Chapter 239 - If You Could Travel… Where Would You Go?

Chapter 239 — If You Could Travel… Where Would You Go?

"Come on, Yusuke, don't stoop so low as to argue with a kid," Sakumo said, sighing as he tried to defuse the tension.

"Nee-san, how could you even marry someone like him?" Nawaki asked in disbelief, staring at his sister as if she'd lost her mind.

Tsunade glared at him. "Show some respect to your brother-in-law," she said firmly.

"Yeah, yeah, I know, Nee-san," Nawaki muttered, though his sulking expression made it clear he didn't like it.

Then, grrrrkk—his stomach growled loudly.

"Uh… Nee-san, I'm kinda hungry," he said sheepishly, scratching the back of his head.

Sakumo turned toward Yusuke. "It's almost dinner time. Go on, Yusuke, cook something."

"Fine," Yusuke replied without complaint. Honestly, he was too lazy to keep arguing with his newly revived, now-officially-little-brother-in-law.

Before long, the air was filled with the delicious aroma of food. Yusuke laid out a table packed with dishes so fragrant and perfectly plated that Nawaki couldn't help but gulp loudly.

"This smells amazing! Incredible! Brother-in-law, I officially acknowledge you!" Nawaki declared cheerfully as he dug in without hesitation.

"As if I needed acknowledgment from a brat like you," Yusuke muttered dryly, though Nawaki was too busy eating to fire back.

Halfway through the meal, Sakumo glanced at Yusuke seriously. "By the way, Yusuke… what exactly happened earlier? How is Nawaki alive again? And what are those eyes of yours?"

Yusuke quietly set down his chopsticks. "Within the Rinnegan lies power that transcends even the Six Paths. One of them is the Outer Path: Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique—the ability to bring the dead back to life."

Sakumo and Shinku both fell silent. Even for shinobi of their caliber, the concept of resurrection was something far beyond comprehension. After a long moment, they could only exhale deeply in disbelief.

Tsunade turned toward her brother. "Nawaki, for now, you'll stay at home. Don't go wandering off, understand?"

"What? But I'm a ninja! I still have unfinished missions!" Nawaki protested.

"No!" Tsunade snapped, eyes sharp. "Have you already forgotten how you died on the battlefield?"

"But I want to become Hokage! How am I supposed to do that sitting at home!?"

Yusuke cut in flatly. "The problem is, your ninja registration no longer exists. Officially, you're no longer a shinobi of Konoha."

"What!?" Nawaki's eyes widened in shock.

"She's right," Tsunade added coolly. "So from now on, act like a normal civilian."

"No way! I'll go talk to the Hokage myself! I want my status reinstated!" Nawaki shouted.

"Sorry, kid," Yusuke said casually, "but the current Hokage isn't Hiruzen anymore."

"What!? The Hokage was replaced? That was supposed to be my position!" Nawaki cried.

"You insolent brat," Tsunade said, cracking her knuckles. "The current Hokage is me!"

Nawaki swallowed hard, his face instantly pale. "N-Nee-san… you're the Hokage now?"

"That's right," Tsunade said proudly, folding her arms.

"In that case, isn't it easier? You can just reinstate me right away!" Nawaki said eagerly.

Tsunade sighed deeply, giving him a look that mixed fondness and frustration. "It's not that simple. It's not the academy season right now, and there's no available Jōnin instructor."

Then a sly smile curved her lips. She turned toward Yusuke with a look that made him instantly uneasy.

"…Why are you looking at me like that?" Yusuke asked warily, a bead of sweat rolling down his cheek.

"Oh, nothing. I just thought of a great idea," Tsunade said sweetly.

"I just remembered—there's something urgent I need to—"

Before Yusuke could finish, Tsunade was already behind him, patting his shoulder with a deceptively firm hand.

"As his brother-in-law, I think you're the perfect teacher for him. With you around, I won't have to worry."

