On the far side of the forest, Akeno's squad clashed with Tosca's team, lightning and steel flashing through the trees.
Akeno raised her hand, fingers crackling with energy. "Azure lightning!"
Bolts of power arced overhead, crashing down on Tosca and her allies.
Tosca stood firm, a faint smile on her lips. Her barrier shimmered, flawless. "It's no use, Akeno-san. Your lightning can't touch my boundary."
She'd conjured her [Innate Barrier], shielding herself and Minamikaze. Unlike ordinary defensive spells, Tosca's Sacred Gear was leagues stronger—Akeno's attacks fizzled on its surface, leaving not a scratch.
"Extend—Iron Staff!"
Mira's petite form darted from the shadows, her staff telescoping outward with a shrill whistle. She swung, carving through the air.
CRASH!
Akeno leapt aside, barely dodging. The staff smashed into an ancient tree, splintering it at the trunk and sending it crashing down.
Mira looked like a child, but her blows hit like a wrecking ball. Akeno's heart skipped—taking a direct hit would be a disaster.
Ni and Li exchanged a look, nodded, and charged, claws flashing.
She beckoned. "Come at me together. Show me how much you've grown."
Kuroka's smile widened. "Naughty kittens get punished, you know."
Ni and Li squared off, cat-paw gloves raised, eyes fierce.
"That's right! You're the enemy now—we have to beat you, nya!"
"Big Sis, we're not the same as yesterday, nya!"
Kuroka looked down, grinning. "Ni, Li… As my disciples, are you really going to rebel against me?"
With a leap, she darted toward Gasper's battlefield. Ni and Li didn't try to stop her.
Koneko glanced over—Gasper was still being chased, shrieking. She twitched, then nodded. "Got it, Kuroka-neesan."
"Shirone, go help the vampire kid. I'll handle these two silly cats."
Perched on a high branch, Koneko clenched her fists, ready to jump—until Kuroka stopped her.
"Koneko-chan, come down and fight us, nya!"
"Big Sis, running won't help!"
In perfect sync, Koneko and Kuroka leapt skyward. The spot they'd occupied exploded as Ni and Li's attacks struck, leaving two deep craters.
"Invincible Nyan Nyan Punch!"
Back to back, Koneko and Kuroka watched the shadows, wary. Red and blue blurs flashed around them—Ni and Li, their former disciples, circling like predators.
"Hehe… Shirone's concern makes me so happy, nya."
"Sis, be careful."
"Three of Tenra-sama's [Pawns], retired!"
Cries rang out as the barrage overwhelmed the trio.

"For my master Rias's victory… sorry!"
She raised a hand, summoning a magic circle. Thousands of light arrows appeared, poised to strike.
"Of course. You've always looked after me—I'd like to return the favor. But first, let's finish this match."
"Really?" Their eyes lit up; Rossweisse's reputation as a magic expert was well known.
Rossweisse smiled, lowering her shields. "You girls have good technique, but you're burning through too much magic. If you're interested, I can teach you how to fight more efficiently after this."
After repeated failures, the three attackers finally stopped, breathing hard.
"Rossweisse-san, you're incredible. Our attacks do nothing."
"Pant… pant…"
Twin shields of light hovered before her, deflecting every assault.
In another part of the forest, Maru, Bülent, and Surya unleashed wave after wave of magical attacks on Rossweisse, who stood at the center, calm and unruffled.

Chainsaws raised, the twins resumed their wild chase.
Irina was off-limits. The other big sisters were way too strong. That left only Gasper as their prey.
"Yeah! He's our only hope!"
Neru shivered, recalling past "tickle torture" and spankings. "Right… let's stick to chasing Gasper."
Iru shot her a look. "Are you stupid? You want Tenra-sama to punish us again? You'd actually attack Irina-neesama?"
Neru's gaze flicked to Irina, who stood off to the side, uninvolved. She nudged Iru. "Hey, how about we go after Irina-neesama instead?"
After endless pursuit, the sisters paused, catching their breath. Gasper was a master at fleeing—hopeless at everything else, but impossible to catch.
"Damn Gasper, always running away."
"Pant… pant…"
Elsewhere, Iru and Neru chased Gasper through the undergrowth, chainsaws roaring.
"Ahhh! I don't want to be chopped up!"
"Stop right there! We'll slice you to bits!"
"Ha ha ha! Don't run, Gasper!"
"Now, Mira. Let's see which is stronger—your iron staff, or my holy spear."
She turned to face Mira, whose grip tightened on her staff.
Akeno listened to the host's announcement, her voice soft. "I'll apologize to them when we're home…"
"Two of Tenra-sama's [Bishops], retired!"
Akeno summoned another volley. With her defenses down, Minamikaze took the full force, collapsing in a shower of sparks.
"Lightning!"
Minamikaze's panic betrayed her—she rushed to her friend's side, leaving herself exposed.
"Tosca!"
The spear's momentum carried, striking Tosca and sending her flying. Akeno had aimed to avoid vital spots, but the impact was brutal.
"Ahh—!"
Akeno lunged. Tosca pumped spiritual energy into her barrier, desperate to reinforce it. But the spear sliced through, effortless, like paper.
Tosca's eyes widened. "No!"
"Holy Spear—pierce!"

Akeno's eyes narrowed. "Time to use the power Tenra gave me."
