Chapter 20 - The Unchained Class

Inside the void, Freddy calmly floated in place, browsing through the game forum.

His eyes slowly reading through different threads as his mind absorbed different knowledge and information.

His expression suddenly froze as a particular thread caught his attention.

Thread: Why does this game hurt so much??

Posted by Deadinside69 – 5 hours ago

Bro, is it just me or does getting hit actually feel like getting hit? A wolf bit me and I swear I felt my ribs crack. I swear, a boar also rammed me a while back and I legit thought I broke my spine. This game needs a warning label.

•Sweatlord:

Idiot, check your pain sensitivity setting.

•PixelSamurai:

Yeah. Go to settings, immersion and pain sensitivity. Default is 100%.

•HardcoreChad:

Real men deal with the pain. Pain=immersion.

•Casualpayer24:

Only masochists play at 100%, even pro-players only go as high as 40%.

-----------------------------------------

Reading through the thread, Freddy hurriedly called up the system interface.

Having read through the whole beginner's guidebook thread for new players, Freddy could now easily navigate the interface.

After entering settings, immersion and pain sensitivity, the sight he saw made his eyebrows twitch fiercely.

[Pain sensitivity- 100%]

'Pain sensitivity... One hundred percent. No wonder it felt as if my bones were snapping every time those wolves bit me.' Freddy felt like crying.

Lifting his hands, he hurriedly dragged the slider down, watching the percentage dip until it stopped at 40%.

'At least now I won't be rolling on the ground in pain every time someone pokes me with a stick. Everyone else is playing a game, and I've been bleeding in a warzone.' He let out a dry laugh, half amused, half bitter.

After turning down his pain sensitivity, Freddy flexed his fingers and clenched his fist. A faint grin tugging at the corner of his lips..

Moving on to scroll down the forum, he saw another interesting thread.

Thread: Did you guys see the fight against that party from Virtual Victors and that Storm Caller party?

-----------------------------------------

Curious, Freddy leaned in closer as the words unraveled into a heated back-and-forth.

-----------------------------------------

•VainLord:

Yeah, Storm Caller freaking demolished them Thumper party guys.

•WinnyDoddle:

Their leader Razor Shot is really badass. His shooting speed and accuracy is insane.

•ILoveCandy:

Don't forget that shaman, Billy the kid and that assassin. Their whole team is totally cool man.

•DontCallMe:

As expected of the team who discovered Clover city's first dungeon, the goblin cave. They're gonna rise fast, mark my words.

•Phoenix:

Not necessarily, Thumper party is under Virtual Victors and there's no way they would let this slide.

-----------------------------------------

The comments had already spiralled into a heated argument, however Freddy wasn't paying attention to any of it, a smile stretched across his face.

'Razor Shot, that's definitely Kelv. He's already in Clover City and seems to be doing pretty well. And that Billy the kid, sounds so much like Willy's name, I'll have to ask him.' as he thought of this, his smile suddenly turned to a frown.

'Seems his former guild isn't letting up, I've gotta hurry up and get to clover city as soon as possible.'

Beep! Beep! Beep!

His line of thoughts was suddenly interrupted by a beeping sound.

Looking up, he saw the respawn timer counting down the last ten seconds.

"About time." Freddy mumbled. "This time, we play it right."

He was just about to close the forum when a new thread popped up.

[Thread: Gladiator players –Can we really equip any gear?]

As soon as he saw the thread, he moved his finger to click on it just as the respawn timer hit zero, and a dark vortex sucked him in.

Regaining his vision, he saw himself rising slowly from the ground in the respawn area, which happened to be the town square.

At the same time, a notification floated into view.

[You have respawned. Death Penalty applied: Level -1]

Freddy, ignoring the notification hurriedly moved to a quiet corner and opened up the thread about gladiators again.

Thread: Gladiator players –Can we really equip any gear?

Posted by NoobBreaker99 – 2 hours ago

Okay, so… I just tested something super weird. My Gladiator character can literally equip a staff, bow, AND heavy armor.

The system didn't block me. Nothing. I thought it was a bug until I checked with my friend (a Cleric). She tried to give me her gear, and I was able to equip it too.

Other classes get the "Class Restriction" warning if they try this, but Gladiator? Nope. It just lets you wear or wield whatever.

The downside is… I don't seem to get any class-based passives from those items. Like, I used a bow and I could fire arrows, but no Archery passive triggered.

Comments:

•BladeHand:

Wait, you're saying gladiator's can put on any armor and weird any weapon they like? That's broken if true.

•OldVet:

Not broken. Jack-of-all-trades, master of none. They can wear it, sure, but they don't get the skill synergy other classes have. You'd still get outclassed by specialists.

•DivineQueen: LMAO who would main Gladiator? Sounds like a garbage class for tryhards.

•HiddenUser77:

Don't be so sure. Arcadia's Dev don't do 'garbage' classes.

-----------------------------------------

For a moment, Freddy just stood there blinking. His mind working hard to process the information he'd just read.

"...No restrictions?" he muttered.

His mind quickly replayed the fight with Lord Awesomness – Him disarming and snatching Lord Awesomness sword mid-fight.

"No wonder, makes a lot of sense now. This Gladiator class, it's not a class for keyboard-mashers. It's a survival-of-the-fittest class." Freddy mumbled, stroking his jaw in thought.

"That's why most players complain about the class being too hard to play. If one doesn't know even a little about fighting in reality, it'll be almost impossible for them to play this class."

Freddy stood alone in the corner mumbling and rambling, drawing strange gazes from the NPCs and even some of the players.

"... I think I'm beginning to get what that Nora lady meant by 'not everything is as simple as it seems'. This also means I can equip those gear I got from Grizzler and Double Son..."

"What are you doing rambling at the side of the street, mister Aegis?" Freddy was still in the middle of mumbling to himself when a voice startled him from behind.

Whirling around, he saw Ellie the tailor standing with a basket in her hand and a warm smile on her face.
