Chapter 38 - BACK

I stared down at Kit; he was doing the same, the sudden realization of the mishap of names washed all over us.

I didn't know how to feel. I didn't know how to look into Kit's eyes—they had started to glow.

"It's happening! Look at my eyes and don't stray away, Erebus."

He didn't need to say those words; I myself couldn't stop staring at his deep red eyes.

His eyes glowed more and more. I couldn't see his eyes anymore; I couldn't see his pupils.

The red light was too much to handle. I was losing my balance somehow, and I wasn't even standing!

Darkness engulfed me completely.

The lights had been switched off. I could once again move my eyes and my head.

Kit had moved his head away from my direction. I could sense that I was no longer sitting on the cold stones of the stadium; the cold surface was replaced by something soft, something like a cushion, like a bed.

I looked around in mystery. We were back in Kit's room.

I put my hands on my head to numb the pain. I was suddenly having a headache.

"What did we just see? Was that real?!"

I was trying to somehow reject the possibility of the stadium and the story of the slave being real.

Kit coughed. He wasn't sitting on the bed; he was in his wheelchair, making strange faces with his mouth.

"Maybe, maybe not! The desert I was transported to was every bit real, though. I checked for it in some books."

"What was his son's name?"

"They never mentioned it."

I was looking at kit's wheelchair for some reason

"Are you feeling hungry?"

"Yes! It's like my stomach is crying for food!"

"Me too, let's grab something from the kitchen."

We rolled down to the kitchen. Was it night already? We had been there for like eight hours—it must be night.

I signaled Kit to tiptoe his way to the kitchen.

Maybe everyone was sleeping. The worst scenario was that Miss Mary and all the other people had ventured off to look for us.

That was actually the only possible scenario; they wouldn't have dinner without me and Kit, and they would surely try to find us.

Miss Mary is gonna kill us. Wait, she knows something about the red eyes of Kit, so we can explain it to her.

Or maybe not. Let time decide.

"Erebus, look there!"

Kit pointed towards the windows of the hall.

I gasped in surprise.

"No way!"

Broad daylight poured through the window.
