Chapter 12: Coordinated Strike
[Morning – Hell's Kitchen Streets]
Adam woke up in his messy safehouse, the taste of cheap coffee and old pizza a welcome change from the dust of his last life. The system was buzzing with the new reward.
[SYSTEM: Objective: Infiltrate HYDRA base.]
He was ready. He looked at his hands, a faint, familiar glow in his palms. His new stealth skills felt like a whisper in his veins, a new layer of instinct.
"Base? I'll sneak and spark it!" he said to his empty room, a wide grin spreading across his face.
He met Anya on a rooftop overlooking a dilapidated warehouse. He was a shadow in the morning light, blending seamlessly with the urban decay. She didn't see him until he was right behind her.
"Stealthy now? You're wild, Stiels," she said, a hint of awe in her voice.
Adam grinned. "Enhanced Stealth Tactics. One of my finest additions. Watch this."
He crouched, focusing a tiny spark of plasma on a loose pipe below. The pipe suddenly heated up, making a loud, hissing sound as an operative below slipped on the now-slick, super-heated metal. The guard let out a yelp of surprise, his panicked radio call cutting through the air.
"Intruders!"
"Intruders? We're the glow-up crew!" Adam said, his voice a low, teasing whisper.
"Ridiculous," Anya said, but she was smiling. The plan was working. They moved quickly, using his new stealth to avoid the patrols and her web lines to create tripwires. This was a partnership.
Stealth and plasma? HYDRA's done.
[Afternoon – HYDRA Base Interior]
The interior of the HYDRA base was a maze of identical corridors. Adam and Anya moved through them with practiced ease, her Spider-Sense a perfect complement to his new stealth. They found what they were looking for in the main server room. A terminal full of Ultron-linked tech.
[SYSTEM: Mastery: Stealth at 10%, Plasma at 35%.]
"35%? I'm a glowing ghost!" Adam muttered, his grin widening. He could feel the skill integrating, his plasma becoming more precise and easier to control.
"Focus, Stiels—this is bad," Anya said, her voice serious as she pointed at the terminal. She was right. The schematics on the screen were a complex web of code, far more advanced than anything they'd seen before.
An operative burst into the room. "You're done!"
"Done? I'm sneaking!" Adam shot back, his plasma-heated fingertips frying a camera on the ceiling. The camera's lights flickered, and then the screen on the wall next to it flashed a cartoon face.
"Ultron's tech again," Adam said, the weight of the moment pressing down on him.
"We need to stop it," Anya said, her voice a low growl. This was personal. This was for the city.
HYDRA's deep. Gotta end this.
[Evening – Base Battle]
They had been discovered. The base was now full of panicked, but well-armed HYDRA operatives. Adam and Anya stood back to back, his plasma a faint glow in the darkness, her webs a constant threat.
"HYDRA's unstoppable!" an operative yelled, his voice full of bravado.
"Unstoppable? I'm sneaking through!" Adam replied, using his enhanced stealth to appear to his left, firing a burst of plasma at the operative's feet, forcing him to dance in place to avoid the heat.
"Nice moves, Stiels!" Anya said, a web line snapping taut to her palm as she took down another operative.
"HYDRA's got more, kid," a voice echoed from the shadows. It was Matt Murdock. He wasn't visible, but his presence was a reassuring hum in the chaos.
"More? I'm a legend!" Adam said, a small, nervous laugh escaping his lips.
"Hopeless," Anya said, but she was smiling.
HYDRA's tough. I'm tougher. We're tougher. The fight was a choreographed ballet of web lines and plasma blasts, a testament to their newfound teamwork. They were a well-oiled machine.
[Night – Hell's Kitchen Safehouse]
The safehouse was a mess, a testament to a long day of fighting. Adam, Anya, and Matt stood around the tablet they had secured from the base. It was a complex web of schematics and code, all pointing to one thing.
[SYSTEM: Objective: Stop Ultron's growth.]
"Ultron? I'll glow it down!" Adam said, his voice full of a dangerous energy.
"Reckless, but I'm in," Anya said, a determined glint in her eyes. She was a true partner.
Matt was more measured. "Plan smart, Stiels. This isn't just about glowing stuff down. This is about a sentient A.I."
"Smart's boring," Adam said, but he knew Matt was right. This was a whole new level of threat.
"Disaster," Anya said with a sigh. She knew him too well.
Ultron's rising. Time to shine. The system's suggestion for a new simulation made perfect sense now. He needed a new skill, something to counter this kind of tech. He needed to get stronger.
