Chapter 81 - The Offer/STF HQ Tour

The courthouse was collapsing into chaos.

Smoke lingered in the air. Broken walls. Flickering lights struggling to stay alive.

Caden struggled to push himself up from the rubble,

Then a figure dropped from above.

Clean. Controlled. Effortless.

Ian landed between Caden and the remaining threat, his presence alone shifting the atmosphere. The fight was already over, but somehow… it felt like it had never even begun.

Caden stared.

Ian turned to him calmly.

"So… Caden."

His voice carried authority, but not hostility.

"I know you thought you were sneaky."

A faint smirk.

"But we've been watching you for days."

Caden didn't respond.

Ian stepped closer, looking around at the aftermath—the freed hostages, the fallen gang members, the damage.

"We've seen what you built here."

He paused.

"You're not in trouble."

That caught Caden off guard.

Ian continued,

"We're here to offer you something."

Renn Varos stepped forward beside him.

"A position in the STF."

Caden blinked.

"What?"

Ian's voice stayed steady.

"We need you to help us build a new division."

Renn added,

"Tomorrow, we'll come by your house. We'll explain everything to your parents—call it a work-study program."

He folded his arms.

"And we'll keep your identity safe. While you're gone, STF personnel will monitor your city… keep your work going."

Caden stood there, still processing.

"…Okay."

He glanced back at the broken courthouse.

"Let me go home. I need to pack."

That night,

Caden burst into the bunker. Eli spun around in his chair.

"What happened,?"

"They found me," Caden said.

Eli froze.

"…What?"

"The STF. Ian. Renn Varos. All of them."

Eli's eyes widened.

"And?"

"They're offering me a spot."

A pause.

Then Eli stood up instantly.

"No way."

Caden nodded slowly.

"And they want me to help build a new division."

Eli shook his head in disbelief.

"That's insane."

Then, almost as an afterthought—

"…They talked to me too."

Caden blinked.

"What?"

Eli smirked slightly.

"Intelligence division."

Silence.

Then both of them laughed, half excitement, half disbelief.

"We're actually doing this," Caden said.

"Yeah," Eli replied. "By tomorrow… we're in the STF."

Later that night, Caden stood in his room.

His suitcase lay open on the bed.

He packed quickly, whatever clothes he could find, not really thinking about what he was grabbing.

This didn't feel real.

One week ago, he was just trying to keep his city safe.

Now,

He was leaving.

The next morning.

Caden stood at his window, watching.

Waiting. Then, a vehicle pulled up outside.

Black. Sleek. Marked clearly:

STF Ian and Renn stepped out. Caden grabbed his suitcase and was already at the door before they knocked. His parents opened it. Ian spoke calmly, explaining everything just as promised.

At first,

Hesitation.Confusion. Fear. But then, understanding. Caden was seventeen. And this… this was bigger than anything they could hold him back from. His mom hugged him tightly.

"Be safe."

"I will."

His dad nodded firmly.

"Make us proud."

Caden smiled.

"I will."

He stepped into the vehicle. Eli was already inside. They looked at each other.

No words needed. The doors shut. And the world they knew Was behind them. The ship lifted. Within minutes, they were leaving the atmosphere. Caden pressed his hand lightly against the window.

Then,

Space.

Fifteen minutes later,

They arrived.

Tenrihines.

Caden and Eli leaned forward, eyes wide.

Massive structures stretched across the horizon. Ships moved constantly. Light reflected off metal and glass in ways that didn't even seem possible.

They descended toward the STF Headquarters.

A colossal structure.

Ships flew overhead in organized patterns. Giant gates opened as they approached. Holographic banners floated in the air, displaying symbols of the Galactic Empire.

The scale of it all,

Was overwhelming.

The doors of the transport sealed behind them with a quiet hiss.

Caden barely noticed.

He was too focused on what stood in front of him.

The STF Headquarters.

It didn't feel like a building; it felt like a world. Ships moved constantly overhead, engines humming as they lifted off into the sky or descended toward the massive landing platforms. Holographic banners floated in the air, shifting with symbols and insignias he didn't recognize.

For a moment, he just stood there.

"…This place is huge," Eli muttered beside him.

Caden nodded slowly, still taking it in.

Ian stepped ahead of them, hands in his pockets, completely unfazed by the scale of it all.

"Come on," he said. "You'll get used to it."

They followed him past a checkpoint where soldiers barely glanced up, as if people arriving like this were an everyday thing. Massive doors slid open, and they stepped inside.

The lobby alone was enough to make Caden stop again.

It stretched farther than he could see at first glance. Banners hung from the ceiling like something out of history, and at the center of the room, a massive table projected a holographic map, entire planets and star systems shifting slowly in midair.

