Chapter 182 – The Rebirth of Sasori of the Red Sand
Sasori of the Red Sand stared at Kakashi, fully aware that he had lost. Even after using every trump card in his arsenal, he couldn't put up any real resistance.
"Sasori, please… stop this," Chiyo's voice was heavy with sorrow. She didn't want to see her grandson walk further down the wrong path.
"You old hag… I haven't lost yet," Sasori muttered, even though his body was falling apart and he no longer had the strength to fight.
Chiyo simply stared at him—at her stubborn, broken grandson.
"Let me handle this, Hatake Kakashi," she said calmly. "Let me be the one to send him off."
Kakashi nodded. He was starting to get bored of a fight without any real challenge anyway.
He cast a glance at his older brother, Hatake Yusuke, a complicated look flashing in his eyes.
The others didn't interfere. In the end, Sasori couldn't bring himself to harm his own grandmother. Whether consciously or not, he was holding back.
Chiyo gently stabbed him using the chakra blades of her puppet set—"Mother and Father." Sasori made no move to resist.
He had chosen to fall at his grandmother's hands.
"…I left a spy in Orochimaru's base," Sasori whispered with his final breath, revealing vital intel to Sakura and the others.
"Sasuke…" Sakura muttered, her eyes glimmering with hope and longing.
"In that case… I need to go see him too," Naruto said, glancing at her with determination.
Chiyo gazed down at her grandson's body, her expression heavy with grief.
"If you were given another chance… would you choose to serve Sunagakure?" she asked quietly.
"Maybe… That would've been the best ending for me. But there's no 'what if' anymore," Sasori replied, his voice fading.
Chiyo knew then—he had allowed himself to die. It wasn't defeat. It was surrender.
Slowly, she turned to face Gaara, then knelt before him.
"W-What are you doing, Grandma?!" Sakura gasped, stepping forward.
"Please stand up!" Gaara quickly moved to help her.
"Lord Kazekage… I am nothing but a feeble old woman. All of this… is my fault. I am a sinner to Sunagakure," she said, her voice trembling. "But still… I hope the village can find it in its heart to forgive Sasori…"
"But Grandma… he's already—" Gaara couldn't bring himself to finish the sentence.
"I… have a jutsu that can bring him back. I originally saved it for the Kazekage, in case the worst happened. But since you've survived… perhaps this is fate," Chiyo said, turning her gaze to Hatake Yusuke.
"I'll allow it," Gaara said solemnly. "But if he dares harm this village again… I will end him myself."
Yusuke nodded slightly, then shook his head slowly—his expression unreadable.
He nodded out of admiration. Gaara had grown. Despite how dangerous Sasori was, he was willing to accept him back, which showed both confidence and leadership.
But Yusuke also shook his head because, to him, it was still a dangerous gamble.
After all, Sasori had turned Gaara's own father into a puppet. Regardless of their strained relationship, a bond between father and son shouldn't be discarded so easily.
"Very well," Chiyo said softly.
She began weaving hand seals, focusing her chakra.
"Reanimation Technique…"
A faint blue light appeared from her hands, enveloping Sasori's lifeless body.
"Grandma Chiyo… are you—?" Sakura's voice faltered as realization struck.
As Tsunade's student, she knew the cost of that technique—it consumed the user's very life force.
Chiyo turned to her with a warm, gentle smile.
"What is it, Sakura?" Naruto asked, noticing her expression.
"She's using her life energy…" Sakura whispered.
"She's trying to bring Sasori back to life."
Everyone froze, eyes wide with shock.
"Bringing the dead back? Is that even possible…?" Naruto muttered in disbelief.
Among them, only Kakashi looked up and turned toward Yusuke, who stood calmly atop a tree branch, arms folded, silently observing the scene.
"It's a forbidden jutsu… but unique to Grandma Chiyo."
"Seriously?! That's amazing!" Naruto said, both impressed and confused.
On the side, Neji activated his Byakugan.
"There's no way a technique like that doesn't have a massive cost… The chakra flow is strange—way too unstable to be safe," he said, narrowing his eyes.
Kakashi activated his Sharingan as well, confirming it for himself.
"Damn… I'm running out of chakra," Chiyo muttered.
The blue glow from her hands began to fade.
The others could tell she wouldn't make it.
At that moment, Naruto stepped forward and placed his hand beside Sasori's body.
"Use my chakra, Grandma Chiyo. Please," he said, voice sincere.
Chiyo's eyes widened. She knew Naruto was the Jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails. And yet here he was—offering his strength to resurrect someone who had once been an enemy.
She was genuinely shocked. Never in all her years had she met someone like Naruto in the shinobi world.
Then she remembered what Kakashi had said earlier.
"…Thank you, my boy. But this is my atonement," Chiyo said, her voice trembling with emotion.
Naruto smiled, but his heart ached. For the first time, someone looked at him with true warmth.
"Grandma Chiyo… please. Let me help," he said again, this time more firmly.
"I want to help too," Sakura added, moved by Chiyo's kindness and sacrifice.
"Count me in," Temari said as she stepped forward.
At first hesitant, even she couldn't ignore the weight of what Chiyo was doing.
Chiyo's eyes filled with tears. But she still smiled.
"Enough. Step back. All of you… including you, old lady."
The quiet voice that followed was firm—commanding even.
A strange energy rippled through the air.
It was Hatake Yusuke.
Though it wasn't harsh, no one dared defy it.
Big Brother… are you going to step in now? Kakashi wondered silently.
Chiyo flinched, startled. But instinctively, she obeyed. She withdrew her hands, and the chakra surrounding Sasori's body began to fade.
"Blue Flame," Yusuke said softly.
A strange, bluish-purple fire engulfed Sasori's core.
"Wait—no!" Chiyo cried out, panic in her voice.
She didn't know Yusuke's abilities. The fire radiated life force, yes—but her knowledge of flame-based jutsu made her react out of fear.
The others remained still. They understood what Yusuke was capable of and didn't doubt him.
The powerful life energy from the flames began mending Sasori's puppet body.
And then—his eyes opened.
The puppet stirred slightly, scanning the surroundings with a blank gaze.
In truth, Yusuke had no particular intention of saving Sasori. He simply acted on a passing whim.
"…Why am I still alive?" Sasori asked, turning toward his grandmother.
Chiyo immediately moved to kneel in front of Yusuke. But with a simple flick of his hand, Yusuke stopped her.
He wouldn't allow someone like her to bow before him.
