"Peter, what have you been busy with lately?"
On campus, Gwen Stacy finally caught Peter Parker. She stood in front of Peter with a book in her hand and asked.
"Nothing." Peter answered subconsciously, then looked at the girl's eyes and his heart softened. He confessed: "Do you know Dr. Connors?"
"The one from Osborn Industries?" Gwen Stacy reacted almost immediately. Dr. Curtis Connors was a master in the field of biology, and anyone interested in the field would have heard of him.
"That's him. I helped him a little. It was just a tiny favor!" Peter said, puffing out his chest. "I've been learning from him for a while now."
"Helped him a little?" Gwen and Peter walked together towards the school gate.
"I helped him solve some research problems. To be precise, the research materials left by my father happened to contain the solution to the problems Dr. Connors faced." Peter answered honestly.
"That's great." Gwen nodded approvingly. "Have you been studying with Dr. Connors these days?"
"Yes." Peter hesitated, then nodded. He really wanted to tell Gwen about the recent changes in his body, but he was afraid it would scare her and make her think he was a monster. Although he knew it was probably just his imagination, the young man's mind was full of twists and turns.
Besides, he didn't know how to start.
He claimed he was bitten by an experimental spider while visiting Osborn Industries. After the bite, he took on some of the spider's characteristics! He became incredibly powerful.
Come on, just thinking about it made Peter feel awkward. It took him some time to gradually understand and accept the change in himself. This change inevitably affected his mental state, but at least it gave him a bit more confidence. When facing the guys on the football team, he didn't have to worry about being lectured like before.
"What about you? I mean the visit to Heberon." Peter found a new topic to talk about.
"Incredible." Gwen's eyes lit up. "I always thought Heberon was only good at mechanical technology, but his achievements in biological science are also quite impressive."
"I think Dr. Connors' research is more meaningful. Once successful, many people who have lost limbs due to accidents will be able to regain their lost limbs." Peter said a few more words for Dr. Connors.
Gwen shook her head. She'd been worried about Peter's recent troubles, but now that she knew he was studying with Dr. Connors, her worries were naturally alleviated. She'd actually been quite busy lately. Because of her exceptional talent, she'd secured a part-time internship in the Heberlen Biology Department. Her advisor was Tilda Jensen, a young woman who had already collaborated with the military on various biological and genetic projects on behalf of Heberlen.
…
"The longevity injection's effects are surprisingly stable. The test subject is currently in good health. His body had already reached its limit of aging, but after the injection, everything is improving. If nothing unexpected happens, he'll even be able to get up from his hospital bed and leisurely dance around on the floor. The doctor concluded that his organs are strong enough to function healthily for another six years."
Nick Fury's voice came from the other side of the receiver, clearly reaching Luke's ears.
"In other words, no adverse sequelae or serious side effects have been found so far?" Luke turned the receiver of his phone and carefully looked through the latest observation report that Nick sent him.
"No. Everything is going in a good direction. I think it's already a successful injection." Nick nodded. SHIELD has a lot of good things, but that doesn't mean he can ignore this good thing that seems to have few side effects and can be mass-produced.
"That's good," Luke responded.
"Great? I think you should be more excited." Nick joked, "I plan to apply for funding to build a private nursing home. Of course, the main facility will be Heberlen. You don't have to worry about anything. You just need to provide longevity injections. Tell me the truth, little Luke, how much do you plan to sell each injection for?"
"One hundred million US dollars." Luke readily quoted the price.
Nick, on the other hand, was very surprised. "What? Two hundred million dollars a shot? You're such a profiteer! But this is your exclusive technology after all. The cost of making one shot must be very high, right?"
"Uh, you're right."
Good man, Luke finally saw how thick-skinned Nick Fury was. He felt that he still had a lot to learn from him.
"Purification is very troublesome. The longer the vampires have existed, the more effective the longevity genes that can be extracted will be. Add to that the complexity of the process and the targeted formulation, and the qualified product rate is not high." Luke closed his eyes and began to make up stories.
"That's a great template. I'll use it when I have the chance." Nick liked the template Luke had come up with. "Leave all the preparation and client sourcing, including the hassle, to me. For $200 million, I'll take $80 million for my hard work. Is that okay?"
"No problem," Luke nodded graciously. After all, if you wanted someone of Nick Fury's stature to lead the charge, you'd have to pay him some sort of favor. Besides, the money came from the sheep, and Luke and Hebron didn't have to pay for it.
"The self-healing injection is about to enter its third round of testing. Previous tests across all races and age groups have performed very well. The underground world is unexpectedly enthusiastic about this potion." Nick, upon hearing the answer he wanted to hear, smiled slightly. "I'll do my best to secure a large order for you. At the very least, I believe S.H.I.E.L.D. agents need to carry a life-saving injection like this with them when on mission!"
"The production capacity is a bit insufficient." Luke said honestly: "I only have one old vampire here, and some genetically engineered bats cloned from the old vampire's genes."
"Then stock up on raw materials." Nick didn't dwell on the turmoil in the underground world anymore. The course of events was inevitable. If the vampires demonstrated unexpectedly great value, that value would directly determine the attitude of the human leaders towards them. Unfortunately, the value they demonstrated this time was enormous enough to make those people's eyes blaze with envy.
PS: I feel like I'm recovering now. The chills aren't as severe anymore, but I do have a sore throat, muscle aches, and a runny nose. Many of the bigwigs in my group have already abandoned me. Today, Sanjiang has 17 books. Wow, two authors couldn't handle it anymore and asked for leave. I think mine is the least severe.
