Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: The Fall of the Witchheart Demon

The sudden turn of events left all the sinister undead in shock.

Those caught within the holy light were instantly purified, leaving not even a trace behind. Those outside the light were not destroyed, but they too became weak, trembling in fear, unable to move.

It was not only ordinary undead who were affected. Even the Witchheart Demon himself was shaken, so much so that he forgot to finish off Vog beneath his feet.

But he had no chance to act again.

At that very instant, a white energy blast shot out from within the church, aimed directly at him.

The blast tore through the air like a storm, unstoppable and fierce. In an instant, it struck him head-on.

Boom!

Like a ball kicked through the air, the Witchheart Demon was sent flying with a twisted expression, smashing into a row of houses behind him and reducing them to rubble.

"Pathetic. You dare to talk about ruling this planet? Who gave you that confidence?"

The terrifying energy blast that had hurled him away came from a tall, beautiful figure who stepped out of the church.

It was none other than Ikaros.

As Jason Kin's half-divine apostle, she had always been his hidden ace. Normally, she never needed to act. The two priests could handle most matters, and even if they could not, Laffey and Bismarck were more than capable of finishing the job.

But today, for the first time, Ikaros herself stepped forward.

Not because the others were incapable, but simply because she wished to take action. Ever since her awakening, she had not once been assigned a mission. She had been waiting for an opportunity, often reminding Jason of her eagerness. Finally, that day had come.

Her stunning face carried open disdain. It was contempt not only for the howling undead but also for the so-called son of Hell's lord, the Witchheart Demon.

"Who are you?!"

Though her energy blast had pierced his body, the Witchheart Demon was not so easily destroyed. As the son of a Hell ruler, his vitality was monstrous. Roaring in rage, he rose from the ruins.

The black tide that had engulfed the town flowed back into him. His wounds healed instantly before the eyes of all.

"I am the apostle of the Lord of Life, Ikaros. I stand here to judge you in his name!"

She raised a finger and pointed coldly at him.

"Judge me? Ridiculous!" the Witchheart Demon spat. "You think a single scratch means you can defeat me? Foolish dream. I will show you the terror of Hell!"

With a furious motion, he raised his arms. A vast scroll unfurled behind him, expanding into a black, lifeless gate. From within seeped waves of thick, inky darkness.

Horrid skeletons and undead poured forth, screeching with ear-piercing cries as they crawled out.

The gate's presence alone revived the weakened undead around the town, filling them with even greater savagery.

The scene was so terrifying that none would doubt it was Hell itself manifesting.

"My God…"

"Are we in Hell already?"

"It's over, the undead are attacking again!"

"Are we doomed after all?"

Inside the church, despair overtook the townsfolk.

But unlike them, Ikaros smiled coldly.

"You think this compares to my Lord's divine majesty?"

She whispered softly, then raised her hand.

"Holy and radiant Lord of Life, your humble apostle borrows your power to cleanse this land of all evil!"

Her eyes opened wide, and dazzling white light shone within. Her raised finger pointed to the sky.

"Divine light descend, let evil be erased!"

In an instant, the heavens blazed. The dark night turned to day as beams of holy light, like falling stars, rained across the vast sky.

Beautiful, brilliant, breathtaking to behold.

But for the undead, this radiance was death itself.

Their shrieks echoed as they burned to ash, powerless to resist.

A booming roar shook the earth as a massive white energy sphere, like a miniature sun, formed at Ikaros's fingertip.

The Witchheart Demon froze. The aura it gave off was overwhelming, holy and terrifying, the natural nemesis of Hell's creatures.

"This is impossible!" he gasped, fear creeping into his eyes. The pressure alone made him want to flee.

But as the son of Mephisto, how could he retreat? That would be disgrace. He forced down his terror, summoning more and more undead through the black scroll behind him.

Yet every creature that emerged was instantly annihilated by the divine light. Screams filled the night as one after another turned to dust.

At last, not a single undead dared to come forth. Even they trembled in fear of the holy radiance.

"So this is all you can do? Then crawl back to Hell where you belong!"

Ikaros's voice was cold as she thrust her hand forward.

The glowing sphere shot across the air faster than sight could follow.

The Witchheart Demon barely had time to raise his arms before a blinding eruption of holy fire engulfed him.

"No!" he roared. Black tides surged up in desperation to block the blast. But the waves of darkness were instantly erased, consumed by the divine light.

The radiance swallowed him whole. Flesh and blood melted away, leaving only charred bone.

So mighty, yet he could not resist even a moment against the holy light.

"This cannot be!" he screamed in disbelief.

"There is nothing impossible. Evil has no place in this world. Return to Hell where you belong," Ikaros's icy voice echoed.

His bones disintegrated. His body was erased. Nothing remained.

Yet even in death, his voice lingered, filled with venom.

"Do not rejoice, human. We will return. My father, the lord of Hell, will bring countless undead to this world. Humanity will fall. Hahaha!"

Ikaros scoffed.

"Even dead, you still talk too much."

Her figure flickered. She appeared where he had perished and picked up the sealed scroll from the ground. She weighed it in her hand, smirking.

"Interesting. My master will like this."

With a casual toss, she threw the sealed San Venganza Contract to the stunned Vog.

"Are you alright?" she asked coolly.

Vog shook his head quickly. "I am fine, thanks to you, Apostle. You saved my life, I am eternally grateful!"

"You should thank the Lord of Life. Without his will, I would not have come."

"Yes, yes, the Lord of Life is almighty. I, your humble servant, will forever serve at his side!" Vog replied devoutly.

"Good. Remember that. Keep this scroll safe and next time, offer it as tribute to my Lord."

With that, a divine light wrapped around her figure, and in the blink of an eye, Ikaros vanished.
