Plans, especially when it involved war, could be the deciding factor between a winner and a loser.
But , most likely than not , plans lost their importance in the heat of battles.
Back in his home world, and as a new recruit of strategy arm of the Allied Resistance Army,he was once told in passing by his immediate superior by his immediate superior that while plans were important to the cause of any war, they lost their worth, most often than not, In the heat of battle. At that time, being the young recruit that he was, he had given that particular superior a funny look while considering if there was something fundamentally wrong with that superior's thought process as what the superior said went directly against all his preconceived ideas about strategy.
That his mindset, and all his preconceived ideas about in-battlefield strategy, did not stand the test of time.
Over time, with him watching from the back lines, he had come to the same conclusion; one could not account for what would happen in the heat of battle and thus, could not actively plan towards it.
Many things happened in the thick of battle that could affect it's outcome, and many factors also made it unpredictable still. Since one could not account for the likely, minute by minute actions of the enemy, one could also not plan an effective situation by situation response .
Thus, rather than plan out an upcoming battle on a minute by minute, move by move basis, he like most experienced strategists did the opposite. They neglected planning for any battle up to the tune of about sixty percent, in favour of other factors that could really affect the battlefield; they ensured that soldiers were properly fed and we'll rested, that the troops were trained until their drills became an instinctual second nature, they made sure that the logistics department was in excellent condition, that they were no traitors and spies in their ranks , that the terrain in which the battle would take place was favourable to them, that dedication and effort was rewarded and shady, undesirable behaviours were punished, that the morale of their troops was always on the high side, that officers who were worth their salt, and who could make split second decisions that could affect the tides of any battle were put in the right positions, that they had enough information on the enemy as they could lay their hands on and that the weapons their troops wielded were up to date.
Ma'chil, even in this new world , had not let go of the knowledge the many bitter battle experienced had granted him . Thus, even with his terrible, newly acquired powers, he had planned his every move wisely and carefully. From the first time they felt the pull of fragments, to the extermination campaign which Zen, Niel and himself had carried out and which ended in the annihilation of the Socions tribe up until the, even to this battle against his current foe , he had poured over each of his steps meticulously.
That is why he never expected all his plans to go down the drain before the opening response of his target even after he had thoroughly studied it with his derived skill { the great eye}. Yes he was prepared to easily take down his target. What he was not prepared for was to fight almost a million birds of varying power just to get to it.
Thus, he made the most sensible decision he could, he was going to withdraw.
Then, as if to mock his decision, the emotionless voice that came and went as it pleased spoke
