Chapter 2 - Saved by the gods

After the seeker thrusted its sinister claws into his chest and extracted his soul core he dropped dead on the ground in a pool of his own blood.

After a while, Seth woke up.

He found himself in a void, saturated with an eerie atmosphere of dense darkness.

He was falling to his doom, down to the blazing pool of flame below.

Despite the inferno below, his body felt a bit cold and quaky.

'This must be hell.'

The light given off from the flames was the only salvation from complete darkness offered by the void.

He wasn't surprised at how he was going to spend his eternity.

After all the vices he committed when he was living, some of which were just inconceivable by any average-moraled person, why wouldn't he end up here?

In fact, for him, giving him a place to stay with no rent, warmth and solitude was being mild with the punishment he deserved.

'So I'm finally here.'

Throughout his lifetime, he had never been wary of the aftermath or even felt regret of any of his actions but face-to-face with the consequence was a pretty sight for him.

But amidst his sorrow and all his guilt, even in hell, his final scourging thoughts still rested on Millo.

'If I get to spend an eternity in hell, Millo deserved a million times worse. I hope the Grim reaper carves a turkey out of him.'

But still, if he had a chance to go back to the living, a chance to change things, he would grasp any opportunity that passes by.

He closed his eyes as a drop of tear escaped his eyes, an explicit depiction of his inward 'repentance'.

Seconds away from impacting the flames, almost as if someone was listening to his plea, his prayers were answered.

A light appeared just above him and expanded into a larger circle forming a portal.

An arm came out of the portal, grabbed him and pulled him out and through the portal moments before another devastating death.

After passing through the portal, he felt a little dizzy.

He wasn't used to teleportation, especially with such low mana affinity as his.

When he regained self- awareness, he noticed he was seated on a throne in the center of a roofless structure.

He scanned the area around him.

He was in a large enclosed space with walls covered with architectural patterns and design resembling that of a rotunda.

It seemed like the kind of structure that would have been adorned a million years ago but completely unappreciated in the present era.

Its walls were alternatively adorned with crystals of emerald, ruby and sapphire with totems round its internal circumference.

He looked upwards and saw nothing. Nothing but an ominous void that stretched on till the darkest infinity.

The rotunda was segmented with pillars, stretching from the base to the apex of the building.

In each segment, along its perimeter, there was a mage scintilling with their respective dim lights. Behind the mages were large beasts - dragons with scales matching the hue of the aura the mages before then effervescenced.

They all wore blank austere faces, as if they threatened him centerly with their piercing stare.

"Wow, a real-life dragon. I thought they were all extinct," he said purposely ignoring their silent interrogation.

In a glance he estimated their numbers synthesizing what could be playing out here.

Before him was a throne that mocked the size of his. Its height towered so high that it completely shielded the walls its back was against.

Beside the throne was a goddess.

She was clothed in a white flowing apparel as her light skin tone complemented the dim radiance in her aura.

Her dark hair ran through her back's length and her lucid emerald eyes whispered serenity.

The tranquil figure before him sent a stream of calmness through his agitating soul.

Her silent nature told him that she was the one who saved him.

'Welcome, my King,' the goddess spoke in Seth's direction.

Seth was confused, he turned back to check if there was any one behind him, but there was none, so he turned back.

He then deduced that she may actually be referring to him. "Are you talking to me?"

"Yes, my King."

"But I am no King."

"Yes you are Lord. Your memories were hazed in the carnage of the long transpired celestial war. Your body and soul were saved but unfortunately a greater fraction of your power remains lost to the tracks of time."

'What is she talking about? Did I have amnesia or something? I don't think so. All my memories from my life are still there, so what the hell is she talking about?'

The goddess lowered her head almost as if she was begging and said, "I am sorry Lord but infinite properties are challenging to regenerate especially for Celestial beings."

Seth raised up his arm to grab her attention as if he was in a classroom.

She raised her head up.

"Mam, …"

''Aeloria, sir." she butted into his speech.

"Aeloria.., with all due respect. I have no idea what you are talking about and I feel very sorry for this Celestial King, I really do but please I would really appreciate it if you could send me back to earth where I can live my Millo-free life," Seth said as he stressed on the final four words of his request.

"My Lord, unfortunately earth is no longer in existence at the moment. The greater fragment of your dimension is residual in a region I can no longer siphon nevertheless I will send you back to the land of the living."

Seth's face lit up after hearing those words.

"But I do plead that you heed to the advice I will give."

'Ya, or else what?'

"As you will soon know, this is the era speculated long ago for the Reincarnation of the Celestial king. You are well adored by the residents of your realm, but not every one shares the same likeness. Your indispensable core and tremendous power are unjustifiable reasons to why."

The mere thought of having his core ripped out again sent shivers down spine.

"So the best way around would be to keep your identity a secret until you get strong enough to overwhelm any foe."

"Ok. I understand. I won't disclose my identity to anyone. I promise,"he said humbled by a mere thought.

After he assured the goddess, she stretched out her arm towards him and a magic circle appeared beneath his throne.

The mages and dragon by the walls stood up in synchrony.

The magic circle brightened and the dragons opened their mouths and breathed fire towards him, the flames burning with their different colours arising from different angles gave out a colourful spectrum to the void they were in.
