I just realized I have made a very grave mistake early on regarding the timeline for Sakamoto Days. Initially, I didn't give it much thought when I first showed Sakamoto in a flashback, which was when he first retired due to the birth of his daughter. Now, I realized where I absolutely fucked up.
I forgot that Sakamoto retired when he was 21, and if there was a 6-year time skip, that would be he would be 27. He would be 26 when he meets Shin who tries to assassinate him, and 27 after a one-year timeskip when Lu Shaotang first appears.
Now the main problem is at hand. If a 6-year timeskip did happen, then that means that the Sakamoto Days plot should be happening right now. Something I never intended. I planned out that if I ever wrote the full plot for Sakamoto Days, it would roughly be around Haruya's 3rd year of high school. However, it wouldn't make much sense to do so now because it would be 6 years before that happens.
Even if I adjusted the 6 years ago flashback a couple of years, it wouldn't even make sense because Haruya wouldn't even have been born yet, considering that I wanted to match his age with Lu Shaotang, he would have to be 12 when the flashback happens when Sakamoto first appears, not the original 5-6 I wrote it as.
Honestly, I am thinking whether I should just scrap the Sakamoto Days plot or not.
If not, I'll have to adjust to an AU, where I would adjust some of the people's ages, which would honestly lessen the impact because Sakamoto's student days were a pretty big part of the plot, and there would be a lot of inconsistency in the ages.
Two, I can just keep writing and leave this pretty big plot hole and have you guys ignore it, just for the future of the plot.
Or three, I can readjust Haruya to the extreme ripe age of 1 during that flashback, leaving even more plotholes as to why he can remember Sakamoto but not Erina and Alice. (I was currently writing a plot as to why this is the case when I realized my mistake with the Sakamoto Days plot) If I did this, there would still be that slight 2-year mistake that I would also choose to ignore, leaving another inconsistent age, just to have Haruya's age match with Lu Shaotang when the plot first starts. But the impact would not be as great as the age inconsistencies that will definitely appear in the first method. This mostly just leaves the plot hole of why he couldn't remember Alice and Erina, and I would have to scrap what I'm currently writing as to why he couldn't remember them, because it would have to involve Sakamoto, which would no longer be possible if he retired when Haruya was still 1. (Supposedly -2)
So I just wanted to know your opinions on this, I guess. Thanks. Please do read my future author notes to know what my move would be to this, just in case someone ever notices that mistake.
