Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

Nagato stopped outside a dilapidated looking apartment in a poorly lit hallway and knocked. His only answer was the muffled loud music coming from inside. He sighed and let his focus move away from what his physical eyes could see right in front of him, and suddenly he was a crow flying above the building.

He crowed and flapped towards the window of the apartment his main body stood outside and flew right in.

Soon, a disheveled, lanky man opened the door, spewing expletives and still being peppered by the crow.

"Doc."

With his one word, the man became silent. The crow came and landed on Nagato's shoulder as he took a look inside the home clinic, and regretted just how much detail his Rinnegan could take in. It took a force of will for him to soften his voice.

"Why are you still not in the clinic, Doc?"

"Hey, assistant boy. You can't put a schedule on my genius!"

Assistant. For now. It would look odd if a teenager opened his own business while still at school. And besides, while Arasaka Academy allowed their students to get internships, a full-time job was prohibited.

"Maybe I can't. But how will you pay for the clinic's rent if the patients stop coming?"

The old man grumbled at that, put on a dirty doctor's coat and followed him outside.

"Fine, fine, choom. Just keep the damn bird away from me."

"Itachi," He spoke for show, and had the crow fly back outside. It had become a habit for him to always keep a summon watching his surroundings from up high. Just like he had one for each of his parents.

"I don't know why I even bothered to rent out a separate clinic when my home clinic is good enough for all the work that's worth doing." Doc grumbled as they took the elevator downstairs and went to the clinic he had genjutsu-ed the ripperdoc into renting out on the ground floor of his apartment building.

"Perhaps it's the same reason that the city authorities let you operate as a doctor."

It was surprisingly easy to get Doc a real license. If they had had enough money, he wouldn't even have needed the genjutsu on the bureaucrat.

"Hehe, of course they did! They couldn't afford to ignore a genius of my capability!"

He was spared further ramblings as David came running out of the surgery clinic.

"Hey, chooms! Where have you guys been? The patients are waiting, and Doc you wouldn't open pick-up my call!"

There were over 20 people crowding the reception area of the clinic, and in between were almost a dozen patients with differing levels of urgency. He let the two argue with each other as they started working.

Nagato stood besides Doc and helped administer anesthetics and other pre-surgery requirements, while David helped the people in and out the surgery room and helped more physically. And all the while, Nagato's eyes observed Doc as he switched between his different chrome arms and the intricacies of how they worked. As for the medical techniques that were being used, he had already mastered them.
