"My teacher's Water Release…?"
Hiruzen Sarutobi was about to refuse, but he remained silent. He picked up his pipe, ready to take a puff, but then noticed two children were still there, so he could only put it down helplessly.
"Alright, I will send someone to teach you the Nidaime(2nd)-sama's Water Release, but only for one week. How much you learn will depend on your own comprehension."
"Huh?"
Ren was startled and looked up at Hiruzen Sarutobi. Ren hadn't expected Hiruzen Sarutobi to agree, so he was surprised that he actually did! Although it was only for one week, Ren was confident that with his comprehension, learning three or two techniques shouldn't be a problem.
"Thank you, Hokage-sama."
"Mm."
Hiruzen Sarutobi nodded, his gaze turning to Uchiha Ryufeng.
"Hokage-sama, I don't want anything."
Unexpectedly, Ryufeng had no requests. Thinking about it, it made sense; as the eldest son of the Uchiha, Konoha's top clan and the Great Elder, Ryufeng truly didn't need anything.
"How about this: I will assign a Jonin skilled in Fire Release to instruct you for one week, as your reward."
Hiruzen Sarutobi pondered for a moment before deciding. He clearly knew that the Uchiha clan was vast and wealthy and didn't lack such a reward, but he also proposed a request that the current Ryufeng might need.
"Thank you, Hokage-sama."
Ryufeng's eyes also lit up. Although Jonin skilled in Fire Release were common in the Uchiha clan, they were usually either on missions or on their way to missions. Occasional pointers had little effect, but professional one-on-one guidance was different. Ryufeng was confident that after this instruction, his strength would see a significant leap in the short term.
"As for your team, there are no available Jonin instructors for now. You will temporarily form a two-person team. Later, a Jonin instructor will be assigned to you. Genin only need to complete a certain number of D-rank missions each month. To accept C-rank missions or higher, you need to go through the Hokage Building's review and undertake them as a team with other groups. Any problems?"
"Yes, Hokage-sama! X2"
The two quickly responded. This was good too, as it meant less restraint and more freedom, though the danger level was also higher. After all, without a Jonin instructor to rely on, they would have to stand on the front lines and face the most dangerous things themselves. Besides, Hiruzen Sarutobi was only asking symbolically; there was no way he would change his decision just because two Genin disagreed.
Hiruzen Sarutobi nodded and coughed. Two Anbu appeared before him, kneeling on one knee, awaiting Hiruzen Sarutobi's orders.
"Elephant, take Uchiha Ryufeng to Sarutobi Shinnosuke. Have him instruct Uchiha Ryufeng for one week. Count it as a B-rank mission for him."
"Yes!"
One of the Anbu responded, stood up, and walked to Uchiha Ryufeng's side. Ryufeng glanced at Ren, then nodded to the Anbu. The two instantly vanished.
"Clear, you are responsible for taking Hoshimi Ren to Genin Maruboshi Kosuke. Have him instruct Hoshimi Ren in Water Release for one week. For this week, let him teach as much as he wants; how much he comprehends is up to him."
"Yes!"
The remaining Anbu responded and walked to Ren's side. Ren bowed to Hiruzen Sarutobi.
"Goodbye, Hokage-sama."
Then he turned to the Anbu next to him.
"I'll trouble you."
The Anbu nodded, and the two also instantly vanished from the Hokage Office, leaving only Hiruzen Sarutobi sitting back at his desk, a trace of recollection flashing in his eyes as he looked at the spot where the two had stood.
"Consider it a small compensation for this child. Your politeness truly resembles yours, Miaten…"
Coming back to his senses, Hiruzen Sarutobi picked up his pen and continued working on the mountain of paperwork on his desk…
…
The Anbu first took Ren to the Mission CeCentreThere, they checked with the staff and found that Maruboshi Kosuke was currently on a D-rank mission, clearing weeds from Training Ground Six.
The two immediately headed to Training Ground Five. Upon arrival, they immediately spotted a figure bending over and pulling weeds in a corner. As they approached, the figure had already sensed someone nearing and looked up, confused, at the two in front of him.
"Maruboshi Kosuke, by Hokage-sama's order, you are to instruct Hoshimi Ren in Water Release for one week. Teach him with all your heart; how much he learns in one week is up to him."
After the Anbu finished speaking, he used the Instantaneous Body Technique to leave, leaving the two staring at each other.
"Hello, I am Hoshimi Ren. Please take a break, I'll do it. It will be quick."
Ren was the first to break the silence. He stepped forward, bowed to Maruboshi Kosuke, and then gestured for him to rest while he walked to the weeds, squatted down, and began pulling them.
"Then I'll trouble you, young man."
Maruboshi Kosuke didn't decline. He walked to a shady spot and sat down, smiling as he watched Ren pull weeds.
There wasn't much left, and soon Ren finished. He walked back to Maruboshi Kosuke.
"Hello, Kosuke-senpai, I am Hoshimi Ren. Please guide me in the future."
Ren smiled while bowing.
"Hello, young man. Let's talk as we walk."
Ren nodded, and the two began walking out of the training ground.
"Since Hokage-sama wants me to teach you Water Release for one week, let's start tomorrow. It's too late today. Let's meet here at 8 AM tomorrow."
Maruboshi Kosuke smiled and pointed to the sky. Unbeknownst to them, dusk had already fallen. Winter was approaching, and the days were getting shorter while the nights grew longer.
"Yes, then I'll trouble you starting tomorrow, Kosuke-senpai."
"It's nothing. You go back and rest well to prepare for tomorrow. The Mission Hall hasn't closed yet, I need to submit my mission. See you tomorrow, young man."
"Alright, goodbye, Kosuke-senpai."
Maruboshi Kosuke patted Ren's shoulder and walked towards the Hokage Building. Ren bowed behind Maruboshi Kosuke before turning to leave.
What Ren didn't know was that Maruboshi Kosuke, ahead of him, paused, turned to glance at Ren, then chuckled to himself before continuing forward.
"A polite child."
…
"D-rank mission 'Clean Training Ground' has been confirmed submitted. Someone will come to inspect it later. If there are no issues, we will issue the mission reward."
"Okay, thank you."
After Maruboshi Kosuke thanked them, he walked out of the Hokage Building. Just as he was about to head home, a familiar voice came from behind him.
"Kosuke, long time no see."
Upon hearing this, Maruboshi Kosuke was struck by lightning. He turned around and bowed to a shadowy spot, respectfully saying,
"Hokage-sama."
A figure emerged from the shadows, it was none other than Third Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen.
"Teach that child well. If he can learn it, there's no harm in teaching him everything."
"Yes."
Although Maruboshi Kosuke was surprised, he suppressed his doubts and chose to obey the order.
"Kosuke, are you still unwilling to become a Jonin? With your strength, you could do so much more for Konoha."
Hiruzen Sarutobi pulled down his Hokage hat, his gaze fixed on the man before him.
"No, I already decided in front of Nidaime-sama that I would only be a Genin my entire life, to slowly atone for the sins I committed."
"You… Sigh."
Hiruzen Sarutobi felt a mix of frustration and a sudden sigh. a a
"As you wish. That child's parents sacrificed themselves for Konoha. In these children, I see Konoha's future."
"Future… huh?"
Maruboshi Kosuke fell silent, while Hiruzen Sarutobi had quietly departed, leaving Maruboshi Kosuke alone in the darkness, deep in thought…
