Chapter 70 - Chapter 70 Erza's First Commission

After Noah and Laxus finished talking about everything, they walked out of the room together. Erza and Kagura had almost finished cooking, so Noah and Laxus hurried over to help.

After everyone finished eating and cleaned up, Laxus said goodbye and went home, while Erza and Kagura kept staring at Noah with wide eyes.

Noah knew they were curious about the afternoon battle, especially what kind of powerful magic Laxus used at the end, and why Noah didn't want them telling others about the specific details of his fight with Laxus.

Noah thought for a moment and said:

"Laxus knows a very special kind of magic, but I can't tell you the details. Not just for Laxus's sake, but for yours too.

If you're not strong enough, knowing some secrets can be dangerous for you. When both Laxus and you are stronger, I'll let you know the details.

So go study and get stronger so you can learn the truth as soon as possible."

After Noah finished speaking, he sent them off to study. Both girls looked at him with annoyance since he'd gotten them curious without giving them answers.

But they didn't doubt Noah's words. They weren't strong enough right now, and knowing some secrets really would be dangerous. So they threw themselves into studying, even if they were grumpy about it.

Two days later, Laxus had fully recovered with help from the potions and couldn't wait to challenge Noah to another fight. Of course, Noah didn't refuse and beat Laxus soundly.

During the battle, Noah noticed that the Dragon Slayer magic Laxus used had improved slightly, which made him fight with more excitement.

However, after the battle, Noah told Laxus to wait at least two weeks before coming to fight him at full strength again. This would give him enough time to recover and do jobs. Laxus was reluctant but agreed.

A month passed like this. Noah didn't go out on jobs, but instead researched potions and magic at home. He wanted to create formulas suitable for selling that Jude could use in business, while still training with Erza and Kagura every day.

Laxus came to fight Noah twice, and both times he arrived exactly on time, never late by even a single day. You could tell Laxus really wanted to improve his strength as quickly as possible.

After a few more days, Noah watched Erza and felt that her strength was sufficient for now.

So Noah found Erza and said:

"Didn't you want to take on jobs before? I didn't think you were strong enough then, but after this month's training, I think you're ready to start taking jobs."

Just as Erza's face lit up with happiness, she heard Noah continue:

"But! The jobs we take have to be approved by Master, and they can only be within Magnolia.

Your current strength doesn't face much danger within Magnolia, but it's still not enough to handle the dangers outside."

Erza was still happy that she could take jobs. Noah's requirements were what she'd expected, since Noah had made Simon follow the same rules before.

Then Erza thought of something and asked:

"I heard from everyone in the guild that Brother Noah had to follow the same rules from Master?"

"To be exact, when I first asked to do jobs, Master didn't agree. I was the one who suggested those requirements.

I was only 6 years old then, and Master was worried about me taking jobs. I came up with all the requirements myself, trying to reassure Master in three ways: strength, job scope, and job approval.

Actually, I think Master was right to do that, because it shows he cares about his family. It's exactly because we're all partners and family that he worries about our safety.

What we need to do is make our family feel at ease and not worry about our safety."

So when you weren't strong enough, I wouldn't let you take jobs. Now that you're strong enough, of course you can take jobs. Let's go to the guild together to pick one out."

"Brother Noah, do you want to do the job with me? Shouldn't I do it alone?" Erza asked, confused.

"Of course you'll do it yourself, but I'll come with you on your first job so you can get familiar with the process. I went with Simon on his first job too."

Noah explained this to Erza. She didn't know much about Simon's early jobs before, but now she understood that Noah had gone with Simon on his first one, so she had no more questions.

Noah and Erza went to the guild's job board together. Erza immediately spotted a job and took it down. Noah asked in surprise:

"Are you sure you want this job? This one won't be easy for you."

"I'm sure. And since you're not stopping me, Brother Noah, it means I can complete this job."

Erza turned to look at Noah, her eyes sparkling with confidence. Noah sighed.

"You're really sharp. I thought you'd choose something like finding lost items, but you went straight for this one. For your first job, you could start with something simpler." Noah tried to convince her.

Erza replied firmly:

"No, I want to challenge myself and keep improving my strength. There are always strong people like Brother Noah who keep moving forward. I don't want to be left too far behind. I want to catch up to or even surpass Brother Noah as soon as possible!"

Noah saw the fire in Erza's eyes. It was a look with real purpose, so he stopped trying to change her mind. Instead, he went to the counter with Erza to find Makarov.

Erza handed the job request to Makarov. When Makarov saw that it was Erza giving it to him, he looked at Noah in surprise:

"Is Erza going to start taking jobs? Do you think she's strong enough?"

Noah nodded:

"Erza's strength is good enough. Like I did before, she'll complete jobs within Magnolia. The jobs also need your approval, Master."

Makarov looked at the request in his hand:

"This job just came in this morning. I was planning to have someone else handle it right away, but I'm worried it might be too much for Erza."

"Master, I want to try it, and Brother Noah will come with me, so the job won't fail."

Erza stared at Makarov with bright, determined eyes. Makarov turned to look at Noah, who nodded.

"I'll go with Erza this time, since it's her first time and she needs to learn the process."

Makarov thought about it but couldn't bring himself to crush Erza's enthusiasm, so he nodded in agreement. Still, he said to Erza:

"Just do your best. If you can't handle it, let Noah take over. Don't push yourself too hard."

"I understand, Master."

Erza nodded firmly and walked out of the guild with Noah.
