In the dim laboratory, only the computer screen glowed faintly, barely illuminating two white faces and one dark face.
But light held no meaning for Tōsen Kaname; in his pale eyes, there was only endless darkness.
All Tosen could do was twitch his ears, using breathing sounds to determine that a third person was present.
The third person's concealment skills were exceptionally high; even at such a close distance, no Spiritual Pressure could be sensed.
"This should be our first formal meeting, Tōsen Kaname?"
Aozaki Reiji said enthusiastically, standing in front of the screen without any intention of moving, his fingers clattering on the keyboard.
"Let me introduce myself, I am Aozaki Reiji, and from now on, we will be comrades fighting side by side."
Tōsen Kaname ignored him and walked straight to Aizen, taking out a glass container.
"Lord Aizen, this is today's haul."
Aizen took the glass container, his lips curving into a smile as he looked at the Souls inside.
"This is the last time; we won't need these anymore. We have a new objective."
"Go and greet Reiji, Tosen."
"Yes, Lord Aizen." Hearing Aizen's command, Tōsen Kaname turned to look at Aozaki Reiji.
"I am Tōsen Kaname, please guide me."
"Please guide me." Aozaki Reiji didn't take his previous rudeness to heart at all, because he didn't care what this guy was thinking.
Tōsen Kaname lost his close friend Kakyō, and afterwards was deceived and toyed with by Tsunayashiro Tokinada, the murderer. Utterly despairing, he was filled with anger and hatred.
Aizen was someone who wanted to change Soul Society, so he chose to follow Aizen, wanting to overthrow this dark world.
He was a walking corpse driven by hatred, so much so that he couldn't even recognize what kind of person he truly was.
Aozaki Reiji clapped his hands, chuckling, "I've finished reading the data, so I'll be taking my leave first, Lord Aizen."
"Go, Reiji." Aizen nodded, "Don't worry, everything has been handled."
Aozaki Reiji turned his back to Aizen, waved his hand, and walked out the door.
After the laboratory door closed, Tōsen Kaname spoke up, "Can that man truly be trusted?"
Aizen's eyes narrowed slightly, and he said confidently, "He will not be content to be a Shinigami. As long as he has that ambition, he will stand by my side."
Aozaki Reiji walked down the street, enjoying the lively street while slowly making his way towards the Maggot's Nest.
That night.
Aozaki Reiji, who had been slacking off all day, arrived at the Maggot's Nest.
Pushing open the door, it was clear that the prisoners had recognized this new administrator, all of them huddled in corners, not daring to move.
But this was only temporary; before long, the confined space would torment their minds, making them numb and forget their fear, causing them to raise their fists at Aozaki Reiji once more.
"Is the modification complete?"
Aozaki Reiji stood at the top of the stairs, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed.
The prisoners behind him glanced at his unguarded back, hesitated for a moment, then lowered their heads.
"It's basically done, just need to put this thing inside."
Ichimaru Gin, standing in front of him, held a machine that looked like a simple computer.
"Aren't you being too kind to that lunatic? Do you really value scientists that much?"
Aozaki Reiji nodded, then turned to glance at the other side of the stairs, seeing a shadow on the ground, and suddenly smiled.
The owner of the shadow wore strange earrings, making the ears of the shadow reflected on the ground triangular.
Noticing his gaze, Ichimaru Gin chuckled dryly:
"That guy is indeed a lunatic. I really don't know what he's thinking, to be so fond of such a ridiculous getup."
"Well, geniuses always have some eccentricities, it's understandable," Aozaki Reiji chuckled.
Among the three geniuses he knew, including Kurotsuchi Mayuri, none of them were normal people.
Except for Mayuri, the mad scientist.
Urahara Kisuke not only often played pranks on others but also loved to slack off.
He was so young yet so frivolous, like a middle-aged uncle, but sometimes he was terrifyingly calm, so contradictory that it made one doubt his mental state.
And Aizen, there's no need to mention him; his ideals were impossibly grand, wanting to overthrow the old order of Soul Society and establish a more just new order.
However, compared to the three, Urahara Kisuke, this eccentric genius, was actually the most like an ordinary person.
"Perhaps... you should try to manage him?"
Ichimaru Gin's expression was one of wanting to speak but hesitating, and he finally couldn't help but tentatively ask.
Many mechanisms had been installed in the room, but he was still a little worried.
That guy named Mayuri, though mad, was indeed very smart.
"Precisely because he is very smart, he knows what to do now. Don't underestimate him; he is a lunatic, yes, but a lunatic with reason."
Aozaki Reiji withdrew his gaze from the ground and said lightly:
"As long as he doesn't go too far, let him be."
Ichimaru Gin fell silent for a moment upon hearing this, then sighed somewhat helplessly.
This guy was always so confident; he really didn't know if he could see through people's hearts or if he was overly confident in his own judgment.
But his judgment had never been wrong, making everything seem so self-evident.
"We meet again, Mr. Mayuri."
Just as Ichimaru Gin's thoughts drifted, Aozaki Reiji's calm voice echoed in the room.
Mayuri didn't even look up, hunched over the table, tinkering with something.
Aozaki Reiji walked in and surveyed the entire room.
The cell had changed dramatically, its area significantly expanded, with half of it converted into a makeshift laboratory.
The room, which originally had only one bed, was now half-filled with simple experimental equipment.
Video bugs were installed around the cell.
These were strange-faced, multi-legged creatures clinging to the corners of the room, capable of transmitting sound and images, functioning similarly to surveillance cameras.
"You don't think those little things will be useful against me, do you?" Mayuri suddenly grumbled in a muffled voice.
"After all, Kisuke made them. His technology is impeccable; I have faith in him."
Aozaki Reiji spread his hands, pulled out a chair, and sat down in front of him.
"And I trust your intellect not to do something stupid like an idiot."
"Oh, so I should thank you for your trust?"
Mayuri sneered, pouting:
"You and Urahara Kisuke are indeed unpleasant things."
"Calling others 'things' is quite impolite, Mr. Mayuri."
Aozaki Reiji's eyes narrowed slightly, and he said with a calm voice and a smile.
A guy with a terrible personality... Mayuri's eye twitched, and he silently got up and walked to the bedside.
If he weren't weaker, he would have already made a move.
Aozaki Reiji followed behind him.
He saw him press a spot on the wall by the bed.
At the pressed spot on the wall, a flash of white light flickered, and a white wall appeared without warning, concealing the laboratory behind it.
