The walk back to the pack house felt different.
Each step sent ripples of silver light through the ground beneath my feet. The frost that had crunched under our boots moments ago now melted in perfect circles around where I'd walked, leaving patterns that looked like ancient symbols burned into the earth.
"Aria," Kai said quietly, his voice carrying the kind of careful tone people used around unstable explosives. "Your eyes are glowing."
I stopped walking and touched my face, feeling skin that hummed with energy I'd never experienced before. "How much glowing are we talking about?"
"Enough that I can read the pack house address from here. And we're still half a mile away."
