Chapter 108 - Journey to the Village of Kumogakure

Chapter 108 – Journey to the Village of Kumogakure

"Kakashi wants to see Rin too. That kid's still unsure whether to believe me or not." Hatake Yusuke let out a quiet sigh of resignation.

"Well… I can't blame him. It does sound hard to believe," Yūhi Kurenai replied gently.

"Alright. Kakashi's back. Let's go." Yusuke took Kurenai's hand, and with a flash of space-warping energy, the two of them appeared next to a dazed Kakashi.

"Finished your report already?" Yusuke asked, eyeing his little brother who seemed lost in thought.

"Ah! Big bro—you scared me!" Kakashi jolted. No matter how many times it happened, he just couldn't get used to how his brother appeared out of thin air like that.

"Don't just space out. Didn't you want to see Rin?" Yusuke said flatly.

At those words, Kakashi stiffened. He wasn't sure how to face her—the girl he had once pierced through with Chidori.

"Kakashi, stop beating yourself up. It wasn't your fault. I'm sure Rin never blamed you. Now come on," Yusuke said, lifting the corner of his black eyepatch.

Susano'o-no-Mikoto.

A vortex of swirling space appeared before them—rotating slowly like a celestial gate.

This was the power of Hatake Yusuke's Six Tomoe Rinnegan. Unlike Obito's Kamui, this eye allowed him to generate his own dimensional realm. Not just that—it gave him authority over space on a molecular level. This was not simply teleportation or storage—this was dominion over reality itself.

Yusuke had long understood: this eye carried the potential for absolute invincibility.

As the three entered the dimensional plane, the first thing they saw was Rin's body, lying silently on a bed.

"Rin…!" Kurenai gasped and immediately rushed to her side. Tears welled up in her eyes at the sight of her old friend's still form.

"Kakashi, go see her. You don't need to run away anymore. She doesn't hate you. But make sure nothing like this happens again. Become stronger." Yusuke's voice was calm but firm.

Unlike Kamui's dimension, Yusuke's space was completely under his will. In this realm, he was a god. He could even manipulate time itself.

But the time distortion was akin to Uchiha Itachi's Tsukuyomi. You could live ten years here, but once you left, time would resync with the real world. All that growth and decay would reset—as if it never happened.

"I'm sorry, Rin... I failed to protect you." Kakashi stood frozen, fists clenched tightly as he stared at her unconscious face.

"This isn't your fault. In the ninja world, death walks with us every day," Kurenai whispered, her voice trembling.

"My brother once said... that all failures and tragedies stem from one thing: lack of strength. If only I had the power to kill those enemies..." Kakashi's voice was low but heavy with grief.

"You're right about that." Yusuke nodded, his tone indifferent. There was no point sugarcoating things. Consolation only fed weakness—what Kakashi needed now was resolve.

"Alright, let's head back. Time flows differently here," Yusuke said, cutting off the silence.

"By the way, Yusuke… your eye... is that a Kekkei Genkai?" Kurenai finally asked, her curiosity overflowing.

"It's called Rinnegan." Yusuke casually pulled up his eyepatch just enough for her to see.

The moment their eyes met, a shiver crawled up her spine. His expression was calm, even smiling, but the gaze behind that eye... felt like staring into eternity.

Kurenai's face froze.

"Relax, don't freak out. I'll explain later. But for now, keep this between us, alright?" Yusuke winked before covering it again.

"…Alright. I understand." Somehow, with Yusuke, nothing ever felt truly surprising.

The three exited the dimensional realm in silence.

A few days later – Inside the Hokage's Office

"Minato-nii, don't tell me I'm the only Jōnin assigned to this mission?" Yusuke asked with a teasing smirk.

"Of course not. You'll be accompanied by the Ino-Shika-Chō team. Three Jōnin will be going with you," Minato said, smiling back.

"Cool. But I can use space-time jutsu to speed things up, right?" Yusuke asked, eyebrows raised.

"No way! This is part of their field training. And besides, lots of your old classmates will be attending this Chūnin Exam," Minato replied sternly.

"Oh? They're just now becoming Chūnin?" Yusuke raised a brow.

"You think everyone's like you? Most of them have Chūnin-level power already. They just haven't gotten promoted due to the war," Minato said with a sigh.

"Got it, Minato-nii. No worries—if I'm around, no one will dare mess with us." Yusuke grinned.

"…That's exactly what I'm worried about. Don't cause any trouble. Konoha can't afford another war," Minato muttered, rubbing his temple.

"Well, think of it this way… neither can the other villages," Yusuke shot back, his voice laced with playful menace.

"…Just go already before I pass out from stress." Minato finally gave up with a defeated chuckle.

He knew full well: if Yusuke started the problem… he'd also end it.

"Alright! I'm off then!" Yusuke waved and vanished in a flicker.

Meanwhile, at the gathering point…

"The other Jōnin's still not here? It's past noon already!" Akimichi Chōza groaned.

"Yeah, yeah… Hey, Shikaku, you know who the Hokage assigned?" Yamanaka Inoichi asked.

"I've got a hunch," Nara Shikaku replied with a lazy yawn.

"Who?" Chōza leaned forward.

"Well… there aren't many Jōnin free right now. And only one guy would dare to be this late," Shikaku said flatly.

"Oh. You mean him, don't you?" Inoichi nodded knowingly. Chōza grumbled something in agreement.

Suddenly, a cheerful voice echoed from the distance.

"Helloooo~ Sorry I'm late! But I did show up, so it's fine, right?"

Everyone turned toward the source.

Golden light particles gathered and condensed into the shape of a tall, silver-haired teen. One eye was hidden behind a black eyepatch, and his face—half-visible—wore a charming, lazy smile.

Even with half his face hidden, his looks were stunning.

"You finally made it. You're over an hour late, Yusuke," Shikaku said dryly. Of the three, he had dealt with Yusuke the most.

"Hahaha, Shikaku-nii, I saw a dango shop on the way, and, well… I had to stop~." Yusuke cheerfully held up a box of sweet dumplings.

"Want some?"

"…Forget it. Let's just go," Shikaku sighed.

To Yusuke, this wasn't a mission—it was a picnic.

The other shinobi stared at him with a mix of awe and irritation.

"Two hours late… for dango?"

"…Umm, can I have one?" Chōza asked quietly, hopeful.

"Of course, Chōza-senpai! I brought plenty!" Yusuke grinned, plopping down beside him and passing out treats.

The mission to Kumogakure had officially begun—but with Yusuke on board, it was anything but ordinary.
