Chapter 301: Queen's Gambit
Somewhere in a forgotten corner of the floating island—
"No. No way… How could Raynare—just Raynare—become this strong? It's impossible!"
Kalawarner lay sprawled in a pool of her own blood, disbelief etched deep into her features.
She'd lost. Lost to Raynare, of all people.
"What's wrong, Lady Kalawarner? Still choking on reality?" Raynare gazed down at her, a cold, crooked smile twisting her lips.
"I don't believe it!" Kalawarner's voice cracked with hysteria. Refusing to accept defeat, she conjured a spear of light, aiming to drive it through Raynare.
But—
"AAAHHH!"
Raynare stomped down hard on Kalawarner's stomach, wrenching a scream from her battered body.
"Ah, music to my ears. Come on, Kalawarner—scream louder for me!" Raynare's laughter rang out wild and warped, her heel grinding deeper into Kalawarner's gut.
Watching the pain contort Kalawarner's face, listening to her desperate cries, Raynare felt a dark, twisted joy shiver through her soul. Her laughter echoed off the stone—mad, triumphant, and cruel.
Was this really the same Kalawarner she'd once feared? So weak, so pathetic. Now she was nothing more than a dog, helpless under Raynare's heel.
"Lady Raynare."
Mittelt and Karawana dropped from the sky, tossing a handful of barely-conscious fallen angel girls to the ground.
Seeing her subordinates defeated—Mittelt, Karawana, and the rest—Kalawarner's face drained of color. Not even these two could win? Useless. Absolutely useless.
But before Kalawarner could curse them further, fresh agony knifed through her abdomen. Another scream tore from her throat.
When Raynare finally tired of her game, Kalawarner was little more than a wreck, her voice ragged and hoarse.
She couldn't understand it—how had Raynare, who used to grovel at her feet, become so terrifying?
But in the end, none of that mattered. All that was left was fear.
Ignoring the other fallen angels, Raynare grabbed Kalawarner by the collar and hauled her upright.
"So, Kalawarner… what should I do with you?"
Raynare licked her lips, her smile bloodthirsty as she leaned close to Kalawarner's face.
"Don't—don't kill me, Raynare. I'll never cross you again, I swear. Please… don't kill me…"
Kalawarner shook uncontrollably, her pride shattered. She begged for her life.
Raynare stroked her cheek, voice sweet as poison. "Relax. I won't kill you. You all still have your uses."
"Th-thank you, Raynare… thank you…" Kalawarner managed a smile uglier than a sob, but inside, her hatred boiled.
Damn you, Raynare. Just wait. Just wait…
But Raynare's smile only grew colder. "You really ought to thank me. I'm sending you all to Master."
"Feel honored, Kalawarner. From now on, you'll be his tools. His bitches. Just like me."
The words landed like a slap, and Kalawarner froze, then began thrashing wildly.
"No! I won't—I refuse—!"
She would never become a tool. Never become anyone's plaything. If Raynare wanted to debase herself, fine—but she wouldn't drag Kalawarner down with her.
But resistance meant nothing now. Raynare punched her hard in the stomach, and Kalawarner's eyes bulged before she collapsed, unconscious.
"Don't let anyone see. Take them all back to the human world," Raynare ordered, tossing Kalawarner aside.
"Yes, Lady Raynare!" Mittelt and Karawana replied, voices trembling.
Even they were afraid of how dark and twisted Raynare had become.
A teleportation vortex shimmered to life. Mittelt and Karawana dragged Kalawarner and the others away, while Raynare stretched lazily, heading toward the main arena.
She'd played around long enough. Time to see how Master's match was going…
—
"Break time's over. Would both teams' Queens and Bishops please prepare for the next match."
The demon dancers left the stage as the host's voice echoed overhead.
"This opponent won't be easy. Do your best, but don't push yourselves," Tenra advised Yubelluna, Tosca, and Momo as they stepped forward.
Sairaorg's Queen, Kuisha Abaddon, was a legend—a scion of the Abaddon family, rumored to wield an ability called the "Hole," rivaling the power of Sacred Gears. She'd never lost a match.
Yubelluna, Tosca, and Momo were among Tenra's finest, but against such a foe, even he wouldn't be surprised if they lost.
"Yes, Lord Tenra," the three replied, bowing. But their eyes blazed with determination.
Tenra had told them to do their best, but they intended to fight with everything they had—not just for his victory, but for their own pride.
At the host's signal, both teams' Queens and Bishops stepped onto the platform. Light flared, and they were whisked away into the alternate space.
Under the roar of the crowd, the third match—the Queen's battle—began.
—
This field was different from the last. Towering stone spires rose in clusters, forming a maze of ancient towers.
Yubelluna and her team appeared atop one tower. Across the way, Kuisha Abaddon and her two Bishops stood on another.
"Your reputation precedes you, Bomb Queen. I am Kuisha Abaddon, Queen of Lord Sairaorg. I look forward to our match." Kuisha's voice was elegant, her smile poised.
Her Bishops stepped forward:
"We are Lord Sairaorg's Bishops—"
"Coriana Andrealphus."
"Misteeta Sabnock."
Coriana was a mature woman with golden curls. Misteeta, staff in hand, looked like a beautiful girl—but his voice and name revealed he was, in fact, a beautiful boy.
"I'm Lord Tenra's Queen, Yubelluna. These are his Bishops, Momo and Tosca. Let's have a good match," Yubelluna replied, gracious and confident. Momo and Tosca nodded politely.
They'd fight without mercy, but none of them would stain Tenra's reputation with rudeness before the match.
"Contestants, prepare yourselves. The battle begins now!"
At the host's announcement, Yubelluna and Kuisha unleashed their power. The air between them crackled—friendliness swept away by fierce combat intent.
"Momo, Tosca—cover me!"
"Understood!"
Yubelluna shot skyward, her teammates ready to support. Kuisha gave her own orders, then rose to meet her.
Almost simultaneously, both Queens conjured massive magic circles in the air—the duel began.
"DXD: Infinite Loot System"BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Yubelluna hurled fireballs; Kuisha summoned ice shields to block.
Water surged from Yubelluna's hands; Kuisha whipped up hurricanes to scatter the torrents.
Hundreds of lightning bolts crackled; Kuisha raised earthen walls to protect her team.
If the Knights' duel was a dance of blades, and the Rooks' clash a contest of brute force, then this was a festival of magic.
Lightning and thunder, fire and waves—spells flew thick and fast. With their Bishops backing them, both Queens fought with abandon, holding nothing back.
Stone towers collapsed all around, magic detonations shaking the battlefield. In mere minutes, they'd unleashed hundreds of spells—each more dazzling than the last. The audience outside the alternate space erupted in cheers.
BOOM!
Another collision, and both Queens paused, dropping back to their towers, chests heaving.
They'd measured each other now—magical mastery evenly matched. At this rate, they could fight for days without a clear winner.
"Yubelluna, are you alright?" Momo and Tosca rushed to heal her wounds, restoring her magic.
"Don't worry. I'm fine."
She signaled to them, but her eyes were troubled.
Kuisha hadn't even used her "Hole" ability, yet she'd fought Yubelluna to a standstill. This was going to be a problem…
