Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

The steppe wolf intended to kill Lu Cai as a sacrifice to its master's spirit.

But it never expected that before it could even touch Lu Cai a powerful and overbearing aura would suddenly descend from the sky!

Lu Cai also sensed something strange but what suddenly arose in his heart wasn't panic but an inexplicable sense of familiarity.

The next second an angry dragon roared accompanied by a fierce claw slamming down on the Steppenwolf's head:

"Filthy creature! You dare to touch my dragon rider!!!"

The Steppenwolf was flying. Lu Cai's eyes widened but before he could utter a cry the Steppenwolf had already fallen to the ground.

It...

No, he...

The Steppenwolf twitched and struggled, turning over, shocked to see its master pinned down.

"Aww!!!!"

Woo-woo-woo-woo-woo... woo!

Zessia's dragon scales behind his ears exploded in anger and he stomped on his head:

"Stop howling like that! You're defiling my ears and the ears of my dear Lu!"

Such a strong wolf, now weak, pitiful and helpless in front of Zeessia like a puppy.

He dared not howl anymore only a low whimpering to barely vent his emotions.

Lu Cai held his forehead and called out to Zeshia with difficulty.

Zeshia immediately retracted his claws and turned to him with dignity and grace: "Dear Lu, it's been a long separation. I miss you terribly. Do you miss me too?"

The last time they met he reminded Lu Cai to maintain his composure and not get too excited. Actually, he felt that his own emergence from the water wasn't very graceful and a bit disrespectful so he could only talk about other things, asking Lu Cai to think about other things first to distract him.

But this time was different.

He was stunning this time!

Having already dispatched a wolf threatening Lu right after his appearance he felt entitled to passionately and unrestrainedly show Lu Cai how much he missed him!

Although Lu Cai didn't quite understand what Zeshia had said watching the spirited dragon gleaming brightly against the dim and gloomy sky, its golden eyes fixed on him intently and passionately he felt a tinge of satisfaction and joy in his heart.

 I've gone crazy.

Lu Cai quickly recovered, pursed his lips and ran over to Zeshiya. After a quick inspection he asked, "You? have you been following me?"

Zesya gladly accepted Lu Cai's touch which he saw as a sign of care and love. He lowered his head and gently nuzzled Lu Cai:

"Yes, I regret not being able to stay with you until the end of that last battle. I don't know why I've been feeling unwell lately and I've been drowsy. So I've been staying a little further away from you to prevent any accidents from harming you."

Lu Cai didn't understand anything else except the word "uncomfortable." He immediately frowned. "What's wrong?"

Zeshia shook his head. The discomfort persisted. After his powerful swoop and the kick he'd just given that ugly creature he felt faintly dizzy again.

He gently nuzzled Lu Cai again. "I don't know. Maybe the food that person gave me is still affecting me. I didn't spit it all out."

Lu Cai immediately remembered what had happened before and frowned in frustration. "Does it hurt? You cannot eat."

He had no idea Zeshia had eaten food given to him by a stranger at the time. It was only after he vomited that she quietly revealed it to him.

Lu Cai felt a little guilty for not taking good care of the child after bringing him out.

Zeshia blinked. Though clearly so massive and ferocious that even the steppe wolves cowered in silence he faced Lu Cai and whispered softly, "Don't be sad Lu. I mean, although I ate the food out of trust because I saw her impersonating you and even though she was incredibly cunning like a vicious demon using sweet words to deceive me it wasn't your fault."

He could see that his dragon knight was a little upset about this. Alas, he really shouldn't have brought this up with Lu Cai.

A gentle gentleman should sympathize with the feelings of all the weak. So pitiful! He nuzzled his Lu.

Unexpectedly, Lu Cai slowly pushed his face away, pondering for a moment before slowly asking, "You said she used sweet words to trick you into eating the food?"

Zeshia nodded seriously and a little aggrieved. "That was so mean! She coaxed me one moment and then lashed out at me the next and I ate it without realizing it."

Lu Cai finally realized what the problem was.

He stared at Zeshia in silence for a moment. Perhaps he still hadn't reacted. Xiao Yu herself from beginning to end hadn't shown any signs of being able to communicate with him.

The person who had tricked Zeshia into eating was able to communicate directly with him, perhaps using ancient Latin or perhaps the dragon language. Either way he was more dangerous than Xiao Yu.

Besides Xiao Yu there was another figure watching them from the darkness.

Lu Cai suddenly felt a little worried. He remembered Yu Xingyan and Sister Feng mentioning during their casual chat that a small team had stayed in the village to clean up.

He had to notify them quickly.

Lu Cai opened his mouth then suddenly became confused. "So how did you realize something was wrong? Was it because you were starting to feel unwell?"

Zeshia shook his head a little shyly saying, "No, it was because I realized it wasn't you that I vomited."

Lu Cai: "?"

He didn't understand what was said and the atmosphere felt a little strange.

Lu Cai stammered, "How did you realize it?"

