Chapter 4 - The Betrayer - Wallace

Almost in the next second, another gunshot rang out.

This time, the car window directly shattered, and the flying bullet blew the driver's head into a bloody, mangled mess.

The uncontrolled vehicle swerved off the road and slid far away.

"Two snipers, one o'clock direction, modified large-caliber destructive weapons.

The distance is about three hundred meters.

There are also three suspicious individuals approaching; Rat, you three go deal with them, Newt and I will escort the boss away." Wallace's voice from the Becky Squad came through the intercom on the driver's corpse.

The vehicle in front immediately accelerated, speeding towards the one o'clock direction.

The vehicle behind stopped on the right side of the car Luke Field was in; the modified commercial van, being a car length taller, perfectly served as a shield, blocking the sniper's line of sight.

The car door was pulled open directly, and Wallace gestured for Luke and Ina to switch cars.

Luke calmly opened the car door, pressing Ina Sandra's slightly flustered back, pushing her and a small silver-white box in her arms towards Wallace's car, then he too bent down and sprinted, being pulled directly in by Wallace's assistance.

The car door quickly closed, and then the car swiftly drove away from the scene.

"Oh my God, how dare they? Why is this happening?"

Ina Sandra was somewhat startled, gripping Luke's hand tightly with both hands, her emotions a bit flustered as she spoke.

In handling affairs, she could certainly be decisive and unflustered, because everything was within her control, but she had never experienced a situation like this, beyond her control, in her entire life.

This forced Luke to divert some energy to comfort her.

Although at this very moment, his little heart was also pounding in his chest.

Although ever since he knew what kind of World this was, he knew that sooner or later he would have to face such a situation, and for this, he had made all the preparations he could at present.

But thinking is one thing, preparation is another; encountering it for the first time was still a bit nerve-wracking.

But it was only a little nervous at first.

Now, Luke, who had calmed down after getting back into the car, could even comfort the flustered Ina Sandra with a relaxed expression.

It was rare for someone like her, who usually faced others with a confident, calm, and steady demeanor, to suddenly panic.

To those who knew her, it was even a little cute.

After a few minutes, Ina Sandra's emotions finally settled down, returning to her usual calm and composure.

She first released Luke's tightly clasped hand, tidied her hair, glanced out the window, and suddenly noticed something was wrong.

"This isn't the way back to Heberon.

Where are we going?" Ina Sandra frowned.

"To where we should go." Wallace, who was beside them, interjected, and then a gun muzzle was pressed against Luke's waist.

"Damn it!

Newt, stop the car!" Ina Sandra shouted to Newt in the driver's seat.

However, Newt acted as if he were deaf and blind, ignoring the voices and events in the back seat, even reaching up to adjust the rearview mirror.

"Please be quiet, Ms. Ina?

The fact that you were attacked certainly won't be concealed for long, so my time is very tight and cannot be wasted on useless chatter." Wallace smiled, "If you don't want your genius boy to be injured or die in front of you, please don't do anything extra or say anything extra, okay?"

"I trusted you so much!" Ina Sandra lowered her voice, seemingly afraid that if she spoke louder, Wallace would punch Luke Field, who was being held hostage beside her.

"Trust?" Wallace curled his lip: "Trust itself is a luxury for someone like me."

"Newt is your man?" Luke seemed very calm about being taken hostage and having a gun pressed against his waist.

He glanced at Newt, who was silently driving in front, and asked.

"That's not an easy question to answer." Wallace shrugged.

"Was this attack planned by you?

Were the previous snipers just to draw away Rat and the other two, so that Ina and I would willingly get into your car?

You shouldn't be the mastermind; who is the puppet master behind you?

Is it someone I offended?

There aren't many people I've encountered who could order someone like you to risk your life.

Is it Justin Hammer with whom I had a conflict?

He seems to be the only one I've offended who has strong connections in the Military and sufficient strength and influence." Luke Field speculated.

"Why couldn't it be something I wanted to do myself?" Wallace asked with a smile.

"I don't believe that with Ina's meticulous work style, she wouldn't do any background checks when selecting security personnel for me.

