"I can't believe you lied." Soren said. He spoke out before Joel could say anything about Lucian's confession. Soren didn't know how to feel about Lucian's sudden truth. Lucian was a respected, strong figure who could never be put down in his eyes, but hearing Lucian say that he was weak and not as strong as everyone thought made Soren angry. Lucian had survived for so long even though he had just one person on his team, and that was something a weak person wasn't capable of. Soren wanted Lucian to acknowledge that. "We have been with you, fighting together for months, and you still didn't tell us the truth?!" Soren yelled, and Lucian turned his eyes away from him.
'If not for this beast, he would have continued in his lie.' Soren glared at Luna, who knew the truth and had followed Lucian in his scheme to deceive them. Soren paused and thought to himself, wondering if Lucian was at fault. Did he really deceive them? All he did was keep his secret away from them, and that was his right. Everyone had a secret they wanted no one to know. But knowing that he had been unable to gain Lucian's trust for so long after trying so hard to always impress him was depressing.
"I'm sure that you had your own reason for not wanting to trust us." Marta said she felt more sadness than anger for knowing that Lucian still hid the truth from them when Soren had questioned him about the brothers before they were captured. At that time Lucian had the chance to say the truth but still chose to remain quiet. Knowing that Luna was the only one among them who knew Lucian's secret made Marta feel jealous. "But even at that, you should have told us." She cried out.
Atlas gave out a loud laugh. "Human dramas are the worst, brother. They have no sense of loyalty for their own kind and fight during the worst time, without caring about their life being on the line."
'Who said that we have no sense of loyalty?!' Soren thought in anger. He hated more than anything seeing Lucian mocked and cast down by a rotten beast. In anger, he activated his system magic without knowing if it was going to work on both beasts.
Joel gave out an amusing smile, and before he knew what was happening, he felt himself being transported back to the A-rank prison he had escaped from with his brother; he was back to being a mindless beast that was under the palm of the dungeon king, who was waiting to punish him and his brother for breaking the rules.
"It works." Soren said out in surprise; he was only giving his magic a reckless try and didn't expect it to actually work because it has never worked on beasts before.
"What's wrong with them?" Lucian asked as he freed himself from the vein that bound him.
The Achiloq brothers had fallen on the floor; their bodies moved like helpless worms while they screamed in fear.
"This is Soren's nightmare system." Luna said she distanced herself from Soren, creeped out by the sudden dark aura that enveloped him.
"I don't approve of what you did, Captain, but I'm not going to let this beast who dared laugh at you get away with it." Soren aimed his sword at Atlas and tried cutting his heart, but Atlas's strong skin shattered his blade.
"You still want me to be your captain?" Lucian asked doubtfully, and Soren nodded. At this moment, he then remembered that he once had a beast ability to read minds at the beginning of the game, but it had been so long, and he had other strong abilities that had gotten to the ability limit that Zyros spoke of, and when he was fighting the dungeon king, his attempt to use that ability didn't work. It only gave him a headache; it could be that the ability was completely gone, or maybe it was still there.
Lucian gave his ability a try with Soren, and to his surprise, it still works. Soren's loyalty to him was real, but above that, Lucian was starting to realize something about himself that he had overlooked: his ability was more than the count of what Zyros said that he was going to have, and his abilities were still working.
'Does this mean that I can still steal more abilities?' Lucian thought excitedly.
"Same goes for me." Marta said and tried helping Soren to kill the beast on the ground, but her sword was easily broken. "Maybe I should just bury them alive." She was annoyed.
'There are S-rank beasts; I don't think a simple death is something that can make them stay down.' Lucian thought. He examined Soren and saw that Soren was trying hard to keep his ability active. This was Lucian's first time seeing Soren's ability in action; he had only heard of it, and now he was impressed.
"Can't you leave your ability active even from a long distance?" Lucian asks.
"Yes, but they are too strong; they are both trying to break free, so this won't last for long." Soren was frustrated that his weapon couldn't kill the beast.
"Let's run then." Lucian and Luna both said at the same time.
Marta narrowed her eyes at Luna.
"What was their nightmares about?" Luna asked Soren, curious about what ugly beast like the Achiloq brothers could be so scared of. She was sure that their nightmares couldn't be of humans.
Lucian and his team where far away from the Achiloq brothers, they were still journeying in the forest. Lucian had use the stain of a different beast blood to cover his scent. His teammates followed suit so that they won't be captured again.
"Their nightmares was mostly about the dungeon king, I guess humans aren't the only ones afraid of that demon." Soren shrugs. He didn't care about the dungeon king as long as he never ends up meeting the dungeon king again. "Other than that, they were both afraid of loosing power and turning into mindless beasts." He hide the fact that in their nightmares, in their mindless form, they were eaten up by the brother Lucian had killed.
