*Tap, tap, tap!*
The sound of hurried footsteps could be faintly heard from outside the door.
Raven instinctively turned her head toward the entrance, her pupils constricting.
The first person she saw was a long-haired man in a wheelchair—Charles, of course!
Beside Charles stood a middle-aged man with a rebellious air and a hint of authority—Erik!
Further back, a quiet, bespectacled young man was pushing Charles's wheelchair—Hank, naturally!
"Charles, Erik, Hank!" Raven exclaimed, her voice a mix of confusion and delight.
These were all people who held deep significance in her life.
Charles was, of course, her lifelong companion, practically family. If he hadn't taken her in all those years ago, Raven might still be living a life of wandering and stealing to survive.
And Erik?
Though she had known him for a relatively short time, Erik had become like a soul mentor to Raven, guiding her spirit and aligning perfectly with her beliefs.
It was ironic, really. One would expect the telepath Charles to understand Raven best, yet it was Erik who truly did.
That Hank guy? He's Raven's most devoted sycophant.
*Great, they've all come at once.*
As for the last one to enter—that burly, wild-looking man—Raven had to admit she didn't recognize him at all.
"What are you all doing here?" Raven asked, staring at them in surprise.
"Raven, we've come for you. Erik and I are with you!"
Charles, pushed in his wheelchair by Hank, rolled right up to Raven.
"Are you here to stop me?" Raven's cheerful smile faltered as she suddenly remembered what kind of person Charles was. She knew him too well.
"Raven, I know you want to kill him. I know what he's done. But he can't die."
"Trust me."
Sure enough, Charles said with a grave expression.
"After all these years, you still haven't changed." Raven's face fell, disappointment evident.
Without another word, she ignored Charles and raised her gun, aiming to kill the restrained Trask.
But before she could pull the trigger, Raven found her body frozen in place.
"Charles, let go of me! You promised you wouldn't use your powers on me!" Raven shouted at Charles, her voice filled with anger.
"Raven, it's not that simple," Charles said patiently. "I've seen the future. It all begins with Trask's death—a future of unimaginable darkness. His death affects the fate of countless Mutants."
"What are you talking about?" Raven was completely bewildered.
"Do you know why I'm here? Because someone from the future warned us. We know Trask can't die."
"See that man over there...?" Charles glanced at Wolverine, trying to explain to Raven.
But as he looked, he noticed Wolverine staring intently at a guard standing near Trask, his expression suddenly changing. He seemed to be in great pain.
"Logan?" Charles raised an eyebrow. Wolverine didn't seem right.
He immediately tried to probe with his telepathic abilities.
*Well, well... The man Wolverine is staring at is Stryker!*
*Stryker... Is that you?*
Charles couldn't help but steal another glance at Stryker.
That man was the lifelong enemy of Mutants.
Not only was he dedicated to eradicating them himself, but his son was equally committed.
Furthermore, Charles had seen Wolverine's memories and knew exactly what Stryker had done to him.
So, he immediately understood Wolverine's reaction.
*Swish!*
Charles instantly used his telepathic abilities on Wolverine, helping him calm down.
Erik, seeing this, immediately used his powers to "telekinesis" a gun and point it at Raven.
Just like in the original movie, he intended to eliminate her permanently, cutting off any future threat.
But how could Charles, who had already learned of this from the diary, let Erik succeed?
From the moment he entered the room, Charles had been fully monitoring Erik with his telepathic abilities.
The instant the murderous intent flashed through Erik's mind, Charles detected it.
Without a word, Charles unleashed another telepathic blast, freezing Erik in place.
"Goddammit, Erik!" Charles couldn't help but shout at him.
Even though she had known about this from the diary, Raven still couldn't remain calm.
Erik had actually gone through with it.
He had actually been willing to do it!
That was Raven!
"Charles, you told me what happened."
"I'm protecting our future!"
Erik, completely immobilized, struggled to move his mouth, forcing out his explanation to Charles.
"Not like this!" Charles retorted, his voice ringing with conviction. "We can't sacrifice Raven!"
"I don't want to sacrifice Raven either, but Charles, she's the key to everything!"
"If I had to choose between her and billions of Mutants, I'd have to choose the latter."
Erik had his own logic.
"What are you two even talking about?" Raven asked, her voice growing increasingly frantic. She still hadn't fully processed it, her disbelief palpable. "Erik, were you really going to kill me?"
*Slap!*
Hank grabbed Erik by the collar, his face contorted with rage. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
"I believe you know exactly what I'm doing," Erik replied calmly.
"Erik, listen. Like you, I don't want the Sentinel Robots to be created again. But we don't have to sacrifice Raven."
"We know how important Raven is, but *they* don't, okay?"
"As long as they don't capture Raven, everything will be fine."
Charles began to persuade Erik, his gaze sharpening. "If you don't abandon this idea, I won't hesitate to send you back to where you belong."
"You always manage to convince me, Charles."
After a moment's hesitation, Erik chose to compromise.
With Charles having regained his powers and Erik lacking his helmet, that had been their only chance.
