Chapter 4 - Even without any talent, I will never give up

After Helena's long explanation, Evan felt as if he had opened the door to a whole new world.

Still curious, he asked Helena, "So, why don't ordinary people train? Even if they won't become as strong as top adventurers, at least they could strengthen their bodies and make work easier."

Helena looked at Evan with mild surprise, then replied calmly,

"It's because of talent. Talent is inherited from parents to children. The stronger the parents, the more likely their children will have good talent. Ordinary people have ordinary genes, so their ability to absorb energy from monster meat is lower, and the effects of training are also weaker."

She continued, "Besides, they have to work to earn money, so they barely have time to train. Unless they become actual adventurers earning money from hunting monsters, they won't have enough funds to buy powerful monster meat. If they only consume weak monster meat—or even livestock, which contains far less energy—combined with ineffective training, the results will be almost negligible."

Evan was shocked to hear about talent. His parents were ordinary, which meant he, too, had only ordinary talent.

Suddenly, Evan realized that the road ahead would be extremely difficult, perhaps even nearly impossible. Thinking about this, his expression darkened, and his mood grew gloomy.

Still, he didn't give up. Evan looked at Helena with hopeful eyes and asked, "Has there ever been a child of ordinary people who became a great adventurer in the past?"

Helena understood Evan's feelings. Almost all adventurers felt the same way, but she couldn't lie to give false hope. With a regretful tone, she said, "No… Although a few adventurers in the past started as ordinary children and became strong, they only ever reached the highest level 6."

Evan's last shred of hope was crushed. The flame of ambition that had just ignited dimmed again. His fists clenched, and his heart felt tight.

Yet, a voice deep inside him stirred once more, reminding him never to give up, just like when he had struggled with the previous adventurer.

Seeing Evan lose hope, Helena felt slightly guilty and tried to comfort him. "Even so, you can still become an adventurer. Level 6 is very strong, and you'll be able to earn a lot with your abilities. Also, your children in the future will inherit greater talent, so don't be pessimistic," she said, her voice soft and reassuring.

Evan smiled again—not because of Helena's comforting words, but because he genuinely didn't want to give up. As a reincarnator, he had a strong desire for adventure from all the novels and anime he had read. He believed there would be opportunities waiting for him on the path of adventure.

Thinking this, he smiled and said to Helena, "Thank you for helping me today, Helena. I've decided to remain an adventurer. When I have extra money, I'll treat you to dinner as a token of my gratitude." His tone was gentle and full of appreciation.

Helena smiled with relief, happy to see Evan's spirit restored. "Good, I'm glad you didn't lose heart. As for dinner, it really isn't necessary. This is part of my job as the guild receptionist. And here, this is your adventurer card and badge," she said enthusiastically, handing Evan a card and a metal badge.

Seeing her insist, Evan didn't force her hand. He accepted the card and badge, then went to the second floor to read information about monsters.

That night, around half past six, Evan returned to the inn. He went up to his room and saw his mother and younger sister already there.

Catherine, who was talking with Reyna, looked up when she saw her son arrive late. She stood and glared at Evan sharply. "Where have you been? Reyna already told me what happened today. Didn't I ask you to watch over Reyna? Yet you went off alone until late?" Her tone carried a mix of anger and disappointment.

Evan only explained that he had registered at the adventurer guild.

This only made his mother more upset and anxious. "Why did you join a guild? Being an adventurer is dangerous. How could I survive if you were killed in the forest?" Her eyes were red, and a few tears slipped down.

Evan had expected her reaction. His father had died, killed by a monster, leaving her a widow raising two young children alone. Her trauma from that loss made her extremely cautious.

But Evan would not waver in his decision. He looked his mother in the eye firmly. "I've made up my mind. Whether it's for my dreams or to give our family a better life, I will become an adventurer. But don't worry, Mom, I'll start small—hunting small creatures, like horned rabbits," he said, speaking in a reassuring tone.

Catherine was struck by how mature her son's demeanor had become. Without realizing it, Evan was no longer a child. He could protect his family and help his mother. Realizing that her efforts had not been in vain, tears welled up in Catherine's eyes.

She covered her face with both hands, trying to hide the streaming tears. Seeing this, Evan panicked. He stepped forward quickly and held his mother's shoulders.

"Mom… why are you crying? Did I say something wrong?" he asked, worry in his voice.

Catherine shook her head, then pulled Evan into a hug.

"No, Evan… it's just… I'm proud of you," she said, her voice trembling.

Jika mau, aku bisa juga membuat versi bahasa Inggris ini lebih "mengalir" lagi untuk novel, dengan gaya narasi yang lebih cinematic dan dramatis. Apakah mau dicoba dibuatkan versi itu juga?