Zeshia slowly leaned forward, his sharp dragon horn gently rubbing against Zeshia's body leaving Lu Cai subconsciously confused and nervous for a moment.

Zeshia thought he'd made his point clear enough; his body movements, his fiery gaze, made it clear!

After all, even the name "Soul Contract" wouldn't make sense to Lu Cai.

Lu Cai opened his mouth in confusion.

After a long pause he said dryly, "I'll teach you the language."

Otherwise life will be unbearable Lu Cai thought firmly hugging his arms which were slightly covered in goosebumps.

Confirming that Zeshia was at least okay for the time being Lu Cai briefly arranged his route instructing the dragon to maintain contact while concealing its tracks.

He had no idea how Zeshia had confirmed his whereabouts but Zeshia had clearly stated that he could.

This was outrageous.

Language synchronization must be put on the agenda as soon as possible.

Zeshia was still babbling incoherently while Lin Mansen was barely waking up.

Lu Cai quickly told Zeshia to leave, then bent down to clear all traces of him.

While he was doing this the steppe wolf huddled nearby watching cautiously. After Lu Cai destroyed the dragon's claw marks he happened to meet the giant wolf's trembling eyes.

Lu Cai: "..."

Just then Lin Mansen let out a small groan sounding like he was about to wake up. Lu Cai paused, giving the wolf a complex look.

Should he just kill it? After all, it had seen Zeshia before and if it leaked anything his dragon would be in danger.

As if sensing something the steppe wolf stiffened, whimpered softly and shrank even smaller.

Yes, a sense of foreboding.

Lu Cai straightened up, fixed his gaze on the giant wolf and slowly clenched his hands.

It looked like a wolf alpha but unfortunately, perhaps frightened by Zeshia's racial pressure it no longer had the will to fight him.

The sound of a pickup truck approaching came from a distance. It must be Sister Feng and Yu Xingyan, the third child who had noticed something was amiss and returned to look for them.

Let's make this a quick fight Lu Cai thought, frowning.

Who knew that the steppe wolf, desperate for survival, suddenly whimpered softly, then slowly and cautiously scurried up to Lu Cai gently nudging him aside. In a flash it wiped out all the claw marks left by Zeshia then turned to look at him expectantly.

Lu Cai: "???"

This IQ was at least college-educated before the disaster. It was truly unfair for it to have been out in the wild for so long.

So, when the other three arrived and were horrified by the scene before them, Lu Cai stopped Feng Li from carrying the rocket launcher from the trunk.

 Lu Cai: "Wait."

Feng Li didn't dare to do anything to Lu Cai. Lin Mansen was in such a state while Lu Cai was unharmed. Even the dumbest person could see the situation.

She tried her best to look at Lu Cai calmly, her attitude more correct than before: "What do you want?"

As soon as she finished speaking Lin Mansen finally woke up and let out a heartbreaking scream. His shrill wail numbed everyone present and even the look they gave Lu Cai was filled with a certain degree of fear.

Lu Cai: "..."

The misunderstanding seemed to have widened.

Thankfully, Lin Mansen quickly calmed down thanks to the third brother's emergency treatment but he looked at the giant wolf with horror:

"He! He bit off my leg! Kill him! Kill him now!!!"

Sweat streamed down his pale face. The pain was so intense that he couldn't stop struggling. He clung to the third brother with all his might kicking at his remaining leg and roaring at the crowd.

Who knew that the next second the giant wolf howled and flopped down beside Lu Cai carefully nudging its head against Lu Cai's palm.

Feng Li was stunned, Lin Mansen was shocked and Yu Xingyan and the third brother were all stunned.

What the hell?

Lin Mansen's face paled as he trembled, his lips trembling as he looked at Lu Cai in disbelief. "It was you? It was you."

"I killed his master, the boss you offended at the gas station. His body is next to you so he's following me now."

Lu Cai managed to save his life without batting an eyelid. The steppe wolf trembled as he glanced at his former master's corpse before closing his eyes in despair.

He was even a little grateful to this human for concealing the truth that he had personally killed his former master. For a loyal wolf this truth was more devastating than death itself. So please don't let him die. Ugh.

Lu Cai briefly explained the situation. Lin Mansen trembled with shock and anger. He looked at Lu Cai with bloodshot eyes, unable to accept it but unable to find a more reasonable explanation.

That's right, even if Lu Cai truly was a monster even if he truly had some special abilities he was already under a magic-binding ring!

The Magic-Suppressing Ring was even more powerful than the Dispeller. Wearing it disabled not only Dark Matter but even the psychic's own abilities. Therefore, he couldn't accuse Lu Cai of plotting against him!

Who was he exactly?

What terrifying secrets was he hiding?

After a deathly silence, Feng Li forced a smile and slowly nodded.

"I understand. Thank you for saving our team's life."

It's the law of the jungle. If you can't win you have to admit defeat and smile.

Lu Cai looked at Lin Mansen who was crying but didn't dare to say a word and accepted it calmly: "You're welcome."
