Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Goodbye We Never Wanted

Days passed, yet the dream's grip on Elena only deepened. She found herself speaking aloud in the solitude of her home, words carrying across empty rooms as if reaching for someone who could hear them. Each evening, under the cloak of twilight, she felt a presence—a pull stronger than gravity, pulling her toward the garden where past and present seemed to collide.

Then one evening, the wind shifted, and she felt a hand brush against hers, warm and familiar. "I've missed you," a voice whispered, one that resonated deep in her bones. It was him—her love, her twin flame, the other half of her soul she had longed for across lifetimes.

They met in the garden, a place suspended between worlds, where time felt fragile and fleeting. Every glance, every touch, ignited memories of centuries—lives of laughter, of promises made under skies now vanished. The air around them shimmered with the weight of their shared past, every heartbeat a drum calling them together.

Yet fate, ever cruel, was not finished testing them. He looked at her with eyes shadowed by regret. "I cannot stay," he whispered. "Not yet. But I will find you—always." Elena clutched his hands, unwilling to let go, her tears falling freely. The sorrow of goodbye stretched between them, tangible and sharp, yet beneath it lay a current of hope, a promise unbroken.

As he disappeared into the night, the stars seemed to weep with her. Each step she took afterward was guided by the memory of his touch, the echo of his voice, and the certainty that their souls were bound across the ages, destined to find each other again no matter the obstacles.
