Chapter 3 - Escaping the Horde

"Come on, come on, do your thing…" watching the display with the crimson beam of light reaching their location at an extremely fast speed, most of the crew couldn't help but hold on to their seats as they wait for something to happen, still in quite the nervous state despite this tactic being one employed be their commander often when they are outgunned by the enemy.

"Hold on for just a little bit more, my fair lady, let us escape this place together…" looking at the beam of light within just a few hundred meters of distance from them, the figure mutters under his voice as even he himself feels like this is a disaster that is just beginning, and if they managed to perfectly deflect this attack, then even if it is just a minute increase, their chances of escaping this situation will increase as well.

As all of the people onboard of this Star Vessel, whether if it is the ones in the command room housing their Commander, or the other parts of the ship where other workers are located, maintaining the integrity and quality of the Vessel as it fights outside, the attack from the Decadents finally hit their barrier, the respond a second later making them shout in celebration as they watches the beams being reflected back towards the fleet of approaching Decadent from the distance.

"Save the celebration for later, let's continue buying time for ourselves!!" the commander, Leon, said with urgency in his voice despite feeling quite glad that things happen according to his plan as well, the urgency coming from the fact that these Decadents are creatures with near endless terror to them, and while it is true that this horde is isolated from the main horde they are fighting against, reinforcement will always come fast for them in the forms of offsprings being produced by those massive mothership always hiding deep within the horde.

Hearing the words of their commander, the crew of the Hegemon starts going at their best, feeling immensely confident that despite them fighting practically just one on one against the largest Decadent horde that the Order has ever recorded, they will be able to at least escape, or better yet, triumph over it.

'Just like how the commander always does it…' all the people in the command room thought to themselves as they put their lives on this figure right in the middle of them in good faith, said figure still looking at the display in front of him with such scrutiny clearly trying to consider everything else so that not a single variable will happen in his command.

As time continues to go by, the people on the Hegemon start getting used to the brunt of attack once again, making them feel like even this massive horde is just similar to a normal day in the frontline, this shared thought increasing even more as an announcement covering the entire Universe Class Star Vessel.

"Main cannon one is in full power and ready to fire anytime, Commander, please give the target!!" another one manning the controls on the display screen said with a trace of obvious joy in her face, her words also bringing an even brighter hope on everyone else's face as they got the time to process the words, their hands already clasping each other as they felt like they are finally going to get away from this calamity.

Even the commander himself, who is clearly quite the cautious one, couldn't help but feel relief welling from the depths of his being as he heard the news, making him smile as he thought to himself of something as he started another series of commands once again.

'It's great… we get to fight with each other once again, my fair lady' he said as he held onto the Hegemon with a clear tone of closeness to the Star Vessel, perhaps due to the decades of bond between him and the massive space craft, decades filled with vicious, life-ending fights that he, along with most of his crew managed to survive from, an occurrence that can only be described as heaven defying odds.

"Route sixty percent of secondary reactor power to main engines, prepare the engines for Void Depth Dive, while maintaining full operational function of all offensive and defensive armaments!"

"Routing secondary reactor power to main engines, routing complete!"

"Preparing for Void Depth Dive, estimate load up time for the main engines fifteen seconds!"

"Routing all offensive and defensive armament power supply to the backup storage… back up storage level optimal, we can maintain full defense and offense capabilities for two minutes tops"

Hearing the words from his crew, the figure smiles as he feels relief as well as joy as he gets to live for another day, issuing the final order of the battle as he waves his hands once more.

"Prepare to rip a path through the horde of Decadent with the main cannon one before initiating Void Depth Dive."

"Yes!! Sir!!" The entirety of the command room felt great knowing that they would finally escape from this hellhole, something that they wouldn't wish even for their worst of enemies, all of them returning to their stations as they prepared to enter faster-than-light travel via the Void Depth Dive.

"Void Depth Dive ready anytime!!"

"Hard to starboard, steered away from the center of the Decadent horde…"

"Main cannon one, open fire!!"

As the last voice was heard, different from the two previous main cannons, this one is of a pure white beam that doesn't take even a single moment charging, immediately blasting everything in its path with far more power, range, and reach compared to the two other main cannons previously used by the Hegemon.

"Main cannon one discharged… no traces of Decadent activities within the ten thousand Astronomical Units range of the attack"

Hearing the words, the one manning the engine immediately did his job, informing everyone else on the Star Vessel of the entrance of their greatest weapon to Void Depth.

"Path clear, repeat, path clear! All personnel on board, prepare for Void Depth Dive in a few seconds!!" the young man on the post announced, urging the rest of the crew, whether they are inside or outside of the command room, to brace for that heavy feeling that everyone gets whenever entering Void Depth.

And within a few seconds, the massive, planet-sized space vessel disappears away from the reaches of the Decadent horde, diving right into the very depths of space.
