Chapter 27
In the following days, the growth of Your Lie in April remained astonishingly rapid.
By Wednesday, the number of votes had already drawn incredibly close to the first-place work Fairy Ring!
First place: Fairy Ring — Votes: 5987
Second place: Your Lie in April — Votes: 5670
And since the past two days, many book reviewers across the internet had been promoting Your Lie in April.
---
At this time, inside One Side of the Moon—the company registered by Elf Yamada and her brother Chris Yamada for animation production—several responsible members had gathered in the office. Elf Yamada herself called it the Crystal Palace.
The author Elf Yamada was running around the office in agitation, clutching her tablet.
At first, when the new editor-in-chief Suzuki warned her that she should strengthen the promotion of Fairy Ring, she had brushed it off. Her old work's animation was at a critical stage, and she didn't have time to manage both. Besides, she still held the top spot comfortably back then.
She thought the gap was too large for anyone to close so quickly.
But now, when she looked at the numbers today—her hands trembled.
The votes for Your Lie in April were rising frantically with each passing moment! The difference between her Fairy Ring and Ryuo Tenshin's Your Lie in April was down to just a few hundred!
Even the ever-proud Elf Yamada couldn't help but panic.
"Why… why are Your Lie in April's votes rising so fast?! Chris, Elmi, what should I do?!"
Chris Yamada, the tall blond man who looked like an elf king, leaned over to check the data himself. He was her brother and also the editor-in-chief of her soon-to-be-animated work The Exploding Dark Fairy.
Beside them sat Elmi, a red-haired illustrator and Elf Yamada's childhood friend, who had often worked with her in the past.
Chris raised his brows at the screen. "...Impressive. At this pace, Your Lie in April will surpass Fairy Ring soon. If you really want Eromanga-sensei to work with you, you can't just sit still."
Elf Yamada bit her lip, frustration flashing in her eyes.
"Damn Ryuo Tenshin… fine! Chris, I'll start a livestream. I'll rally my servants—my fans. With my influence as an animation writer, I can definitely make up the difference again!"
Chris frowned. "Your old work's animation is already running into problems. Your time shouldn't be wasted on this. But…" He sighed. "If it's your wish to work with Eromanga-sensei, I won't stop you."
Meanwhile, Elmi, ever carefree, continued tapping away on her phone game. "I still don't get it. You were doing perfectly fine in your old publisher. Why come to Dengeki Bunko and stress yourself out? Now you're juggling too much."
Elf Yamada puffed her cheeks, clearly annoyed. "Elmi, you don't understand! Eromanga-sensei is the goddess of illustration. Her art is the pinnacle of light novels! I have to work with her, no matter what!"
"I'll start the livestream right now. I'll get my servants to vote for me, and I'll crush that Ryuo Tenshin to prove it!"
---
Half an hour later, with the help of her publisher, Elf Yamada went live. To pull in not only her fans but also casual passers-by, she even invested heavily in giveaway promotions.
The results were immediate. The livestream filled with excited viewers, her "servants," who spammed the chat with encouragement.
Elf Yamada leaned toward the camera, her eyes sparkling.
"Have you read the first part of my new work, the Fairy Ring series? It's serialized in the Dengeki Novel Daily and is currently ranked first on the newcomer list! Don't forget—if you buy the magazine, you can vote with the receipt. My servants, vote for me!"
"And those who vote will be entered into a giveaway here in the livestream! I have the latest gadgets, signed copies of my works, and even complete sets of The Exploding Dark Fairy, which is about to be animated!"
The audience chat exploded:
"Supporting Elf-sama forever!"
"I already voted today! Keep fighting, Fairy Lady!"
"You're the best, we'll help you win!"
Votes started flooding in. Elf Yamada's smile widened as confidence returned. With her fans rallying behind her, there should be no problem holding onto first place.
Still… she couldn't forget how Ryuo Tenshin's work had climbed from third to second in just a few days. She had to stay vigilant.
For once, she stayed focused the entire stream—no games, no slacking.
But just as she was about to log off, she spotted a new comment in the chat:
"Elf-sama, Fairy Ring has been surpassed by Your Lie in April!"
Elf Yamada froze. Her eyes narrowed. Clearly, this was some troll trying to shake her confidence.
"Hah? Who is this little black-hearted liar? Impossible! My work is still first. Ban him!"
Her assistant quickly obliged and muted the commenter.
Elf exhaled, relief washing over her. "See? Nothing to worry ab—"
But just seconds later, the chat exploded with new messages.
"Elf-sama, it's true! Your Lie in April just took first place!"
"The rookie king has changed hands!"
"Fairy-sensei, you've been surpassed!"
"Ikaros-sensei's Your Lie in April is now number one!"
Elf Yamada's hands trembled as she stared at the screen, her proud smile faltering.
