seriously."
