Chapter 13 - Uncle Novak

Osiroh, in the General Hospital.

Jelian was laying his head on the bed next to his sister, Nandi.

Nandi was patting Jelian's head and comforting him.

This was because he was completely down about what had happened yesterday.

He wasn't tired; given his ability, he wouldn't get any tired at all. But he was down about the loss in training; he hadn't even managed to win once.

"Don't worry, Jelian, you'll definitely win in the end." Nandi wanted to encourage him and lift his spirits.

Jelian nodded, feeling a little better. He didn't want to appear weak in front of her, so he lifted his head and sighed.

"How were the doctors and nurses treating you? Did they treat you well?" Jelian tried to change the subject.

"They were kind to me, caring, and bringing me whatever I needed." Nandi replied with an innocent smile.

"Can you talk to them comfortably?"

"Well... not really. I can only answer when I'm not looking at him, and I don't think he'd mind." Nandi frowned slightly and rubbed her arm.

"I see..."

"But the nurse brought some sweets! They were so delicious and sweet," Nandi was excited as she told her brother how sweet they were.

"I'll ask her to bring them." Nandi couldn't wait and reached for the landline phone hanging on the wall next to her bed.

Indeed, she called Nurse Anna, who was sitting at the reception, and she agreed to bring her the sweets.

Work in the hospital is relatively sAidentary and sparse. In the past, there were days when it was busy, or almost full, but there was constant activity throughout the day and in all corners of the hospital.

But now it's almost empty and sparse, and not because of the lack of patients. On the contrary, there were many, the same average number of patients as in the past.

The difference here is that most of those who came had mild injuries that could be easily treated, while the rest were in very stable condition.

Nuclear energy had a profound effect on everything. Some, in some way, gained greater immunity or the ability to stabilize their disease. There were actually people who recovered from very serious stage IV cancers.

As the saying goes, treat poison with poison.

When nuclear radiation caused diseases and increased the risk of cancer, a group of people now had a cure.

The only thing left for them was care, but that didn't relieve the doctors.

In principle, they distrusted any treatment with unknown side effects.

The medical field was still exploring new horizons every month, with the discovery of new diseases, treatments, or new surgical techniques, etc.

Now, with the integration of nuclear energy into the bodies of living beings, all their knowledge was thwarted and thrown down the drain.

As for the doctors in the hospital, they had a truly complicated feeling. They didn't know whether to be afraid of the emergence of a new disease or to use a treatment or medication that had previously worked and was no longer effective. They didn't know whether to be happy that nuclear energy had cured serious diseases and given them new abilities and physical improvements, which led to fewer patients.

So the nurses tried to spend their time talking or doing other things, but of course, without neglecting their work.

Nurse Anna was overjoyed as she brought a box containing a variety of sweets, pies, and cakes.

This was because she had time to spare, and because it was part of her job. With the approval of the hospital director, she had entrusted Nandi's care to Nurse Anna, so no other nurse would be present. She was also available to help her if she needed anything.

No service was free; everything would be paid for with Jelian's social points.

The nurse entered the room, and Nandi's face beamed with joy.

"Oh, Mr. Jelian Farouk is here! Now I know why you asked for so many sweets," the nurse said with a smile.

"Yes, thanks for taking care of my sister." Jelian was grateful to the nurse and thanked her.

"No, no need to thank me. Caring for patients is our duty. Here, here are the sweets."

"Yaaaaay!!!" Nandi was overjoyed, like a little girl who had just been given a gift.

Jelian, Nandi, and the nurse ate the dessert, and they were delighted.

Jelian was amazed by the taste, "Wonderful! I've never tasted such a sweet dessert in my life!" His cold eyes sparkled with brilliance.

The taste of the dessert took him in, and he began to eat it in large quantities with great delight.

Jelian had a great love for sweets and sugar. Before they came to Osiroh, Nandi had always made some sweets or cakes, but they had very high sugar content.

But Jelian was happy with them and loved them with all his heart, because the high sugar content didn't negatively affect him. Even when he had a drink, he drank from a huge cup, half full of sugar.

