Chapter 167 – Battle Against Indra
Engulfed by the black flames of Amaterasu, no one should have been able to survive.
Yet, from within that blazing inferno, Hatake Yusuke stepped out unscathed. His voice was calm, almost indifferent.
"I'm not the type to boast," he said flatly.
Indra's expression didn't waver. His hands moved in a blur, forming seals. Lightning burst to life around his body, erupting into a storm of electric fury that tore through the air toward Yusuke.
Before it could strike, the lightning froze midair—then vanished, its chakra dissipating as though devoured by emptiness. Yusuke remained unmoved, his hands still in his pockets.
"Lightning Release: Silence."
In the next instant, black lightning surged from all directions, surrounding him in a sphere of destruction.
Yusuke watched calmly. "As expected from the creator of these techniques… so this is the power of your eyes?"
Indra smirked faintly. "Correct. My dōjutsu amplifies all five chakra natures—and grants dominion over Amaterasu. At its peak, it can even disrupt my opponent's ninjutsu."
Yusuke tilted his head slightly, intrigued.
"Interesting. Then perhaps it's only fair I show you mine."
Both men radiated supreme confidence. Neither felt the need to hold back.
"My technique is called Limitless," Yusuke began. "How to explain it… Imagine you're racing against a turtle. You run, it crawls, but no matter how close you get, the distance between you never truly becomes zero. In short—you can never touch it. My technique makes that concept real. Your attacks can approach me infinitely, but they'll never reach me… because the space between us is infinite."
Indra frowned slightly.
Seeing that, Yusuke added with a faint grin, "Put simply, the closer your attack gets, the greater the resistance of space pushing it back. Try extending your hand."
Indra did as told. When their palms came within five centimeters, his hand stopped abruptly, as though an invisible wall had formed between them.
"See? That distance will never close. This… is infinity itself."
Indra finally understood—and his expression hardened. That technique was absurdly dangerous.
"Genjutsu—Sharingan!"
Power erupted from Indra's eyes, flooding the room with an overwhelming wave of spiritual pressure. The illusion sought to consume Yusuke entirely.
But Yusuke didn't even blink.
"Genjutsu, huh? A good idea—but useless against me." His eyes narrowed. "Besides… your dōjutsu will be mine soon."
He raised his hand. "Lightning Release: Annihilation."
A torrent of black lightning roared forth from his palm, tearing toward Indra.
"Wind Release: Infinite Tempest!"
A whirlwind of green chakra encircled Indra, forming a barrier that deflected the lightning.
"What—!? Impossible!" Indra's eyes widened.
"Nothing's impossible," Yusuke replied casually. "That's my dōjutsu—Shinra Myriad Eyes. As long as your ocular power is beneath mine, I can copy and amplify it as I please."
Indra was stunned. How could someone without Ōtsutsuki blood mimic the abilities of a Sharingan?
He exhaled sharply. "Hmph… this is getting interesting. Susanoo!"
The heavens trembled. A colossal, purple-armored warrior materialized around him, wings of chakra spreading wide—Indra's complete Susanoo, the embodiment of divine wrath.
"Oh? Your Susanoo truly lives up to its legend," Yusuke said with genuine admiration. "No wonder you were called the mightiest under the Sage of Six Paths. A perfect form… capable of wielding divine weapons."
Normally, such power was only achievable in the fourth stage—when the user gained the armor and shield of the Tengu. But Indra surpassed that.
"Sword of Divine Measure—Mountain Severing Slash!"
A tidal wave of energy surged forth, splitting the earth and sky.
Yusuke didn't move.
Indra laughed. "Not dodging? I've already figured out your trick! If space around you is infinite, then I just have to fill that infinity!"
His sword—a divine variant of the Totsuka Blade—didn't seal, but destroyed everything it touched. Each swing unleashed endless waves of power.
When the attack neared, Yusuke finally moved. With a light jump, he evaded, vanishing in a flicker. In the blink of an eye, he reappeared above Susanoo—right over the crystalline core where Indra stood.
"Monster Super Strength!"
Yusuke's fist slammed down. The crystal vibrated violently, sending tremors through the entire structure.
Though it didn't shatter, Susanoo staggered and crashed to the ground, the impact shaking the entire cavern and raising a massive cloud of dust.
Indra forced his construct upright, wings flaring as it soared back into the sky. From below, the snake soldiers watched in disbelief.
Yusuke floated upward as well, meeting Indra's gaze across the open air.
Susanoo swung its massive blade once more, while Yusuke formed a glowing sword of light in his hand.
"Sword of the Heavenly Clouds!"
The two blades collided, releasing a flash that illuminated the heavens.
Compared to Susanoo's towering form, Yusuke looked like an insect—but his power was anything but small.
"Hatake Sword Style: Oblivion. Slash!"
Twin waves of energy clashed, exploding in a brilliant storm. Yusuke's strike slightly overpowered Indra's, but Susanoo's durability was far superior. Both attacks canceled each other out, sending shockwaves across the battlefield.
Yusuke smiled faintly. "Still holding back, aren't you? Good… this is getting fun."
Indra's power clearly exceeded Hashirama's. Yusuke could feel it. If Indra unleashed everything, this fight would truly be worth remembering.
Their battle resumed—raw chakra shaking the very air. Indra's disbelief grew. How could a mere human withstand the might of a god's avatar?
The power once known as divine—none who had witnessed it had ever lived to tell the tale.
Every Mangekyō Sharingan had its own unique ability, but the Susanoo was near invincible—its attack and defense beyond compare.
Then—
"ROOM."
Yusuke's voice echoed.
"Six Thousand Degrees—Merciless Sun!"
A blazing sphere formed above his palm, glowing like a miniature sun. The heat distorted the air, the temperature climbing beyond imagination.
"Amaterasu!"
The black flames surged once more, devouring everything—including the golden fireball.
Indra chuckled. "Pointless. Amaterasu consumes all—even fire itself."
He swung Susanoo's sword again, but Yusuke merely smiled, coating his blade with Armament Haki and deflecting the colossal strike with a single effortless motion. The impact sent Susanoo reeling, its massive frame tilting from the rebound.
"Futile!" Indra snarled. "My Amaterasu devours all, and Susanoo's defense is absolute! You can't break through either!"
Yusuke raised an eyebrow, his smirk deepening.
"Overconfident, aren't you? Fire that can't even burn me alive? Don't make me laugh."
The black flames consuming his body suddenly vanished—absorbed into the radiance of his own golden fire.
Indra's eyes widened. "What—!? The temperature… it's higher than Amaterasu!?"
Yusuke stepped forward, the golden glow reflected in his calm, unyielding eyes.
"Come on, Indra," he said softly, his voice like a challenge whispered by the gods themselves. "But don't die too quickly."
He smiled.
The real battle was only just beginning.
