Icarus had gotten up after about a week of being too sore to move, the dragons power even if it basically just grazed him was too much.
The dragons seemed to be clueless in terms of healing magic, the white Dragon Alazea being the only one able to cast basic healing magic.
Icarus had been instructed by some of the other dragons to head down to the second largest building in town, The school.
On the way he passed by Ingel, who he greeted but was merely met with a turn of his head and a grunt.
Icarus continued and found himself standing in front of another imposing building, there were Runic inscriptions on the outside, however he could not make out what they ment and they only emanated a slight magical aura as if they had been inscribed hundreds of not thousands of years ago.
He entered cautiously and was met with a surprised murmur.
Inside around ten dragons sat, 8 green and 2 red, Icarus supposed this was a Dragons version of a high school.
He shrugged off his memories of his previous life and entered.
At the head of the room, a dark midnight blue colored dragon stood, her scales, eyes and hair sharing this color.
She eyed him carefully and spoke "so it took a week, we will absolutely have to improve upon that, now sit down."
Icarus nodded and sat, the teacher turned to the others in the class and dismissed them, one of the red dragons smiled and patted Icarus on the shoulder with a mocking "thanks." Before leaving
The teacher turned back "now let's discuss, you were not totally useless, your first attack was almost enough, perhaps another element at the same level would be enough to damage him, however fire won't cut it."
Icarus nodded, he had expected as much, though not having preparation he had only put most of his time into one element and decided it was better to use it instead of another.
The teacher began drawing a diagram with magic in the air.
"This is the types of elements, combinations of these are possible but they are basics and the foundation of magic, Fire, air, earth, water, light,Dark."
She breathed in and continued "light and dark are extremely hard to use, and usually require specific types of mana to cast, we will ignore these and only talk about the previous four."
"As you realized, fire and air compliment each other, this is true for all elements, even fire and water or air and earth, even though that seems unnatural, there are countless ways to use magic, and absolutely some that the dragon race has no idea of."
Icarus remembered that the dragon race were masters of sword, not magic, and nodded at her explanation.
"If you want a combination to beat him, I suggest using earth and wind or fire and water, fire magic is actually more 'temperature' if that makes sense, this was a realization I came to recently, so using it alongside water you can create ice rather then just steam, but doing so is extremely complicated."
"As for earth and wind, you can create spears of earth that will be propelled at your opponent, I don't think this would work as well as ice however."
Icarus was saddened by the news that fire would never work, however he was also interested in the fact that temperature magic was the true nature of fire magic, he wondered if this was the case for all elements meaning they were all more then they seemed.
"If there are no further questions I will move on to the next topic, and that is circulating mana through your body, we do this to practice for our swordsmanship here, but it will also help you recover."
Icarus' eyes widened 'isnt that just... A basic enhancement spell? Surely the dragons are not so far behind humans that that is where they are in magic right now..."
Class wrapped up after Icarus practiced mixing the elements on a smaller scale, he was dismissed and told to come back for at least a month before he challenged Ingel again.
.
.
.
3 months later.
Icarus has challenged Ingel 9 times, with constant mana circulation his speed of recovery has vastly improved, since the sixth attempt he has no longer been allowed a handicap at the start and has fought Ingel for around 30 seconds before being overwhelmed.
However he was still not impressed with the basic mana circulation, he decided this time he would shape it to his own Will.
All this time, he had been using earth and wind, as well as water and fire, I've was indeed the most effective against Ingel, however there was a resolution in Icarus' heart deep down that held him back.
Ingel stood across from him and his heart set ablaze, his mana circulation turned into white hot flames coursing through his arms, he summoned his staff to his hand and Abe gave the signal.
'Ingel, I will defeat you, with fire magic!'
He condensed the fire in an instant, he had practiced this spell non stop and could now perform it in split seconds, his buffing spell was also fire based, and multiplied his perception speed by a bout three times.