Since you were chosen, besides performing well enough, it means your past experience and personality assessment made her believe you were trustworthy." Luke Field sighed.

"I want something, and I know you brought it with you today.

It's that box in your hand; tell me the password!" Wallace said: "Don't make me go to extra trouble.

You two are so smart, you must know your fate tonight.

Please don't make yourselves suffer before the end, okay?"

"Haibolun Technology's research and development data!" Ina Sandra glared at Wallace.

"That's right, hand them over.

I'll give you a quick end." Wallace nodded, smiling politely at Ina Sandra, whose eyes were filled with anger.

"Industrial espionage, I knew it!

Is this because you couldn't get what you wanted through normal means, so you resorted to unconventional methods?

" Luke Field raised an eyebrow: "You had multiple preparations from the start; truly worthy of an old arms dealer.

It seems the Military's engagement with Haibolun Technology really hit a nerve with him.

In the high-end market, Stark Industries is impregnable to him.

He can only create imitations of Stark Industries' products by poaching talent, and elevate his company's value by propping up various geniuses to benchmark and imitate Tony Stark.

But still, the same question remains: if there's an authentic product at a reasonable price, why choose a flawed imitation?

Hammer Industries' recent performance hasn't been great, and he has to face Heberon, a new competitor who is stealing his share and succeeding.

Mr. Hammer is probably overwhelmed right now; he wouldn't be treating my Technology as his last resort, would he?"

Wallace was silent.

"This has nothing to do with anyone else.

Newt and I just want to earn some money for retirement.

There's a buyer on the black market who has placed an order for your Technology, and the reward is substantial."

"Watertight.

I believe that, without any unexpected events, all loose ends will be perfectly arranged by the people behind you.

Even if Hammer Industries eventually obtains Haibolun Technology's Technology, tracing it back would only lead to the black market, or even to Haibolun Technology itself after we are gone and it's acquired.

When there are no other options, and the profit is substantial enough, his connections will be sufficient to settle this suspicion.

The standard winner-takes-all mentality.

However, Lieutenant Wallace, the premise of all this success is that no unexpected events occur." Luke Field said.

Wallace instinctively felt something was wrong, but before he could do anything, he and Newt in the driver's seat suddenly had their limbs bound as if by an invisible rope.

Their hands were forcibly pressed against their thighs, and their entire bodies twitched as they slumped upright in their seats.

The driverless car snaked and swerved for a distance on the road, finally coming to a stop under Luke's control.

"To hold me hostage with my own creation, that's just too amusing."

Luke Field, who had crossed back into the backseat from the driver's seat, looked at the Haibolun Technology gloves and mechanical boots still on Wallace's hands and feet, finding it both frustrating and funny.

Under continuous stimulation and then a desperate turn of events, Ina Sandra's brain was somewhat overloaded, but after the car stopped, she finally regained her senses.

To Luke's astonished gaze, she lifted her long, high-heeled legs and fiercely kicked Wallace's vital male area twice.

"I messed things up." After kicking, Ina Sandra looked at Luke with some shame; two undercover agents were actually in the security team she had personally selected and assembled!

One of them was even the Captain of the security squad!

This was simply absurd!

"Who would have thought?

If you ask me, machines are more reliable than people." Luke Field had already decided that once his talent upgraded again, he would expand and build his own mechanical team!

As his own creations, those mechanical constructs were powerful and loyal!

Ina Sandra couldn't refute anything when she heard this, after all, the final turnaround still relied on the products Luke had created.

Although she didn't know that even without these products, Wallace and his men couldn't harm Luke or her.

After all, with five years of talent awakening and draw accumulation, Luke still had a batch of good things in his hands.

"I'll leave these people to you.

Help me cause some trouble for Mr. Justin Hammer.

I don't care if he's the mastermind behind this or not, he's the most suspicious!

Bullying the weak and fearing the strong is not a good quality!

He doesn't dare to bully Stark, but he dares to cause me trouble; that's not good." Luke Field didn't plan to do anything to Justin Hammer right now, after all, if nothing unexpected happened, he wouldn't need to do anything, this master imitator of Stark products wouldn't have much time left to cause trouble.