And Erik had failed to seize it.
Moreover, Erik had also been persuaded by Charles.
Charles was a master of persuasion.
As a telepath, he immediately sensed that Erik had truly abandoned the idea from the bottom of his heart.
He withdrew his powers, instantly freeing Erik.
"Raven," Hank said, stepping forward to take the gun from her hand. "Come back with us. The situation is more complicated than you think."
"You don't understand, Hank, Charles," Raven retorted, her voice filled with resentment. "Do you know how many of our people he's killed? His hands are stained with Mutant blood! I have to kill him."
"Trust me, he will get what he deserves," Charles said to Raven with a serious expression. "Don't you believe me?"
"Although I've always disagreed with Charles's methods, Raven, this time, he's right," even Erik told her.
Charles had explained to him that Trask's death had only further spurred the human government to accelerate its research into Sentinel Robots. This was precisely why Erik hadn't killed Trask immediately. Otherwise, given his nature, he would have eliminated Trask himself, without Raven needing to lift a finger.
Raven looked from Charles to Erik. After a fierce internal struggle, she finally abandoned her original plan for the time being. She wasn't foolish. If even Charles and Erik, who were usually at odds, had joined forces to stop her, there must be a massive hidden reason behind it. Moreover, with both of them united against her, she had no chance of success. What choice did she have but to back down?
"Everyone, we need to leave quickly. Someone's coming," Wolverine, now fully recovered, warned the mutants after peering through the door crack. "I have a few loose ends to tie up."
Charles, however, spoke up.
He then had Hank push him around the room, altering the memories of everyone present.
He erased all recollections of Raven's sudden assassination attempt.
Of course, he didn't spare those who had just entered the room to investigate.
As a result, after they left, Trask and the others would have no memory of Raven ever having been there.
"Alright, let's go," Charles said, calling out to the Mutants after he'd finished.
He swaggered out of the room with the group.
Only after they had completely vanished did the scene return to normal.
Trask's frozen body regained its mobility.
As if nothing had happened, he resumed his presentation of the Sentinel Robot project.
The outcome, however, was predictable.
Just as before, no one took the project seriously.
Many even dismissed Trask as a fraud.
Meanwhile, Charles Xavier and the others, guided by Charles's telepathic abilities, became invisible to everyone's eyes.
They swaggered out of the heavily guarded Royal Grand Hotel without raising a single alarm.
They returned to the Blackbird Fighter without incident.
"Alright, now you can finally tell me what's going on," Raven said, her voice tight with frustration. She'd been holding back this question all the way back.
*Wasn't Erik supposed to be in prison? How did he suddenly get out? And why is he working with Charles to stop me? Most importantly, he tried to kill me just now!*
Everything had happened so suddenly that Raven felt her mind couldn't keep up.
"Raven, it's a long story," Charles replied. He explained everything about the *Days of Future Past* timeline in full detail, holding nothing back.
Raven listened, stunned.
But Raven wasn't ordinary. She knew Mutants were capable of incredible things. So she didn't doubt Charles's words.
"So, a butcher like Trask has to stay alive?"
"Because his death would accelerate the development of the Sentinel Robots?"
"And create more like him?"
Raven couldn't accept this.
"Based on everything we know, yes. Trask must live."
Charles nodded.
"Then we'll kill them all!" Raven's voice still seethed with rage.
"That's not a bad idea," Erik said, shrugging in agreement.
Raven's style was pure Magneto.
"We all know doing so will only put Mutants in a more precarious position," Charles pointed out sharply.
"More precarious?" Erik scoffed. "Charles, wake up! How much worse can things get?"
"Our people are being experimented on, sent to battlefields, used as their lab rats and war machines."
"What's left for us but fear, despair, and pain?"
"They're already developing Sentinel Robots to exterminate us!"
*The knife is at our throats, man! It could fall at any moment. And you're still talking about this?*
"You're right, Erik."
"You're right!"
Charles was also deeply troubled. After a long silence, he nodded heavily.
"Then we must change everything!" Charles declared forcefully.
"Save it, Charles. Your vision of us and humans coexisting in harmony is nothing but a deluded fantasy!"
Erik scoffed derisively.
His old friend was admirable in every way, and he genuinely wanted to do something for mutants.
But there was one flaw: he was far too naive.
Humans couldn't even tolerate different skin colors, let alone different genes?
"Yes, Erik, I made a mistake."
"Though I possess the world's most powerful mind, I failed to see the truth."
Erik had expected Charles to lecture him, but he never imagined he would actually admit this.
Erik froze in surprise.
Not just Erik, but Raven, Hank, and even Wolverine were equally stunned.
They stared at Charles with unfamiliar eyes.
He had changed!
Charles had changed!
He was no longer the Charles they knew.
"My methods were indeed flawed. I imagined humanity far too kindly."
"And that led to a disastrous future. I hope it's not too late to recognize this now."
Under everyone's gaze, Charles continued speaking earnestly, his face serious.
He had made up his mind. He had to change.
From now on, mutants would never again be humanity's lapdogs!
That was wrong.