Because of his great love of sugar, he ate greedily, his face filled with delight. Nandi and the nurse reciprocated, and everyone was delighted.

From far away.

In a room with several large chairs facing each other, on one side was a man with a large build and a large neck, sitting at his desk, reading reports in his hand.

Calvin was the leader of his army.

At that moment, his assistant entered the room, wearing a smart suit. She placed a stack of papers in front of him on the bookcase.

"Boss Calvin, here are reports on all supplies, weapons, vehicles, and soldiers. There are also letters for the people we hired," the secretary said formally.

Calvin put down what he had in his hand and quickly examined the report. What interested him most was the request for people to hire, to help each other.

But he frowned and snorted coldly. He found most of them had refused to work with him for various reasons and excuses.

Except for two, this made him very happy and made him laugh a little.

This was because one of them was one of the ten ranked, and that had been his plan from the beginning.

Calvin announced to the army that they would face a battle against Osiroh's special forces, but what bothered him most was the presence of Aiden with them.

This wasn't just any superpowered Radiator; it was the Burner, one of the ten most dangerous people in the nation of Sonomia.

Of course, Calvin wouldn't underestimate them, as their mere presence posed a threat to the entire army. So, with the help of his contacts, he contacted a group of people with superpowers to engage in battle against the Burner and gain fame and money from it.

Most of them were unclassified, but that didn't indicate their weakness.

This is because the classification system isn't based on strength, but on danger, or more precisely, what the government considers a threat.

To give an example, the government believes the Beast Lord's disaster is much more dangerous than the Burner if one of them attempts to attack the capital. Based on reports and evidence, they are classified.

But unexpectedly, it turned out to be beneficial for everyone. For the Radiators with superpowers, the classification increases their prestige and fame, and is considered an indicator of power, even though it isn't.

It's also beneficial for the government, as it can gather data and information for all the Radiators in Sonomia, allowing them to develop a plan if they ever consider attacking the capital.

Now, Calvin's army has a Classified who can counter Aiden, leaving the unclassified to take over the fight and destroy the entire force.

"When will they arrive?" Calvin asked directly.

"I'm sorry, but they didn't specify exactly. They said we'll be there in a few days," she replied, nervous and slightly worried.

"Um..." Calvin understood the situation and didn't get angry at her, as he couldn't control the hired people, and if he argued with them, he might lose them completely.

He seemed to be thinking deeply as he tapped his thick finger on the table, just as he had done the night before the meeting.

"Okay, tell all commanders to make sure everything is ready and to train their battalions. If they're missing anything, let me know," Calvin ordered.

The secretary followed the order and left the office.

As she left, his face turned ugly and he gritted his teeth.

"I'll make you regret the day you dared to confront my army. Don't think you'll get away with it, Burner!"

Osiro was somewhere inside one of the apartments.

"Atchoo..., do i have a cold?" Aiden sneezed casually as he sat down on the couch.

"If you're infected, why are you still here? Get out before I get sick because of you!"

"Hahaha, you have a long and glorious life ahead of you. I'm sure a small cold won't affect the quality of your work, Uncle Novak!"

"Stubborn fool..." snorted an old man, irritated by Aiden's response. His body was wide and he had a bald spot on the top of his head. He was sitting in a chair in front of a fireplace, smoking a cigarette and staring at the flames.

His name was Martin Novak, and he had a residual organ that Aiden didn't know about, as he was never in the hall.

He was a superpowered radiator, capable of improving tools and weapons, and therefore held a special place among the troops.

Before the Great disaster, he had worked as a blacksmith, and before that, he had worked in a military workshop for 30 years. He had extensive experience in making weapons and combat tools, and he had a great passion and love for his work.

He had been married, but she died of an illness before the disaster. Now, he had nothing to sustain him in this life except his passion for his love.

It would have nearly disappeared had it not been for the appearance of Aiden and his forces. His passion returned with a vengeance, and he began to enjoy crafting weapons and combat tools even more.

He helped the forces because of him. Aiden's plastic canisters were his idea, and the twins, Alex and Axel, also own a special, unique sniper rifle set, also crafted by him.

