With Ajak's guidance, Rory slowly learned how to channel the cosmic energy within him.
As he opened his eyes, the two golden energy spheres gathered in his hands began to change shape.
First, they turned into a dagger. Then, the blade lengthened into a rapier. The rapier widened and extended further, merging both hands' energy into a massive golden greatsword, eerily similar in shape to the "Gazi Sword."
Out of sheer curiosity, Rory gave it a slight swing, immediately slicing the coffee table and even its base clean in half.
"This is similar to Thena's powers… strong offensive combat abilities," Rory remarked.
But that made him pause. Weapon summoning wasn't what he was after. He wanted to fly.
He immediately dismissed the glowing blade and asked, "If I wanted to use cosmic energy to fly, how would I do that?"
Ajak shook her head. "I only know how to guide cosmic energy's flow."
"…The hell?" Rory muttered in disbelief.
Weapon manifestation was nice and all, but totally unnecessary, he could just forge something from Vibranium if he wanted. What he really wanted… was to fly!
Rory stayed at Ajak's place for two days before returning to the military base.
During those two days, Ajak told him more about the history of the Eternals and stories from other planets across the universe.
Rory also briefly considered changing Ajak's fate… but after thinking it through, ultimately decided against it.
Ajak wanted to save Earth, sure. But she also wanted to do it without interfering with Tiamut's Celestial awakening. A win-win scenario.
Problem was: such a scenario didn't exist. If Tiamut woke up, Earth was done for, no exceptions.
Given the choice between saving Earth or allowing the Celestial to emerge, Ajak would ultimately side with the Celestials. She had made similar decisions in the past.
And since she was the only one who knew the full truth, if she had truly wanted to save Earth, she wouldn't still be hesitating. That's why… she had to die, and it had to be at the hands of Ikaris, the knock-off Superman.
Only then would Sersi choose humanity's side, and save the planet.
While staying with Ajak, Rory fully mastered the use of cosmic energy.
He could conjure all kinds of weapons at will, golden and gleaming. These energy-forged weapons were astonishingly durable, even stronger than Vibranium, and sharp beyond belief.
They also looked amazing. Shiny and brilliant. As Rory became more skilled, he even started engraving patterns and glyphs into them, giving them an elegant, high-class feel.
Three days after Rory left, Ajak received another visitor.
It was Ikaris, one of the ten Eternals. The so-called knock-off Superman, with powers of flight, energy beams from his eyes, super strength, and endurance. Among the ten, he was the strongest in combat.
He brought Ajak to a location where Deviants, believed to have been wiped out centuries ago, had mysteriously resurfaced.
It was then that Ajak realized Ikaris had brought her here… to die.
The reason was simple: Ikaris was loyal to the Celestials. He wouldn't allow anyone to interfere with the Emergence. Not even his fellow Eternals.
Their ideologies clashed. And Ikaris, being who he was, chose the most direct solution to the problem.
He didn't kill her himself, but threw her to the Deviants, and stood by as they tore her apart.
On the military plane back, Rory sat quietly, still feeling the cosmic energy inside him. He was curious to see what other abilities it could unlock.
According to Ajak, cosmic energy existed everywhere. The Eternals were simply conduits, converting the unseen energy into something visible and usable.
Midway through the flight, just as the plane entered Ohio airspace, the aircraft suddenly shook violently, then spiraled downward, out of control.
Alarms blared in the cabin. The pilot frantically called ground control.
Just before impact, the plane's descent abruptly slowed, then gently landed in a field of wild grass.
Boom, clang!
The cabin door burst open, ripped clean off and sent flying dozens of meters away.
A woman glowing with radiant golden light floated through the entrance.
It was Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers.
She turned to Rory, hovered to stand directly in front of him, and said coldly, "We're not on military base grounds anymore. Let's see what you've got this time."
Rory smirked. "Technically, the inside of this aircraft still counts as military territory. Congratulations, Carol, now you've successfully brought more trouble down on your friends."
He unbuckled his seatbelt and walked up to her, still smiling.
"And one more thing, I want to clear something up. I've never been afraid of you… so let's not kid ourselves."
Carol narrowed her eyes and scoffed, raising her hand to grab him.
But Rory was faster.
So fast, in fact, that even Carol didn't see it coming, until a solid punch slammed directly into her chest.
BOOM!
Still frozen in a punching stance, Rory watched as Carol was launched through the cockpit's front windshield.
Carol had combat experience, solid defensive abilities, and powerful strength and energy attacks, but her speed and reaction time were just average.
CRACK!
Rory leapt after her, crashing through the cabin wall and out into the open.
Carol had just climbed back to her feet when she saw Rory casually approach. Her body surged with golden light as she flew low across the ground, aiming straight for him.
But Rory stood calmly in place. As Carol closed in, just inches from his face, a giant golden sword materialized in Rory's hands.
BOOM!
Carol had arrived fast, but she left faster. Rory's sword smacked her clean out of the air, sending her crashing through the dirt and carving a long trench into the ground.
Rory scoffed. "That's it?"
Dazed, Carol scrambled back to her feet. She glanced at Rory's empty hands, but she could've sworn he had a weapon just now…
Unwilling to give up, but far more cautious, she charged again.
SWISH!
The massive golden sword reappeared in Rory's hands.
This time, Carol was ready. She raised an arm to block the blade, and used her other hand to fire an energy blast at close range.
But just as the energy pulse lit up, a massive golden rectangular shield formed in Rory's other hand.
FWOOM!
The energy blast dissipated the moment it struck the shield, leaving only harmless residual sparks.
"Carol," Rory said flatly, "what made you think you could beat me alone?"
CLANG!
Rory clapped his hands together, fusing two energy streams into one, a super-greatsword over two meters long formed instantly.
Carol flinched and began to retreat.
But Rory was faster.
Charging forward on foot, he chased her down, giant sword raised high.
BOOM!
The sword slammed her out of the sky.
And that was only the beginning. Rory raised the sword again, and struck.
BOOM!
BOOM!
Carol tried to escape, but each time she rose, Rory's sword slammed her back down. After several bone-rattling blows, her energy glow began to flicker. She was now lying in a crater more than a meter deep, carved by Rory's relentless strikes.
Mud and debris flew everywhere. Carol lay in the hole, completely battered.
Rory stood at the edge, smirking. "You're not so tough after all."
Thanks to the Celestial gene, Rory hadn't gotten physically stronger, but he now had many more tools in his arsenal. He wasn't just some brute with fists anymore, he had offense, defense, and versatility.
Carol's whole body ached, as if she'd been hit by a truck. But just as Rory raised his sword for another blow, she gritted her teeth, and fired a massive energy blast from both hands.
It didn't knock Rory back, but it did stop the incoming sword.
Taking the opportunity, Carol shot out of the crater like a rocket, desperate to put some distance between herself and Rory's blade.
