"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 288: The Phoenix Heir
Tenra, Rias, and Ravel didn't linger for farewells—they simply boarded the shuttle back to the airport, leaving Sairaorg and his mother to their well-earned peace.
Rias would head home to the Gremory estate for her "reward," while Tenra and Ravel prepared to return to House Phoenix, ready to finally reveal the truth about their relationship to their parents.
"Sister-in-law, travel safe," Ravel said softly.
"You too, Ravel," Rias replied, squeezing her hand before stepping onto the train. The whistle sounded, and with a rush of wind, the train soared away.
Just as Tenra and Ravel moved toward their own platform, a familiar voice called out behind them.
"Tenra Kamiyo!"
Sairaorg appeared, sweat beading his brow. Tenra grinned. "You sprinted all the way from the hospital?"
Sairaorg caught his breath, shaking his head. "Mother's resting now—she's still weak, but the doctors say she'll make a full recovery with time."
He paused, then bowed his head. "Tenra Kamiyo, I owe you everything for this. I'll never forget what you've done."
Tenra waved it off. "Don't mention it. Just cherish your mother. You're luckier than I ever was."
Sairaorg's smile was radiant. "I will."
With the weight lifted from his shoulders, Sairaorg seemed a new man—brimming with energy and hope.
He glanced at Tenra, eyes gleaming. "Our match is coming up soon, isn't it?"
Tenra's lips curled into a smirk. "Been waiting for this day."
"Hey, after I just saved your mother, you're not going to go easy on me, are you?"
Sairaorg barked a laugh. "If I did, you'd just get angry!"
"True. If you held back, I'd be disappointed."
"Don't worry, Tenra Kamiyo. I'll give it everything I've got—no holding back."
Tenra nudged him. "Big words. Just don't cry when I flatten you in front of your mom."
Sairaorg grinned. "That would be embarrassing. Guess I'll have to fight even harder, then."
They traded jabs and laughter, the friendly rivalry burning bright. Both looked forward to the match—each determined to give their all.
"See you at the tournament, Sairaorg."
"See you there!"
No further words were needed. They bumped fists, exchanged a wave, and Tenra and Ravel boarded their train.
The carriage was spacious and luxurious, but only Tenra and Ravel occupied it.
Ravel curled up in Tenra's lap, voice barely above a whisper. "Onii-sama, I'm a little scared…"
She was trembling at the thought of confessing everything to their parents. Tenra stroked her hair, pressing his forehead gently to hers.
"Don't worry. I'm right here."
Ravel's arms tightened around him. "Onii-sama… I love you."
With Tenra beside her, the anxiety faded, replaced by a quiet comfort.
"If you're bored, you can nap. I'll wake you when we get home."
"No way! We're finally alone—I don't want to waste it sleeping."
Tenra smiled. "So what do you want to do? Play a game? Or just talk?"
Ravel shook her head, cheeks pink. "Talking is nice, but… there's something more meaningful we could do."
"More meaningful?"
"K-Kiss… Onii-sama, can we… try again?"
Her face was scarlet as she whispered her wish. Ever since their first kiss, Ravel had been hooked—though back home, Kunou always clung to her, making private moments impossible. Now, with Tenra all to herself, she couldn't resist.
Tenra chuckled, then leaned down and captured her lips in a gentle kiss.
"Welcome home, Lord Tenra. Welcome home, Lady Ravel."
Word of their return had preceded them. As Tenra and Ravel stepped into the Phoenix estate, hundreds of maids and attendants lined the grand corridor, bowing in perfect unison.
Tenra nodded, unfazed by the spectacle. Ravel, on the other hand, walked with her head held high, pride shining in her eyes. Tenra couldn't help but smile at her.
If the staff once respected Tenra as their master, now it was something closer to worship. The whole supernatural world knew his name: betrothed to a Maou's sister, master of the Heavenly Dragons, the one who'd defeated Kokabiel, the former White Dragon Emperor, and even the evil god Loki. His victories against the Old Satan Faction and the Hero Faction were the stuff of legend.
To the Phoenix family, Tenra was a miracle—perhaps the brightest in their history.
Tenra didn't care much for fame, but Ravel basked in it, proud of her Onii-sama. She walked taller, chin up, as they passed through the corridor.
Suddenly, a voice called out, warm and refined. "Ravel. Tenra."
A man approached—shoulder-length golden hair, sharp but gentle features, every inch the noble. Unlike Riser's mischievous charm, this man radiated elegance and quiet authority.
It was Ruval Phoenix, the eldest son and heir of House Phoenix.
"Big brother!" Ravel exclaimed, dashing over.
Ruval smiled, eyes softening. "Ravel, you're more beautiful every time I see you. Nearly as lovely as Mother now."
Ravel flushed. "I-it's not true, big brother…"
Ruval's gaze lingered on her, full of affection.
Tenra stepped forward. "It's been a while, big brother."
Ruval clasped Tenra's shoulder. "I've heard about your accomplishments. You truly honor our family. If Aunt Tamako were here, she'd be so proud."
There was genuine admiration in his voice. Tenra, who'd once been dismissed as a failure, had become the family's pride—and Ruval couldn't hide his amazement.
Ravel puffed her cheeks. "Big brother, you're surprised, aren't you? Onii-sama is amazing now!"
Tenra waved her off. "That's just talk. I'm still nowhere near your level."
Ruval laughed. "No need to be modest. Having a brother like you keeps me on my toes."
Ravel chimed in, "Onii-sama's already surpassed you, big brother. You need to work harder."
Ruval feigned hurt. "Even your doting brother feels wounded hearing that. Besides, I'd like to be called 'Onii-sama' too."
Ravel's face turned crimson. "That… 'Onii-sama' is only for Tenra-Onii-sama. No one else."
Ruval grinned. "Biased little sister."
"N-not true! Big brother, I—"
He laughed, raising a hand. "Alright, I'll stop teasing. You're here to see Father and Mother, right? They're waiting. Let's go together."
"Okay!"
