Riley had reached the edge of his patience. It had been almost three hours since Henry left, and the longer Riley stayed, the more absurd he felt.
Every passing minute twisted itself into a coil of doubt and frustration. What could possibly have taken Henry so long? He had gone only to apologize if needed, make it clear there was nothing between them anymore, perhaps warn him not to threaten Riley again, and then return.
How could that take hours.
Shouldn't he have waited, just like Adam told him? Has he become so desperate that he can't see the truth ..that the moment Henry is with someone who was his first love, all those old feelings will come rushing back, and he'll realize that Riley was nothing more than a distraction?
The idea made Riley pace, back and forth, each step sharper, more frantic than the last. The rhythm of his movement matched the frantic beat of his heart.
