Chapter 30 - Chapter 30 — Shadows in the Duel

The training ground was bathed in the soft afternoon light, the air filled with the subtle scent of grass and earth. Tang San stood ready, his calm eyes fixed on Ayan, who lounged casually with a confident smirk.

"Ready to see what my new skill can do?" Ayan called out, flicking a sealing talisman between his fingers.

Tang San nodded, tightening his grip on the Blue Silver Grass hidden beneath his sleeve. "Show me."

Without warning, Ayan stepped forward and tossed the talisman onto the ground between them. The paper flared briefly, then vanished, leaving a dark, shimmering patch on the grass.

As Tang San advanced, his shadow crossed into the marked area—and immediately, tendrils of shadow burst forth, wrapping tightly around his legs. His movements slowed drastically as the shadow chains coiled, restricting his steps and sapping his agility.

Ayan's voice was calm, almost teasing. "Step into my Shadow Bind, and your own shadow turns traitor. How's that for betrayal?"

Tang San gritted his teeth, struggling against the invisible bindings. He tried to strike, but his slowed reflexes left him vulnerable. Ayan closed in with a swift but controlled strike, just grazing Tang San's shoulder.

"Not bad," Tang San admitted, breaking free by focusing his spirit energy to sever the bonds.

Ayan smirked wider, stepping back. "See? It's not about raw power. It's about control. Trap your opponent, then strike."

Tang San smiled, eyes bright with respect. "I'll have to be careful not to fall into those shadows."

They circled each other again, the friendly duel continuing as afternoon waned, both testing and learning from each other's strengths.
