Chapter 41 - No Sympathy for a Slacker Doctor

"FBI! FBI!"

At the gate of the Tohsaka Residence, Mo Wang kicked the family's ancestral gate clean off its hinges.

Both his actions and his words were a goldmine of tsukkomi material for the two girls behind him.

Fortunately, even Mash had developed a certain immunity to Mo Wang's antics by now and didn't retort on the spot.

This feeling of having no one to play the straight man made Mo Wang feel that the whole thing was rather pointless.

Under Olga Marie's command, in less than two minutes, Mash had successfully placed her Noble Phantasm as a catalyst to set up a summoning circle.

Several dazzling lights shone from the center of the shield, and then the communication from Chaldea connected.

"Calling, calling. You should be able to hear me now, right?" Romani Archaman, who was waiting in the control room, immediately established communication. "By the way, you guys were really fast. I just finished checking the underground power plant."

"Romani? Where's Lev? Why are you in command?" Seeing that it wasn't Lev on the screen, Olga Marie immediately became agitated. "Get Lev over here!"

"Huh? Director?!" Romani was a little surprised to see Olga Marie.

But this surprise quickly turned to sorrow.

"I'm sorry, Director. There was an explosion in Chaldea just now. There are only twenty staff members left."

"And... Professor Lev's location was right in the center of the explosion in the Central Control Room. He might already be..." Romani didn't finish his sentence, but the meaning was already crystal clear.

"How could this be?" Olga Marie covered her mouth in disbelief. Lev Lainur was undoubtedly the person she trusted most in Chaldea.

Now, hearing that Lev might already be dead, her legs went weak, and she almost fainted.

"Calm down, Director. I don't think Professor Lev is dead yet."

Seeing this, Mo Wang quickly supported Olga Marie.

"Is what you're saying... true?" Olga Marie looked at Mo Wang blankly, a glimmer of hope in her eyes.

"Of course. Look, even a lazy fish like me made it through the explosion without a scratch, right?"

"And who is Professor Lev? A renowned genius from the Clock Tower. If a mere explosion could kill him, wouldn't that be a joke?"

Mo Wang said to Olga Marie.

"That's true. After all, even at a place like the Clock Tower, Lev was a genius among geniuses. A mere explosion..."

"That's right. As I see it, Professor Lev must be in this city too. Who knows, he might pop out of a sewer any minute now."

"What are you talking about?! Lev isn't a rat! How could he pop out of a sewer?!"

Olga Marie gave Mo Wang an annoyed elbow to the ribs.

"Heh, you never know."

Mo Wang, who had read the script, knew full well what kind of existence that Lev guy was.

Even if he didn't pop out of a sewer, Mo Wang was going to smash him to bits and stuff him into one.

"Is that Lev guy... really still alive?"

Romani was very skeptical of what Mo Wang had said.

After all, that wasn't an ordinary explosion.

Even for Lev, the chances of surviving at the center of the blast were too small.

Unless...

A trace of doubt flashed in Romani's eyes as he curiously sized up Mo Wang.

Could it be... that this guy has figured something out?

"Alright, that's enough of that. Ah, speaking of which, I woke up so early today and haven't even had breakfast yet. How about we grab a bite to eat before we decide what to do?"

Mo Wang didn't give Romani a chance to speak. As he spoke, he pulled out a whole bunch of food from who knows where.

"Director, Mash, want some strawberry cake?" Mo Wang held up a strawberry cake with a large strawberry on top and asked the Director and his junior.

"Wait! Isn't that the limited-edition strawberry cake I worked so hard to buy yesterday?! Why is it in your hands?!" Just then, Dr. Romani's horrified and desperate voice came from the other side of the communication link.

"Hmm? You mean this? I saw a strawberry cake in the fridge last night when I was looking for a midnight snack, and no one seemed to want it, so I took it."

Mo Wang said to Dr. Romani without a hint of guilt.

"Why were you looking for a midnight snack in my fridge?!" Romani looked pitifully at the cake in Mo Wang's hand.

"I was planning to eat that cake while watching Magi Mari's livestream during my break today... I even stood in line for three whole hours." In everyone's eyes, Romani looked as if he were about to burn out, his entire being turning a deathly gray.

"Don't worry. It's not like you'll have a chance to take a break today anyway. By the way, this cake is pretty good. Where did you buy it?" Olga Marie also took a piece without hesitation and started eating, curiously eyeing the pile of snacks Mo Wang had brought out.

By the way, where did he get all this stuff from? Does this guy carry this much food with him every day?

Olga Marie frowned, suddenly remembering that a certain amount of food would go missing from Chaldea every month. Could it be that...

Olga Marie instinctively wanted to scold Mo Wang.

But then, as if she suddenly remembered something, she just sighed helplessly and said nothing.

"Senpai, what should we do next? Should we continue our investigation? Or do we have some other mission?" Mash looked at Mo Wang and Olga Marie, who had already started eating, her eyes filled with worry.

Although they had already contacted Chaldea, they still couldn't leave this place.

Was it really okay for them to just start eating like this?

"Relax, Mash. Panicking won't help in this situation."

"As the saying goes, the boat will straighten itself when it reaches the bridge, and there will always be a way when you get to the mountain. Let's just take it one step at a time. It's not like the situation can get any worse than it is now, right?"

"Instead of thinking about those things, it's better to replenish our energy first. We can't fight on an empty stomach later."

With that, Mo Wang grabbed a sausage and, without giving her a chance to protest, stuffed it into Mash's mouth.

"Mmph~ Mmph!" Although Mash wanted to struggle, after hearing Mo Wang's words, she reluctantly swallowed the sausage in her mouth.

And so, the three of them began their picnic in the Tohsaka Residence.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the city, Lev: Strange, where did they go? Why did they all disappear? Why are these guys so slow?