The wins and fire mixed, condensing in a ball only about the size of a coin.
It blasted outward, he still struggled to keep it condensed after he fired but the damage would be greatly increased of how could do so.
His teacher watched from the sidelines and Scowled "why is this stubborn kid using fire magic, I told him it's pointless and his other spells were beginning to work slightly more, he even scratched a scale off Ingel the last time!"
Ingel smiled "dumb bastard, why don't you learn your lesson an-"
Icarus looked annoyed, he had lost control just before contact and the spell had expanded to a fist size, it hit Ingel and knocked the wind out of him.
'what the.. if I wasnt covering my body with scales and mana to guard instinctually that might have done serious damage... That didn't feel like fire at all!'
Ingel began strafing to avoid the single shots, however when he tried to advance he was hit.
Icarus was obsessed with landing the spell on him, but due his movements he figured he would run out of mana before he actually hurt Ingel, he sighed and around him fist sized balls of white hot fire formed by the dozen.
Ingel was shocked "just what is this kids talent for fire magic?..'
Icarus had changed his spell, the wind was now the primary factor, so it was more of an impact based spell rather then burning, This meant fire resistance was not a problem, but due to his talent for fire magic he could channel the shape of the wind by using fire to make it sharper or more condensed.
He began firing, Ingel was caught in the arms and sides occasionally, sacrificing them to avoid being hit in a vital area, his scales began to wear the damage however, if even one of Icarus' coin sized spells hit him it would likely pierce his scales.
"Even still!" Ingel glowed and transformed into his half dragon form "When I get just a little serious, your no match!"
Icarus' teacher watched from the sides "he made him transform?! This can't be just fire magic can it?"
Icarus smiled and the dozens of small fires disappeared from around him forming one enormous fireball infront of his staff, it condensed to the size of his torso and heavy winds blew from behind.
Ingels dragon arm pulled back and was thrown forward, one devasting punch that would instantly crush Icarus.
Icarus smiled wider he condensed the fireball one final time, it's core was no wider then a coin and it's outer layer the size of a fist. He released the fireball as it changed from white hot heat into a shimmering magenta, it's temperature so high it took on a new form, hardly fit to merely be called 'fire'
His teacher fell to her knees in amazement.
The two collided with a massive flash, the fire ball stopped Ingels fist in it's tracks.
All were left wondering what had happened.
The world came back into view after the blinding magenta light.
Icarus lay on the ground, seemingly unconscious.
On the other side, Ingel stood, his eyes wide but his appearance fine.
Her eyes fell on his arm, a bloody path had been carved up it, he stared wide eyed at the human who had done this.
'Even if I was in my full transformation, if that hit me anywhere other then my arm...'
His teacher rushed over to him, she had realized what happened just moments ago.
He had burned through the scales with pure heat and impact, but to do so, increasing heat requires massive amounts of mana.
He had expended every last bit of mana in his reserves.
In mere moments he would be dead.
She knelt and began hurriedly transfusing mana, strangely she felt something unlike any other condition she had seen before.
From the depths of his consciousness, his mana was already recovering, but just to the point of stability.
'what could cause this?, if I could just look inside of him...'
She closed her eyes and tried to merge her consciousness with his, but felt like she was forcefully pushed back.
She opened her eyes and saw Icarus grabbing her hand firmly.
He wasn't awake, but he was unconsciously telling her not to do what she was attempting.
She sighed and stood up, she summoned two earth golems to carry Icarus away and looked back at Ingel.
"Go to Alazea, she can probably heal that arm, I'll try to keep him here for a while longer so he won't challenge you again for another few months."
Ingel bowed "yes, Deep blue queen, Maerguam."
She scoffed. "You know that title is worthless now."
The pair parted ways, leaving Abe alone at the side of the battle field.
'if I hadn't use
d mana dampening...'
He looked to the sky and saw a comet race across the stars.
'is witnessing a legend in person always this terrifying?'