People moved everywhere.

Soldiers. Officers. Support staff.

No one stood still.

Eli leaned slightly toward him.

"Yeah… we're not in Graven Hollow anymore."

Caden let out a quiet breath.

"Not even close."

Ian didn't slow down. He led them straight through the lobby and toward a bank of elevators.

"You'll see why this place runs the way it does soon enough," he said as the doors opened.

They stepped inside, and the elevator shot upward smoothly.

For a few seconds, there was silence.

Then Ian glanced back at them.

"Let's get you settled first. Work can wait."

The doors opened to a quieter floor.

Not empty, but calmer.

Ian led them down a hallway before pushing open a set of doors.

Inside,

Rows of beds stretched across the room, stacked neatly, each space clean and organized.

Caden looked around.

"So… this is where we stay?"

Ian nodded.

"For now."

He leaned casually against the doorway.

"You're not high enough rank for private rooms yet. But honestly, you won't notice it much. Most people here are barely around, they're either training or out on missions."

Eli dropped his bag lightly onto one of the lower bunks.

"…Still better than what I expected."

Caden smirked a little.

"Yeah… same."

They didn't stay long.

Ian motioned for them to follow and led them around the corner.

The next space felt more personal, rows of lockers, gear compartments, and neatly arranged storage areas.

"This is yours," Ian said. "Think of it like your closet."

He gestured toward a section of open lockers.

"You keep your gear here. Outfits, equipment, whatever you need."

Beyond that, steam drifted faintly from another room.

"Showers are back there."

Eli nodded, taking mental notes.

Caden just glanced around quietly, already trying to picture himself living here.

The mood shifted again as they moved deeper into the floor.

Ian pushed open another set of doors,

And suddenly, the space exploded with energy.

Laughter. Music. Movement.

Caden blinked.

"What… is this?"

Ian smiled slightly.

"This," he said, "is where people breathe."

The room was massive, far bigger than anything they had seen so far. A pool stretched across one side, while groups of soldiers gathered around tables, screens, and games. Some played pool, others relaxed on couches, and a few leaned casually at the bar.

No one looked stressed.

No one looked like they were part of a war.

"They come here between missions," Ian continued. "Clear their heads. Remind themselves they're still human."

Eli looked around, impressed.

"…I didn't expect this."

Caden nodded.

"Me neither."

They moved again, passing through quieter corridors until they reached the training areas.

The gym was intense.

Weights slammed. Equipment moved. People trained hard.

No wasted motion.

"This is where you get stronger," Ian said simply.

From there, he guided them into the recovery wing, cooler, calmer, almost silent. Medical pods hummed softly, and soldiers rested.

"And this is where you fix whatever you just broke."

Caden let out a small laugh under his breath.

"Good balance."

They didn't stop long before moving again.

This time, the room they entered felt different.

Bigger.

Structured.

Rows of seats curved upward in a wide arc, all facing a massive holographic display at the front.

It felt like a theater.

Or a command center.

"We use this for large operations," Ian explained, his voice echoing slightly in the open space. "Briefings. Strategy. Planning."

Caden imagined the room filled.

Full of voices. Decisions. War.

"…Yeah," he muttered. "I can see that."

They continued on, and the atmosphere shifted again as they entered a more industrial area.

Tools. Sparks. Movement.

Engineers and mechanics worked nonstop on weapons, armor, and vehicles.

"If anything breaks," Ian said, "this is where it gets fixed. Or replaced."

Eli's eyes lit up slightly.

"…I might spend some time here."

Ian glanced at him.

"Yeah. I figured."

By the time they reached the final area, the sound hit them first.

Engines.

Movement.

Voices calling orders.

The doors opened,

And the hangar stretched out in front of them.

Massive.

Ships coming and going constantly. Soldiers loading up. Others returning.

Through the open structure, the mountains beyond Tenrihines stood tall, the sky glowing with movement from ships overhead.

Caden stepped forward slightly without realizing it.

"…This is where everything happens."

Ian nodded.

"Yeah."

He let them take it in for a second.

"This is where you leave. And where you come back."

Eventually, Ian led them away from the noise and into the canteen.

It was calmer here.

Normal, almost.

Food trays. Conversations. People just… sitting.

He turned back to them.

"Get something to eat. Get settled."

Then, just like that,

He walked off.

Caden and Eli sat down across from each other.

Neither of them spoke right away.

They just looked around.

Everything felt… bigger.

Different.

Real.

Caden leaned back slightly.

"…We're actually here."

Eli nodded, a small grin forming.

"Yeah."

A pause.

Then,

"We made it."
