The next day, Serena woke up as early as usual took her hydrating bath and soaked in the usual honey and milk, her skin was already glowing, her blemishes were disappearing and she was looking posh, like she'd always lived this high society life.
She arrived at school settling a balance between her human related life and the life on the other side, The Dhampir within, it was a pretty busy schedule but she was already getting settled into it.
At school, she simply did the usual high ponytail, but today she was washed in whispers and stares everywhere she went, probably for making it into the popular kid's circle, she thought until she saw the school newspaper yet again.
This time it was about her crushing some guy's foot, last week he was in the paper for dating three girls in tow everybody hated him, but once his foot got crushed, accidentally by the way the hate was sent to her. Like he was some damsel in distress.
These reporters, even while being so far away Britney Lane was still haunting her, she stormed right into Violet's desk and slammed the paper on the table then angrily asked
"What is the meaning of this?"
"Which girl do you think would be able to smash a leg"
"A dhampir maybe"
"…"
"Ooh, guess the cats out of the bag, now what's mommy's little girly going to do? cry, Seraphina and the mayor are nowhere to save you"
"Do you need a reminder of what happened, the mayor saved you, not me"
"Sure, whatever makes you sleep at night" Serena did not say anything not wanting to expose herself too much, oh how she wanted to crush that Violet, why are people even paid to ruin others' lives.
And just when she thought things could not get worse, Jamien came to her while she was going to class, his feet in a cast and two burly police men with him.
He pointed in her direction and they came to cuff her then started with the cliché
"You reserve the right to remain silent, anything you say or do can and will be used against you in the court of law, you have rights to a lawyer and if you do not have one, one would be provided to you by the state."
She could very easily snap those cuffs but was that not equivalent to admitting she did it, she went to the station looking at him with daggers in place of eyes, then just when things could not get worse, Violet and other reporters swarmed around her taking pictures, seriously!
Soon, she was taken to the station, silent the entire time, then later a cop asked her to answer some questions they had for her, she was taken into an interrogation room and was asked
"Where were you at **** time on the date *****"
"I know how this works Mr. I will not say a word until my lawyer is here plus, I need to get a call to my dad."
Afterwards regardless of how many questions she was asked she completely denied her involvement, that was they began to torture her, first beating her with rods, but her skin was so tough the rods were just bouncing off, she then stood up, and with her arms cuffed dodged the rods, making them hit their comrades, then she got out of the room and took out a phone to call her dad
When her dad arrived, he just took her out, not asking anyone or going through any formal procedure, she wanted to stop him or ask questions but she thought to hell with that if those reporters and cops could legally harass anybody, they should be able to do this too.
She took out a pair of designer sunglasses, donned them for dramatic effect and walked out the police station like a boss, her hands in her fathers as he said to her
"Are you alright?"
"Is it not obvious?"
"Well, yeah, but about Jamien"
"How do you know him, and what about him"
"Okay, he filed the lawsuit against you, but I was able to sort it out since he could not provide sufficient evidence, and in the law, it is inexplicable that a human could do what was on his leg with their bare foot, so the question is what do you want to do about it?"
"I want to do nothing, I think it's okay, Afterall, now that his leg is in a cast he would slow down on hitting on girls"
"Wait you actually did that because he was a player"
"Trying to get mine on me"
"That is not any reason to do something like that"
"Dad, I seriously can't be dealing with this right now"
"When did you start acting like this?"
"I guess I'm learning a bit from hanging out with other kids my age"
"They are a bad influence"
"Can we just go home; this walk has made it past cool to grueling"
"Okay let me order a car"
In minutes a red Ferrari stopped in front of them,
"Okay this was all I could buy on such short notice"
"It's much more than enough" then soon they were in the house, Serena quickly got out of the car then went inside, she had decided to follow her own will, not having to follow anyone's quota.
She looked through her closet and picked up a black shirt, relatively loose, then paired it with black tights and ankle high black boots, then put on her sunglasses from this day forward she did not give a damn about her reputation.
She might be considered condescending but people who just waited for others to slip up or make a mistake so that they could cover it to make them famous just had no life.
She decided that she wanted to do something of her own, and technology has always been her thing, taking Caspians advice she wanted to drop out of school, so she asked her dad about it, at a sitting during lunch time.
"So, you are saying that you have been thinking of something a boy told you, and have come to the conclusion school, which you loved so much, you don't want to go"
"It sounds bad if you put it like that, what I said was, there's this guy I'm texting and he mentioned how education can be useless and educated people fall at the bottom in what I call the employment hierarchy, so I want to create my very own business, and I'm presenting to you the nano chip I single handedly invented, what do you think I would be able to do with a capable team"
"I won't hold you back, but I won't support you either, if you want to do this, you're on your own"
"I wanted to do it on my own either way, so do I need to do anything to drop out of school"
"All I did when I dropped out was stop attending"
"Wait, what?"
"Yeah, but at the time you were a baby and someone had to take care of you while Anne was at school"
The mention of her mom's name left a sting once again, but not dwelling on that she thought, what's best to do moving forward, and there she decided to go to the only person she knew at school that was still on neutral terms with her, so it would not look like she was extorting from her friends, Trisha Devlin.
She told her about her whole brand, about how she wanted to create groundbreaking inventions with technology with the aim of making things still require as much human input as possible meaning the inventions were less autonomous, she thought it was great but the final decision lay with her mother Alyssa Devlin, who was a diva in the truest sense and could reject the idea based on the smallest mistake.
She attached a reference to the nano-chip she invented two years ago and now that she did what she could the rest was up to Alyssa. Then she took out a book and outlined everything she wanted to uncover, the whole deal on Elaine and Lance, Sophia, Seraphina, the werewolf, The tapestry, every time she thought she could see the picture in HD more blurred variables were included.
It all was becoming overcomplicated, but she was driven to uncover all the mysteries, maybe to keep her occupied, to sate curiosity or because her very life might hang on these facts, at that moment she never believed more that knowledge was power, never as much as she did at that exact moment.
She, then decided to take her mind off those worries and called Caspian, on the phone she told him about the business and he was super proud and supportive willing to invest in fact, but she told him she wanted to do it from her personal effort and hard work.
Later, he asked her out again, this time to a romantic dinner date at a hotel restaurant, but she just knew what those words were playing at and had to reject. Instead, she proposed to go to somewhere like an amusement park which he agreed to.
