Xander POV
"Linda, there you are!, I've been looking for you all over, where'd you go??". I ran towards Linda .
It had been a day since I had that conversation with my dad.
Linda was a very special person to me, and I really wanted to tell her that I'll be leaving shortly, but I had been too busy to speak with her.
"I almost thought I wouldn't see you".
"Oh!, Xan how...did you find me??". She was sweating profusely.
"What'd you been up to". I stared at her, she seemed a little too thin and her hair had started to fade at the tip.
"I've been doing okay!". She gave me a thumbs up.
"You don't look okay, but if you say so ". I decided not to press the issue any forward.
"Let's go!!".
"Go where??". She asked confused.
"I've prepared a day of fun activities for just the two of us!".
*That came out wrongly*. I didn't want her to misunderstand, she was like a little sister to me.
"I'm really sorry Xain!, but I'm not....
I stopped her midway
"I wont take 'no' for an answer".
" Fine then, I guess I have no choice ".
She sighed .
"Yep, you don't ". I nodded.
Something was strange about Linda, she had never refused to go somewhere with me.
"Okay then, let's go!!". She smiled brightly.
Finally, that's the Linda I know .
I held her hand and led her downstairs.
The orphanage was not that large but still it housed over three hundred orphans. The hostel which I was currently in, the girls hostel had over six floors, but it wasn't as big as the guys hostel which had nine floors, the boys there was always so chill, I liked visiting them.
Especially a chubby one, Max, we had so much in common; he was a total video game addict like me. We could speak for hours and hours and never get tired.
What I found strange about the orphanage was that it compressed everything into just two buildings; the girls had their canteens and what not in just a building, and vice versa for the guys, even their playgrounds were separated.
This was what was strange, but the fact that they weren't allowed out of their building, except to their playgrounds and anyone who met or spoke to the other 'gender' would be severely punished or so I heard from Linda.
Another strange thing was that it was unknown, I wasn't talking about the research facility, but the orphanage, the research facility was highly known since it was opposite our beautiful and glorious museum.
But the orphanage wasn't known to a single soul other than my parents, my brother, I and the workers who worked in the orphanage and some'important' ones from the Research Facility.
The workers even had to sign a form of 'discretion'. But I wonder why??.
The research facility and orphanage had a very large, titanium wall 50m high around it. I knew it was from protection but..
(Star78 : Was that the only reason🤔🤔)
*Hey, that was my line*. I frowned.
(Star78 : Too bad,😛)
Anyway no matter the reasons for all the strange things happening, like why they always go to have checkups at the research facility or why some parts of the orphanage was locked.
Some floors in both of the hostels were locked. In the girls hostel, it was the sixth and seventh floors, while for the boys, it was the eight and ninth floors. Without a 'special pass' no one was allowed there.
Normally no one was allowed onto the orphanage without a pass, but this other pass seemed more important.
The wall which surrounded the Research Facility and Orphanage made it seem like the buildings were together or conjoined.
But that wasn't the case, there was another large gate separating both of them and there were security agents at the gate, without a pass you won't be let into the orphanage. The research facility also had security agents, infact it had top notch security, even more than the museum.
But no matter the strange features of the orphanage, the smiles on this orphans faces were more than enough for me to say I really loved my ancestors and parents for building and maintaining this place.
Just like I stated, this place wasn't made or created by my parents, but by my ancestors, infact everything in the Cain family (extended family)wasn't new but just passed down from generations to generations.
We were truly the definition of an aristocratic family, but luckily each and every generation did it's best to improve the businesses even more than the predecessor.
By each generation, the family kept on improving until we became today's well-known Cain billionaires.
Our name wasnt even the Cain's, it was just an ancestor ( someone around great grand level or more) who decided to change our family name and used his dad's name instead.
Since then we became the Cain's, so I was told. But I do prefer it way more than our previous thousand years old family name.
Anyway, for the past three generations or more, we have used Cain's.
"Let's hurry up, it's almost twelve". Checking the time on my smartwatch, I grabbed her little hand softly and we ran towards the elevator.
"But you always advised against running". She muttered.
"You know what, you're right actually!!". I stopped in my tracks.
"Let's walk instead". She just stared at me , but a goofy smile appeared on her face.
"What's with the smile??". I asked warily.
"Nothing!". She continued smiling, but drastically slowed down .
"I see what you doing,...
"What .....am I doing? ". She asked innocently.
"But you can always walk without going slowly". I told her.
"Can I?". She questioned.
" Yes you can, now would you please walk fastest, we're so close to the elevator ".
"Fine!". She pouted.
She increased her pace and we got into the elevator.
I decided to make a stop at her previous room to see Camila before leaving.
"If I didn't bother to check the second floor, I might have never seen you". We conversed after getting out of the elevator.
She stopped in her tracks and stared at the floor.
"I'm really sorry about that, Xain". She gave me a sad smile.
"You know, you remind me of some one". I held her hand and we kept on walking.
"Who??". She asked curiously.
"One of your cousins?". She asked again.
"Nope!, definitely not them". I shook my head.
"Then who?". She wondered.
"Not actually a person, My hamster!". I smiled at her.
"Hamster, really your hamster!!". She looked like she was about to blow.
"Yep!, my hamster always had that look when...
"Shush!, don't you dare compare me with a hamster, I'm not even chubby ".
"That's actually true, you're all skin and bones ".
"Argh!". She rushed towards me like an angry alligator.
"I'm going to deal with you today".
*That's much better*. I hated to see her sad.
"I better run". I rushed forward, further towards her previous room.
But we both stopped when we heard a scream coming from the room
"What was that". She asked.
"We better go find out".
I replied as we walked towards the room.