"But I'm not a teacher!" Yusuke protested immediately. "Look at Kakashi! I raised him myself—and he turned into a lazy workaholic!"

"Don't sell yourself short," Tsunade said with a smirk. "Your observation and analytical skills surpass even the Byakugan. Teaching one student should be nothing for you."

"But I'm busy!" Yusuke argued again.

"Oh, really?" Tsunade's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Busy with what? As far as I recall, all you've done lately is buy sweets and watch street performances."

Yusuke sighed in defeat. "…Fine, fine."

"For the record," Nawaki piped up, "I don't want him as my teacher!"

"Relax, kid. I'm not thrilled about having a stubborn student either," Yusuke replied flatly.

"I'm a genius, you know!" Nawaki shot back instantly.

"Oh? That's funny. Your sister told me you were the slowest student in the academy," Yusuke said, staring at him blankly.

"That's not true! I'm just bad at theory—but I'm amazing in combat!" Nawaki protested.

Yusuke smiled faintly. "Oh yeah? Then how about we test that?"

"Fine by me! I'm not afraid!" Nawaki said, clenching his fists.

"Good," Yusuke said with a mischievous grin. "At least you've got guts."

A few minutes later, they stood on Kakashi's old training field. Yusuke and Nawaki faced each other in the center while Tsunade and Kurenai watched from the sidelines.

"Tsunade-neechan, shouldn't we stop them?" Kurenai asked worriedly.

"No need," Tsunade said calmly. "Yusuke knows his limits. And besides, this is good for Nawaki—it'll teach him not to underestimate others."

"But why Yusuke? Couldn't you find, I don't know, any other Jōnin?"

Tsunade's lips curled into a sly grin. "If we want Nawaki to respect his brother-in-law, only real power will do."

In the field, Nawaki tightened his headband and took a firm stance. "Brother-in-law, I won't hold back! If you get hurt, it's your fault!"

"Don't worry," Yusuke replied, smiling lazily. "I can't get hurt. I'm invincible."

"Don't be so cocky!" Nawaki dashed forward with a kunai in hand.

His movements were sharp, refined, and quick—proof of proper training. But Yusuke merely tilted his body slightly, easily dodging every strike.

Nawaki didn't relent. He swung again and again, but not even a strand of Yusuke's silver hair was touched.

"Ninjutsu: Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!"

From Nawaki's sleeve, serpents shot out, snapping toward Yusuke in a flurry of motion.

"Careful! This technique was personally taught to me by Orochimaru-sensei!" Nawaki said proudly.

Yusuke smirked. With a single flick of his hand, blades of wind swirled around him, shredding the snakes to pieces.

"That snake bastard?" Yusuke muttered coldly. "Even if he were here, he still wouldn't stand a chance against me."

"Don't underestimate me! Ninjutsu: Lion's Mane Technique!" Nawaki's hair extended rapidly, whipping forward like a storm of blades.

Yusuke clapped his hands together, summoning a barrier of compressed wind that effortlessly deflected the attack.

"So you're only good at defense?" Nawaki shouted, frustrated.

Yusuke chuckled softly. "Losing your temper already? You're still too young, kid."

He tilted his head slightly. "Alright then, you want to know the difference between us? Let me show you."

Crossing his arms, Yusuke asked casually, "Before we start… I have a question."

"What is it?" Nawaki asked suspiciously.

"If you could travel anywhere in the world… where would you go?"

"Travel?" Nawaki blinked. "I don't know. I've never left Konoha. The only time I traveled was to the battlefield—so I don't really know what the world looks like."

"I see," Yusuke murmured, smiling faintly. The air around him began to ripple with power. "Then how about this… let's go on a little trip. One that lasts just a single day and night."

His eyes sharpened, and his chakra surged violently—spinning like a storm, shaking the ground beneath them.

The atmosphere shifted. The air grew heavier.

It was as if the entire world around them… was about to change.
