Ignoring the pain in her foot, she opened the pink suitcase and found all her identification documents and heaved a sigh of relief.
Yet she didn't stop there; instead, she checked her bedroom to find anything sharp.
Her bedroom in the Almond family was a typical fairytale princess bedroom. All the items were in shades of pink, which was a bit nauseating for Lana.
After a long search, her attention was drawn to the glass vase. In a swift move, she gripped the handle and smashed the vase on the table, creating a crisp sound of glass shattering.
A piece of glass grazed Lana's hand, producing a long yet shallow cut from which the blood started to seep out.
Paying no heed to the injury, Lana gripped the neck of the broken vase and pointed the jagged neck ring toward the door. Her other hand gripped the handle of the suitcase.
Just then, the door of her room was opened. The servants rushed into the room intending to catch Lana; however, all of them froze when they saw Lana holding a sharp object.
Head Butler Frances's expression turned gloomy, yet he lifted his hand and said in a respectful voice,
"Miss Lana, please put down the sharp object; it might hurt someone, and you will land in jail."
Lana's stance was defensive, but the words that tumbled out of her mouth were infuriating and offensive,
"Frances, stop pretending. You know and even I know, once the weapons leave my hand, your b*tchy masters might call the servants to hold me down and take revenge on behalf of their dear sister."
Head Butler Frances's gaze turned cold, and his dark eyes stared at Lana venomously,
"Miss Lana, you made a mistake; it's natural for you to repent. Once you get over your punishment, you will still be able to rent a house in a safe zone, otherwise..."
His words were cryptic, but Lana understood everything.
Many centuries ago, mysterious portals started to open all over the world. Everyone suspected it was monster portals, and some even guessed that maybe those portals were opened by aliens, and it was a pathway to other universes.
Yet those portals closed after 10 minutes, and the government forcefully wiped off all the information about the portal, naming it a mysterious and unknown phenomenon.
At first, nothing happened, but as time passed, more and more people started to die, while the portal's frequency increased rapidly.
Soon, a pattern was discovered, and everyone realized that the people dying... looked possessed.
At the same time, an unknown force named Aether appeared. Some people who could sense it became superhumans, while others who couldn't slowly felt the presence of it too.
It was only then did the people realized that those seemingly harmless portals... were in fact releasing ghosts in their world.
Many new professions appeared, civilization changed, and even the living conditions of humans changed drastically.
As many places became unlivable, safe zones appeared. A zone, no ghost can enter. A zone, hardly ever breached by any ghost. And a zone, where living became a luxury.
Now, head butler Frances was threatening Lana. If she didn't listen to his words, the Almond family will make sure Lana doesn't have any place to live in the safe zone.
Lana's eyes flickered. Unfortunately, she wasn't an exorcist, nor any type of cultivator. Her only talent was in weapon-making.
Facing the dilemma, an idea sparked in Lana's mind, and she suddenly proposed,
"Alright. However, if your young masters dare to leave even a single mark on me, I won't leave the Almond family. After all, I may become disabled and need the Almond family to support. The only problem is... your newly acknowledged young miss might be disgusted by my existence in the house."
Lana pretended to show a smug expression. According to the timeline, everyone expected Lana to cling to the Almond family and Lana in her previous life indeed did that.
Not for fame, not for money, and neither for so-called craving familial love.
It was about survival. In her previous life, Lana had stayed behind with the Almond family because she knew...only by staying in Almond Mansion, will she survive.
It proved quite true. Till the time she stayed in the Almond mansion, she was never possessed by ghost.
However, in this life... Lana didn't want to stay behind.
Head butler Frances's face turned grim, and he was about to retort when, another voice mocked,
"Still so disgusting?"