But they are further enhanced by his ability. His ability gives weapons additional features, such as greater firepower, longer range, increased firing speed, silent firing, or superior penetration.

Bullets can be transformed into other types, such as bullets that fire and burn an enemy in a single shot, or bullets that explode with a massive explosion, like a bomb inside a bullet, or bullets that split and spread, hitting multiple targets at once.

He also creates armor and shields for bullets and stabs. His bulletproof vest has the strength of a 50-ton steel vest, but is lighter and more maneuverable.

And many other reasons made him a distinguished pillar of the forces. He is entirely credited with making the Radiator Special Forces famous and enhancing Osiro's standing.

This is exactly what Aiden wanted. He was trying to turn it into an arms trade, from which he could earn a large sum of money and enormous support for Osiro.

But his idea was rejected by his forces, and even by Uncle Novak himself. He never liked trading his products. He simply wanted to turn them into a hobby. If he were trading them, he would have done so long ago.

Nowadays.

Aiden occasionally liked to sit and talk with him, but he preferred quiet and solitude more than anything else.

"Come on, Uncle Novak, we love each other, so why the hate?"

"When have I ever loved a motherfucker like you? I can't believe you've even taken kids into your squad! How dare you think that?!" He was furious and deeply upset at the idea of Jelian and Luzia being in the troops.

"I don't take kids into the troops, but they have superpowers like me, and they can even fight, and they're perfect for the troops."

"Kids are kids, don't make up a ridiculous excuse like that."

Aiden laughed and said, "Trust me, Uncle Novak, once you see him for yourself, you'll be completely convinced."

"Damn you and your stubborn, perverted ideas..." Novak snorted and actually gave up on his attempt to persuade him.

He paused for a moment and said, "Is there really going to be a war coming?" Novak asked seriously and calmly.

As the atmosphere became more serious, Aiden adjusted his posture and sat more upright.

He replied solemnly, "Yes, and it will most likely be a bloody battle, so we need you these days to make weapons and armor for the troops."

"Aaaah, since I've known you, my life of peace has been gone, and now you're putting children in danger and bringing war here? You'll never let me die in peace."

"Ha ha ha, stop teasing Uncle Novak. I know you love your work, and you were happy and enjoying it, right?"

"...fuck you."

Aiden paused for a moment and continued solemnly, "You know I prefer peace for Osiroh, but peace won't come without a price, and I'll achieve it even if I fight the whole world."

"And I need your help in doing so."

Novak glanced at Aiden, but said nothing.

"So... I want you to give me a new set of..." Aiden said spontaneously and enthusiastically, even his cheeks flushing red like a child asking his father for money.

But he was met with a violent response from him, as he threw a shoe at Aiden's head, causing his body to slump backward. He then fell to his knees, groaning and wiping his forehead.

"I knew it!!! You motherfucker only know how to take advantage of this old man, and at your age, you can't even maintain your own possessions!!! Go fuck yourself!!! I won't do anything to you!!! Get out!!!" Novak shouted angrily at Aiden, his face turning red like a tomato.

Novak loved his work and appreciated everything he created, but Aiden would get into situations where he would act recklessly and destroy most of his inventions, which he had created specifically for him. Due to his recklessness and misuse, he developed a habit of smashing his own things, so most of his belongings were either broken, damaged, or simply thrown away and forgotten.

Aiden stormed out of Novak's apartment, his head reddened from the impact of his shoes.

"Damn him, a senile old man who only knows how to yell at me," Aiden said, his voice low and angry.

At that moment, Tiani was already standing next to him as he left, knowing full well that he loved spending time with Novak and that she, too, greatly appreciated and respected him as a father.

She sighed and said in disappointment, "You're so disrespectful. You're not even good at anything other than smashing his inventions. It makes sense that he'd yell at you."

"You... would you die if you stood by me just once?" Aiden turned to her with an ugly face.

But she responded with sarcasm and stuck out her tongue.

Tiani walked past her and said without turning back, "Cohen said he's gathered some information and wants to share it with you."

Aiden watched Tiani leave for a short while, then sighed and moved on.
