Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 – Reason

Well, what can I say? She was hired by me and my old man. If I really killed her, I have no idea how the old man would react.

Besides, I wouldn't even know what to do with the body. I'd probably have to call my old man for that too.

For the first time, I regret not having any close friends.

Whatever. I keep staring at her beautiful face as she quietly drinks tea, acting like my warning was nothing more than hot air. And I was right—in her mind, every warning from me isn't even worth a fart.

Unable to stand the silence, I finally spoke up.

"You're really not scared at all?" Or do you just trust me too much?" I asked, secretly hoping she'd say she trusted me. But that was impossible—we've barely talked before. If not for my old man, she probably wouldn't even be working for me, no matter how much I paid.

She calmly poured herself another cup of tea and replied, "No. "It's not that I trust you. I just know you won't do it."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" I asked.

She raised an eyebrow. "You don't need to understand everything. Like how you never cared about business or the restaurants. I handled everything while you did nothing. Even in the old place, I was the one keeping everything in order.

"You never asked to see the account books. You never inspected the restaurants to check my work. You never even suspected me of stealing—in fact, I bet you never even thought about it.

"You were lazy like a pig. I had countless chances to cross the line, and I'm certain even your old man wouldn't have noticed. You ignored the important things and instead did something ridiculous, and I was always the one cleaning up after you.

"That's why I can say you'd never hurt me. Maybe you forced yourself to say that threatening line earlier, but deep down, you trust me more than yourself. I like that. That's why I've never betrayed you and have always covered for your mistakes.

"And besides… you're scared of your old man. He'd beat you if you ever laid a hand on me."

She said it all in one breath, then calmly sipped her tea.

And the worst part? Everything she said was true. I'd trusted her from the first day I saw her, without ever stopping to think about why.

And the "mess cleaning" part? Also true. I've gotten into fights with customers—even gangsters—and always waited for payback that never came. Maybe she really did handle it behind the scenes.

I didn't know what to say, so I just sat there while she kept drinking tea. Wait… isn't she drinking too much? Nah, better to keep my mouth shut. No need to let her know every thought in my head.

I also realized she's not as cold as I thought. I always saw her as some professional woman who never slipped up, who only cared about work and nothing else. But this side of her… it's kind of nice.

"Let's go shopping for some groceries. I'll cook something for you myself," I said after she finished the whole teapot.

Hopefully, she won't get sick from drinking that much.

She nodded. I grabbed my credit card, made a "ladies first" gesture, and we stepped outside. After locking the apartment door, we walked to the supermarket just down the street"
