Ethan had written honestly about the conversation with her father and about the marriage proposal. There were no fancy decorations in the writing, and he did not try to hide his thoughts behind complicated phrases. The words were clear and direct, just like the man who had written them.
Amber slowly read the lines again while standing beside the window.
Her fingers tightened slightly around the edge of the paper as her eyes moved across the last lines.
"The mountain does not love the sky any less for the valleys that came before. My heart has many peaks, but I am asking you to be the summit where I finally rest. Will you walk this path as my wife?"
For a long moment she remained silent.
The quiet room was filled only with the faint sound of wind brushing against the castle walls outside.
