"Skye, go to your room for a second," Henry says, his voice low and strained.
But Skye doesn't leave right away. His small frame lingers at the doorway, his eyes tilting upward, wide and wet, searching Riley's face.
The tears that roll freely down his cheeks glisten against the soft light in the hall.
Riley looks away, clearly not wanting to see that because he knows he cannot withstand. He blinks fast, trying to chase back the burn in his own eyes, a lump rising thick and hard in his throat.
He cares about Skye, he knows that without question..
