Chapter 36 - DG 36: New Disguise

[Concept].

A new thing.

Alaric studied it closely and realized it seemed tied to "new forms."

As is well known, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon follows a clear evolutionary path: Legendary White Stone (egg) → Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon (growth stage) → Blue-Eyes White Dragon (mature stage) → Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon (complete form) → Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon (ultimate form)… much like the evolution process in Digimon.

Yet, just as Digimon don't always evolve through standard means... featuring alternate paths like "Armor Evolution." "Fusion Evolution." Or "Ancient Spirit Evolution"... the mature Blue-Eyes White Dragon could also unlock new forms by merging with other [Concepts].

The first new form Alaric comprehended and mastered came from the [Protection] concept:

[O indomitable white dragon, imbue your wings with the power of protection, and become the pure white dragon that safeguards the world's beauty!]

[Descend, White Spirit Dragon!]

"Ughhh... so embarrassing!"

"Do I have to say it out loud?"

In the valley, Camelot Kingdom.

Another brand-new day.

Like the countless ordinary days and nights before, Artoria continued her work building this new kingdom.

"Come on, everyone, keep it up! I had Kay get us some ale!"

The girl, hefting two massive logs on her shoulders, cheered on the surrounding work crew.

She was the king of this nation, yet she carried no regal airs. She wasn't the type to sit in an office handling state affairs. More often than not, she labored and ate alongside the villagers.

Her lead-by-example spirit undoubtedly won the hearts of most.

Of course, it could also be because she was just too capable... she could single-handedly lift two enormous logs, each requiring four people to carry, and do so with apparent ease, as if she still had energy to spare.

In truth, if not for the limitations of her human frame, her strength could haul even more timber or move greater stones.

Such superhuman feats would likely draw criticism if displayed by anyone else... at the very least, they'd be labeled a "monster." But on her, it seemed perfectly reasonable. She was the holy king who made a pact with a god; a touch of divine prowess was only natural, wasn't it?

If she couldn't lift two logs at once, that would be strange.

"My king, tell us about your story with the White Dragon God!"

"Yeah, yeah, something we haven't heard before... Sir Kay said you secretly raised that White Dragon God, is that true?"

"No, that's not right. I heard Sir Kay say he discovered the White Dragon God first, and it chose him as the holy king... but he didn't want it, so he passed the crown to his sister…"

Before Artoria could respond, the crew started bickering among themselves.

Thanks to Kay's big mouth, the village was rife with different versions of the tale. Stories like The Secret History of the White Dragon, The Story I Can't Not Tell About Me and the White Dragon, or I Bet the Dragon God and Won a Gold Coin… As long as you brought a mug of ale to Kay, he'd spin a brand-new version you'd never heard before.

"That guy Kay…"

Artoria sighed, helpless but resigned.

Humans were like that... they craved legendary tales and thrilling stories. The plain, unremarkable "truth" Held no appeal, and even if Artoria told it, no one would care to listen.

"My king, can you contact the Dragon God?"

"Yeah, can you summon His Majesty?"

"We want to witness the divine radiance!"

After a brief squabble, the crew's voices unified.

They shouted the god's name with excitement, devoid of reverence. Those who had never seen a god were like this... they knew only of divine glory, not divine authority.

Artoria maintained her smile.

She could indeed contact Alaric, but she would never agree to such a baseless request, driven solely by curiosity. Merlin had once told her a story about the legendary king Solomon, gifted by God to perform miracles. Yet, throughout his life, he displayed his miracles to his people only once.

"A miracle is a miracle precisely because it's beyond human power, requiring divine aid."

"If miracles happen too often, people will start to think they're commonplace and cease to respect divine authority."

"So, a miracle need only be shown once, to let the people know their king bears divine favor."

This was a profound lesson, one Artoria often used to remind herself not to fall into the trap of "individualism."

Like now, working alongside the villagers.

Truthfully, with her strength, she could probably handle these tasks faster alone. But she willingly sacrificed efficiency to labor with them... not just to bond with her people, but to make them feel like "builders" Of this nation, not merely its "subjects."

"Wait, my king, I think I see the White Dragon God!"

"Huh?"

"For real, it's the White Dragon God... so white!"

"…"

Well, then.

The king looked up at the white dragon soaring from the distance, her fair face tinged with exasperation.

She hadn't called for a miracle to bolster her authority with divine favor.

But when the miracle showed up on its own… there was nothing she could do.
